Chapter 173: Husband, Let’s Fall in Love

After finishing the necessary procedures, Li Zian returned home. It was already past 4 a.m.

He took a shower and changed his clothes. Then he stood by the window, looking at the River Embankment.

The River Embankment was empty. There was not a single person in sight.

During the fight last night, he had thought Gushi Dayueer would show up. But she did not.

He had believed Gushi Dayueer was on his side. Now he was not so sure about that.

The fight last night was truly dangerous. If he had been even slightly careless, he could have died there. If Gushi Dayueer was really on his side, someone as powerful as her would have intervened. Those Western gunmen would not have escaped. Yet, she did not come.

“You warned me to be careful, but then you left me alone. What did you mean by that?” Li Zian could not figure it out.

After staring blankly for a while, Li Zian left the bedroom. It was too late to sleep and too early to make breakfast. He went upstairs and arrived at Yu Meilin’s door.

The bedroom door was closed but not locked. Li Zian grabbed the doorknob, opened the door, and walked in.

The bedroom smelled fragrant. The scent had a slightly enchanting quality.

Li Zian turned on the light and tiptoed to the bed.

Yu Meilin was sleeping soundly, breathing evenly.

Li Zian walked to the bed and sat on the edge. He reached out and placed his hand on her neck.

Zhenqi went out and returned, bringing back information about the inside of her body.

The Great Sluggish Cauldron awakened. Green smoke rose from it.

It was like a computer’s CPU. It quickly analyzed and processed the information brought back by the Zhenqi.

Li Zian had only lightly pricked her butt with the Alloy Barb. The amount of Movement-Halting Ointment used was very small. Now there was no trace of the drug left in her body. She was just in a natural, deep sleep.

Li Zian withdrew his hand. He felt relieved since she was fine.

His gaze fell on Yu Meilin’s face. Her face was exquisitely beautiful, with long eyelashes. Even with her eyes closed, she gave off a lively impression. It made one imagine how beautiful her eyes would be when she opened them.

Li Zian sighed softly in his heart and called out quietly, “Meilin.”

His voice was so soft that even he could hardly hear it, let alone someone in deep sleep.

Of course, Yu Meilin did not react.

No reaction was expected.

Li Zian muttered again, “I need to tell you something.”

He watched Yu Meilin’s face nervously, afraid that her eyes would suddenly open and she would ask, “What is it?”

Yu Meilin still did not react.

Li Zian felt a bit more at ease and mumbled, “Me and Chuntao…”

Yu Meilin’s eyelashes fluttered. Suddenly, she kicked the blanket off.

A pair of long legs were exposed.

Their color rivaled frost and snow. Their quality was like chilled jade and icy skin.

The white nightgown had neglected its duty, revealing what was underneath.

The Camel’s Foot Arch appeared again.

The oasis in the desert exuded a mysterious aura. That Camel’s Foot Arch stepped on the green grass, bending the blades and leaving imprints.

Li Zian felt troubled. He really didn’t know if this was his luck or the consequence of his Divination. In one night, he had seen two Camels.

Yu Meilin turned over, presenting her Full Moon to Li Zian.

Li Zian gave a bitter smile. “You’re a grown woman, yet you kick off the blanket. Aren’t you ashamed?”

Again, only he could hear these words.

He reached out, pulled the blanket over, and covered her again.

Earlier, he had wanted to confess his feelings to her while she slept, seeking psychological relief. But after her kick, he couldn’t bring himself to say anything. He was also worried she might wake up. After covering her with the blanket, he quickly prepared to slip away.

Unexpectedly, after just two steps, a sound came from behind him. “Mmm.”

Li Zian turned his head in a panic to look. Yu Meilin’s eyes were still closed; she had not woken up. He sighed inwardly with relief and quietly headed for the door.

Suddenly, another sound came from behind, carrying a hint of reproach. “You really are something, passing by the door three times without coming in.”

Li Zian: “…”

His feet froze.

His mind raced.

Perhaps she had woken up when he opened the door.

Or when he turned on the light.

Or when he covered her with the blanket.

Or when he was muttering to himself…

But that wasn’t the point. The point was, she was awake.

Yu Meilin sat up in bed. She brushed aside the French bangs on her forehead, a slight smile on her lips. “How did I get into bed?”

There was no escaping now.

Li Zian turned back, wearing a smile. “Last night, you fell asleep while we were talking. I carried you to bed.”

“I’m just glad you’re back. I was so worried about you. Are you hurt?” Yu Meilin’s eyes were full of concern.

Li Zian was slightly taken aback. She was a smart woman; she must have guessed what happened. If he denied it or made up a story, it would be pointless.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Officer Liu has taken over. That trouble is gone,” Li Zian said.

“Come here, let me see.” Yu Meilin beckoned to Li Zian.

Li Zian walked over.

“Sit down.” Yu Meilin reached out, took Li Zian’s hand, and pulled him toward the bed.

Li Zian sat down, feeling a little nervous.

There was still some time before breakfast. What if Yu Meilin wanted to collect his “homework”? Should he hand it in or not?

Even though Mu Chuntao had encouraged him to do so, he still had some reservations.

It had taken him four years to form this knot in his heart. Could it be undone so easily?

“You said you weren’t hurt, but look, there are scratches all over your arm.” Yu Meilin saw the marks on Li Zian’s arm. They were from branches and thorns while he was fleeing through the woods—just superficial wounds, but she still felt heartache.

“It’s nothing, just scratches from branches,” Li Zian said.

“Are you hurt anywhere else?”

“No.”

“I don’t believe you. I want to see.” Yu Meilin reached out to lift Li Zian’s T-shirt.

Li Zian did not stop her. He let her hand grab his T-shirt and pull it up.

His eight-pack abs were exposed, followed by his firm pectoral muscles. Under the light, they gleamed with a wheat-like hue.

They looked good. They were sexy.

Honestly, it was a waste for him to wear clothes. If he didn’t, he could really be handsomeness itself, unmatched and unchallenged.

Yu Meilin’s gaze lingered for a moment.

Appreciating beauty is human nature, and women are no exception. If a woman saw Li Zian’s physique and had no reaction, she must be blind.

There were no injuries on his body.

Yu Meilin still held his T-shirt and lifted it upwards, stopping only when it got caught under his armpits. If he raised his arms, she might even take the T-shirt off entirely.

In that case, the nature of checking his injury would change.

The next step would probably be reading “The Return of the Condor Heroes.”

Luckily, Yu Meilin did not ask him to raise his hands. She leaned in to look at Li Zian’s back, then pulled his T-shirt back down.

Li Zian secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Yu Meilin looked at Li Zian, her eyes full of worry. “Don’t do dangerous things anymore, okay?”

Li Zian nodded and looked at her, but soon his gaze fell away, shifting to the patterns on the quilt.

He felt guilty inside.

She hadn’t given him a “green hat,” but he had given her a bright green one.

Last night, she tried to stop him because she was worried about him and didn’t want him to take risks, yet he had used Movement-Halting Ointment to make her pass out.

“Just now, when I was half-asleep, I thought I heard you saying something. What did you say?” Yu Meilin asked.

“I’m having an affair with Mu Chuntao.”

That was what he wanted to say earlier, but only on the condition that she was asleep and couldn’t hear. Now, with her staring right at him, there was no way he could say it.

“Uh, I said, how come someone as grown-up as you still kicks the covers off when sleeping?” Li Zian said.

Yu Meilin covered her mouth and laughed.

Li Zian quietly thought about finding an excuse to leave.

Yu Meilin placed her right hand over his right hand, their fingers overlapping, and the two Wedding Rings aligned. She looked at them and said, “Zian, I know there’s a knot in your heart.”

Li Zian was slightly taken aback; he was surprised by her words.

Yu Meilin spoke softly, “I might have been a bit rushed these past few days, and you’re not mentally prepared yet. I should give you some time to get used to me and accept me. We…”

She lifted her head and looked at Li Zian.

Li Zian looked back at her, wondering what she was going to say.

Yu Meilin smiled. “We can actually start dating again.”

“Huh?” Li Zian was stunned; he never expected Yu Meilin to say that.

Their child was already three years old, and now they were supposed to start dating?

“When we got married, we didn’t have a foundation of feelings. Over the past four years, we haven’t been together, but I believe we can become a very happy couple. So, Husband, please date me.” Yu Meilin spoke what was in her heart, and a faint blush rose on her fair cheeks.

This was the first time Li Zian had heard Yu Meilin call him Husband, and it felt a bit surreal.

“What do you think, is that okay?”

Li Zian nodded, but then felt something wasn’t quite right, so he added, “We’re already married, and our child is three years old. Can we still date?”

“Some couples can still date even when they’re old and gray. Why can’t we?”

“That’s true. Love doesn’t care about nationality or age.” Li Zian said, though he wasn’t sure where he had picked up that phrase.

“So, shall we try now?” Yu Meilin looked at him with hopeful eyes.

“How do we try?”

“Aiyo, you’re so silly. You don’t even know how to date.” Yu Meilin gave him a charming, teasing glare. “Don’t you know how to hug me?”

Li Zian froze slightly.

He had never seen the Empress act coquettish before; this was the first time, and he felt a little stirred inside.

So, married couples really could date.

“Is it that you don’t know how, or you don’t want to hug me?” Yu Meilin’s voice carried a hint of sadness.

Li Zian smiled and opened his arms to hug her.

It wasn’t that he didn’t know how; Taozi had taught him many dating tricks. But he had to pretend he didn’t know, or else if Yu Meilin asked him where he learned, how would he answer?

“This is the first time you’ve hugged me in so many years.”

“I hugged you last night too, and even carried you to bed.” Li Zian corrected her.

Yu Meilin reached out and pinched Li Zian. “How dare you bring that up? How did you make me pass out?”

“You fainted on your own; I didn’t do anything to you.” Li Zian would never admit it.

“Just now when I woke up, I thought you…”

“Thought I what?”

“Thought you had gotten revenge for what happened four years ago.”

Li Zian: “…”

Four years ago, she had driven drunk with him; four years later, last night, he had drugged her and then driven under the influence. It seemed like Heavenly Dao’s Reincarnation—a payback for a payback—but revenge wasn’t supposed to be like that, was it? That kind of revenge had no soul.

“Husband, can I rest my head on your lap for a while?” Yu Meilin’s voice was soft and gentle.

“Mm.” Li Zian responded quietly.

Yu Meilin lay down, resting her head on Li Zian’s lap, and closed her eyes.

Li Zian looked at her quietly; strangely, his heart felt very calm.

As if this was how things were meant to be.

Yu Meilin suddenly turned over, facing him.

Warm breaths washed over him.

The Master’s heart could no longer stay calm.

Didn’t she know where her nostrils were aimed?

Like the flute in an Indian magician’s hands, with one blow, the snake in the cage would raise its head and stand up. Weren’t you afraid it might suddenly bite you?

They had agreed to date first.

But this kind of dating seemed way too fast!

What girl, the first time she rests her head on her boyfriend’s lap, blows a magic flute and breathes Immortal Aura?
