Chapter 11: Flirty Chat

There were no roosters crowing in the city, but Li Zian had already developed a biological clock. He woke up at 5 a.m.

His body was still sweaty, but the sweat no longer contained many impurities, and the smell was very faint. Sleeping was actually cultivation of the Great Slumber Qi Refining Art. Since he worked so hard, his condition was certainly getting better and better.

Li Zian thought it was a bit early, so he practiced Branch-Breaking Boxing in the bedroom for a while before taking a shower. Then he went to the Kitchen to make breakfast.

Yu Meilin was clearly not the type of woman who cooked at home. The ingredients in the fridge were pitifully few. So he made some congee and boiled eggs, then stir-fried a plate of shredded potatoes and a plate of fried peanuts.

After he brought the food to the dining table, his Mobile Phone beeped with a WeChat notification. It beeped several times in a row.

He took out his Mobile Phone to check the messages. There were four transfers from “King Kong Lolita,” each for fifty thousand yuan.

Mu Chuntao’s WeChat name was “King Kong Lolita,” which actually matched her image of having abdominal muscles.

Li Zian felt puzzled and replied: Why did you transfer so much money to me?

Mu Chuntao’s message quickly came again: This is the red envelope from Brother Fan. He said it’s not good to disturb you so early in the morning, so he just sent a red envelope as a gesture. He will thank you properly later.

Li Zian froze on the spot.

Over the past few years, he had saved a bit of money, only around five thousand yuan. But this was two hundred thousand! A farmer in Crescent Moon Village couldn’t save that much money in a lifetime, yet for them, it was just a casual gesture.

Li Zian was stunned for a moment, then replied: How can I accept this?

Mu Chuntao sent a smiling emoji and a message: It’s not much, just take it. Otherwise, I’ll use it to buy a bag and tell Yu Meilin that you gave it to me.

Li Zian was really worried about this. With Mu Chuntao’s personality—daring enough to jump from the sky—what wouldn’t she dare to do?

He accepted the four transfers and replied: Thank you.

Mu Chuntao sent a laughing-crying emoji and another message: It wasn’t from me, why are you thanking me?

Li Zian thought for a moment and replied: I’ll treat you to a meal later.

Mu Chuntao immediately replied: You said it! I want to eat something delicious.

Li Zian sent her a smiling emoji.

Mu Chuntao sent another message: Has Yu Meilin gotten up? Does she know you were at my place last night?

Just as Li Zian finished reading this message, he heard footsteps from the staircase. He hurriedly stuffed his Mobile Phone into his pocket.

Yu Meilin came down the stairs. She was wearing professional attire, her makeup was exquisite, and her expression was serious. Her aura was like that of an imperial concubine from a TV drama.

When he first heard the footsteps, Li Zian felt a bit guilty and nervous. But when he saw Yu Meilin, he suddenly found his previous reaction a bit funny. He thought to himself: “I was helping someone with their illness and solving a problem. Mu Chuntao and I are completely innocent. Why should I be nervous and guilty? Besides, even if she knew I went to Mu Chuntao’s place last night, she probably wouldn’t care, right?”

Yu Meilin entered the dining room, glanced at the breakfast on the table, and without saying a word, picked up a bowl and started serving congee.

Li Zian said: “There were only these things in the fridge, so we’ll have to make do today. I’ll go to the supermarket later to buy some groceries.”

Yu Meilin placed the bowl of congee in front of Li Zian and said lightly: “I usually just buy some soy milk and steamed buns from the street. This is already very good.”

Li Zian looked at the congee in front of him and suddenly had the illusion that his status in the family had improved.

Yu Meilin added: “Eat. After breakfast, go change into formal clothes and come with me to the company.”

Li Zian asked curiously: “Why do I need to go to the company?”

“I originally planned to let you adjust first before meeting my dad, but he called this morning and said he wants to see you.”

“I can go with you to the company, but who will take care of Xiaomei?”

Yu Meilin took a sip of congee: “Xiaomei has a Home Tutor who will come today. Grandma is also at home, so you don’t need to worry about her.”

“What kind of Home Tutor is it? Male or female?” Li Zian asked.

“She’s a female college student named Tang Qing. She started last year, and now she’s graduated but hasn’t found a good job, so I asked her to continue being Xiaomei’s Home Tutor. You don’t need to worry about her; she’s a good person.” After a pause, Yu Meilin added, “I know you care about Xiaomei, but I’ve been raising her for the past three years. Hasn’t she been fine?”

Li Zian smiled wryly: “Didn’t I only find out yesterday that I have a daughter?”

Yu Meilin lowered her head and continued drinking her congee.

The conversation reached a dead end here.

After breakfast, Li Zian went back to his room to change clothes. He originally didn’t want to change, but he thought since it was his first time meeting his Father-in-Law, he shouldn’t let Yu Meilin down. So he changed into a black suit.

It had to be said that Yu Meilin was very good at choosing clothes. The suit perfectly outlined his body lines—straight posture, long legs, broad shoulders, and a narrow waist. Combined with his strikingly handsome face, he gave off a bright and sunny vibe. His overall image improved greatly.

Crescent Moon Village’s Wu Yanzu—this was truly based on ability.

But, how do you tie this tie?

Li Zian held the tie and suddenly remembered that this was his first time wearing a suit, and wearing a suit required tying a tie.

Knock, knock.

There was a knock on the door. Before Li Zian could open it, Yu Meilin pushed the door and entered.

“I thought you probably haven’t tied a tie before, so I came to help you,” Yu Meilin said.

Li Zian felt a bit embarrassed: “It really is my first time.”

That “first time” had been taken by her in a blur. Now, the first time tying a tie was also going to be handed over to her. Perhaps he owed her from a past life?

Yu Meilin took the tie and stood in front of Li Zian. She lifted the collar of his white shirt and wrapped the tie underneath it.

They were almost face to face. Her breath brushed against Li Zian’s face, carrying a faint, fresh fragrance that was so pleasant. Her movements were gentle too, her fingertips seemed to carry an electric current. Wherever they touched, his skin felt numb and tingly.

Li Zian’s mind became a bit flustered. He even felt an impulse to just hug her.

But in the end, he didn’t do it.

“Alright, see if there’s anything that needs adjusting,” Yu Meilin said as she stepped back.

Li Zian finally snapped out of it. He glanced at himself in the full-length mirror and showed a slight smile: “Very good.”

“Then let’s go. My dad is very punctual; he doesn’t like people being late,” Yu Meilin said, then turned and left.

Such Peerless Beauty—in her eyes, it seemed like he was just a vase at home, not worth an extra glance.

Li Zian followed Yu Meilin out. Just as they stepped out, the door next door also opened.

Mu Chuntao walked out carrying a bag. Her big, bright eyes looked over, and a smile appeared on her face the next second: “Good morning, Sister Meilin.”

Yu Meilin nodded: “Morning. Where are you off to so early?”

“I have some business to take care of outside,” Mu Chuntao said, her gaze shifting to Li Zian’s face.

Li Zian smiled in greeting.

Yu Meilin seemed to remember something and said: “Chuntao, let me introduce you. This is my Husband, Li Zian. Husband, this is my good friend Mu Chuntao.”

Mu Chuntao walked over and extended a hand to Li Zian, smiling as she said: “Hello, Mr. Li.”

Pretending not to know?

Li Zian was slightly taken aback, but he still reached out and shook her hand: “Hello.”

Since she was pretending it was their first meeting, it would be very inappropriate if he insisted on explaining.

“I never expected, Sister Meilin, that your Husband would be so handsome,” Mu Chuntao said, staring at Li Zian with a smile.

Yu Meilin just gave a faint smile. Apart from being good-looking, she really couldn’t think of any other merits Li Zian had.

The three of them entered the Elevator. Yu Meilin and Mu Chuntao chatted casually about cosmetics and bags. Li Zian stood between the two women, unable to join the conversation, feeling particularly bored.

When they reached the underground parking garage, Kun Li, who had been waiting beside a Bentley car, reached out and opened the rear door.

She seemed to be not just Yu Meilin’s Assistant, but also a part-time bodyguard and driver.

“Good morning, Assistant Kun,” Mu Chuntao greeted Kun Li.

Kun Li nodded: “Good morning, Miss Mu.”

Mu Chuntao walked over to a Ferrari Sports Car. The scissor door slowly rose. Before getting in, she glanced over at Li Zian again.

Li Zian felt puzzled: “Why does she keep looking at me like that? Her gaze… I think I’ve seen it in some videos before…”

Those kinds of videos were all in Japanese.

“Get in the car,” Yu Meilin said.

“Okay,” Li Zian responded and got into the back seat of the Bentley car.

Yu Meilin also got in. She placed her hand on the leather armrest between the rear seats. Her fingers were slender like scallions, and her skin was as white as jade.

Li Zian looked at her hand.

It was really beautiful.

But he knew that what stood between him and that hand wasn’t just an armrest, but a huge iceberg.

Kun Li drove out of the underground garage, onto the road, and headed toward the Dajiang Group building.

“Meilin, I have a bad feeling,” Kun Li broke the silence in the car during the drive. “I received news that Gao Shengmei is also at the company. Also, your dad notified the other board members.”

Yu Meilin was silent for a moment before speaking: “What must come will come. Four years ago, when I took over Dajiang Group from my dad, I expected this day would arrive.”

“Also…” Kun Li glanced at Li Zian in the rearview mirror, hesitating to continue.

“What else? There are no outsiders here. Say what you want to say,” Yu Meilin said.

“Why are you bringing him along?” Kun Li said.

“My dad wants to see him,” Yu Meilin said.

The two women kept referring to him as “him,” as if they were talking about some stranger.

Li Zian felt a bit uncomfortable, but he still said: “From what you’re saying, it seems like you’re facing some trouble. Is there any way I can help?”

Yu Meilin glanced at Li Zian and said lightly: “You can’t help with my matters. My dad wants to see you; just meet with him.”

Li Zian didn’t think so.

His Father-in-Law practically sat up from his deathbed, and the only thing he wanted to do was see him.

This probably wouldn’t be a happy family reunion, would it?

A sense of crisis quietly emerged.

Li Zian closed his eyes. He used his left hand as paper and his right index finger as a pen, casually drawing.

After a minute, he frowned.
