Chapter 106: Unable to Take a Bite
Chapter 106: Unable to Take a Bite
Yu Taishan sat down angrily. If it weren’t for considering the business dealings with the Lin family, he would have turned around and left right away. Staying here, he wasn’t eating a meal—he was swallowing his anger! Seeing that young man in white sitting at that table, chatting and laughing with several big shots, made him furious. He wished he could rush over and slap that guy across the face.
Yu Jiahao’s face was dark, and his gaze was frightening. He must have been thinking something, but no one knew what was on his mind.
As for Xie Jianfei, his eyes were fixed only on Yu Meilin and Li Zian. Strangely, he even felt as if he had been cheated on. But no matter what, he couldn’t remove that feeling, and it seemed to taint his entire head green.
Gao Shengmei spoke in a mocking tone, “When did that freeloader get to know President Du? What is he chatting about with that Ma Huayun? He doesn’t even feel embarrassed. Does he even share common topics with them? Clearly, they aren’t on the same level.”
“You’ve said enough!” Yu Taishan snapped at her.
Gao Shengmei was taken aback for a moment, then retorted, “Why are you yelling at me? I didn’t make you angry. If you’re mad, go take it out on that guy!”
Yu Taishan’s face felt burning hot again.
Today, they had truly lost all face, leaving them utterly humiliated.
Yu Jiahao’s face grew even darker, as if you could squeeze out a sickly green liquid with just a slight twist.
The happier Li Zian seemed over there, the more Yu Jiahao suffered. Especially when he saw Li Zian laughing and chatting with Ma Huayun, it felt as disgusting as eating a piece of feces while enjoying a plate of fatty intestines.
Yes, a freeloader who came from the mountains—how could he sit at the same table as Ma Huayun? And Du Zhishan was even fawning over him, acting so humble. With that sycophantic look, if Li Zian hadn’t married Yu Meilin, Du Zhishan might even have married Du Linlin to that freeloader!
The more he thought about it, the angrier he became.
And just at that moment, Li Zian deliberately glanced over, looking right at him.
When Yu Jiahao saw the faint smile on Li Zian’s lips and his calm eyes, the moment their eyes met, it felt like Li Zian had slapped him hard across the face.
You call me a freeloader, say I have a thick face and know how to flatter, but here I am, eating at the same table as Ma Huayun and Du Zhishan, while you can only sit there and watch longingly. The connections you dream of getting, I can easily obtain without even trying—and I don’t even care about them!
However, all of this was just Yu Jiahao’s own interpretation. In reality, Li Zian had simply shifted his gaze over and looked at him once.
“Mr. Li, I heard from Brother Du that you are a true Master. Could you read my fortune?” Ma Huayun looked at Li Zian with an eager expression.
Li Zian said calmly, “I already took a look at you when you arrived, Mr. Ma.”
“Please go on,” Ma Huayun said, looking quite curious.
Li Zian said, “Mr. Ma, when you look at yourself in the mirror, how do you view your own face?”
Ma Huayun was puzzled but didn’t mention how he saw his own face. He just looked at Li Zian curiously. In truth, some people had told him he had an unusual appearance, while others called him ugly. He had read all the online content about his fortune, but he didn’t find anything particularly remarkable.
Yu Meilin, however, felt a bit nervous, worried that Li Zian wouldn’t read or interpret it well.
Li Zian didn’t actually need an answer from Ma Huayun. He continued in a calm tone, “Mr. Ma, your face and head look like a tripod. You have a destiny to rule the business world—why do you need your fortune read?”
Ma Huayun was slightly taken aback, then laughed out loud. “Haha! I never thought of it that way, but now that you mention it, I do see a resemblance!”
Du Linlin leaned closer to Ma Huayun, looked carefully, and said with a smile, “Oh, it really does look like one! I’ve never heard anyone say that before. No wonder Uncle Ma is so impressive—it turns out he was born to rule the business world!”
Du Zhishan said, “Brother Ma, just yesterday I was still lying in bed. Today, Zian treated me, and now I don’t even need a cane. I feel light on my feet! Zian is a true Master, not like those fake ones who pretend to have special powers. You should really get to know him.”
Du Linlin added, “Uncle Ma, Brother Zian is even more amazing at divination. When my dad was critically ill, he even made a will, saying he wanted to go back to his hometown to arrange his funeral. But Brother Zian just performed a divination for me and even knew exactly what my dad had said.”
The father and daughter took turns praising Li Zian, lifting him up to the skies.
A faint smile appeared on Yu Meilin’s lips. Ever since coming out of the mountains, Li Zian had never let her down. Now, he was even making her proud.
Ma Huayun said excitedly, “Mr. Li, how about performing a divination for me?”
But Li Zian shook his head and said calmly, “Mr. Ma, one should not seek divination without a reason. Even ancient rulers only performed divinations for major events—like launching military campaigns or praying for rain during droughts. They did it because they had a need. You have already achieved the pinnacle in the business world. You have a virtuous wife and filial children. For ten generations to come, your family will never want for food or clothing. Wherever you go, you can command the wind and rain. If you seek divination, tell me—what are you seeking?”
A smile appeared on Ma Huayun’s face. “Mr. Li, you make a good point. One should not seek divination without a reason. Could I have your contact information? If I ever have a matter in the future, I will come to you for a divination.”
Li Zian took a business card from his pocket for the Worry-Relieving Studio and handed it to Ma Huayun with both hands.
Ma Huayun also received it with both hands, showing proper respect.
Du Zhishan said with a laugh, “Don’t just focus on talking. Let’s all have a drink together.”
Du Linlin immediately took the wine glass from in front of him and replaced it with a cup of tea, while scolding him, “You just got better and you want to drink? Don’t you care about your health?”
Du Zhishan looked a bit embarrassed but gave in. “Well, then… I’ll use tea instead of wine to toast all the guests. Thank you all for your kindness. I, Du, will remember your friendship.”
He stood up.
Everyone in the room stood up and raised their glasses from a distance.
…
The Bentley car drove along the road. Outside the window, the sky was blue with white clouds, and the city’s scenery was beautiful.
Yu Meilin’s mood was also beautiful, but it had nothing to do with the scenery—it was all because of Li Zian sitting in the passenger seat.
“Zian, do you think Ma Huayun will ask you to perform a divination?” Yu Meilin broke the silence in the car.
Li Zian said, “Probably not.”
Yu Meilin asked in surprise, “Why not?”
Li Zian replied calmly, “Didn’t I say during the dinner? For ten generations to come, his family will never want for food or clothing. Wherever he goes, he can command the wind and rain. He lacks nothing, and he’s healthy. He has no reason to seek my help.”
“What you said makes sense. Someone at his level has nothing left to pursue. The troubles and difficulties ordinary people face, he doesn’t have them. But…”
“But what?”
“He took your business card. I think he might still contact you?” Yu Meilin said.
“I think he was just being polite. After all, Du Zhishan wanted him to be friends with me. He couldn’t really refuse,” Li Zian said.
“That’s true. If I had known, I should have reminded you to ask for his phone number. Even if he doesn’t contact you, we could contact him,” Yu Meilin said.
“Even if you had reminded me, I wouldn’t have asked for it.”
Yu Meilin was surprised. “That’s Ma Huayun! Didn’t you see Yu Jiahao running over like a dog, trying to take a photo with him? Just having a photo with Mr. Ma hanging in the office would make business much easier. You had a chance to ask for his number, and you didn’t want it?”
Li Zian smiled faintly. “He is Ma Huayun, and I am Li Zian. He is a king in the business world, and I am a Master. Have you ever seen a Master actively ask someone for their phone number?”
Yu Meilin was stunned for a moment, then she laughed. “You’re right. You are a Master—your dignity can’t be compromised. There are many people in this world who have achieved what Ma Huayun has, but there is only one Master like you. His achievements can be replicated, but your abilities cannot be copied by anyone else.”
Li Zian looked at her, a bit dazed.
If he remembered correctly, this was the first time Yu Meilin had praised him like this.
“Why are you looking at me?” Yu Meilin glanced at him and then looked away. She still had to drive—Masters don’t drive.
Li Zian smiled. “If I remember correctly, we’ve been married for over four years, and this is the first time you’ve praised me like this. It feels…”
“What does it feel like?” Yu Meilin glanced at Li Zian again.
Li Zian felt strange, but he couldn’t say that.
“Um, a bit flattered,” he said. For some reason, he thought of Mu Chuntao again.
A sweet smile appeared on Yu Meilin’s face. “Then I’ll praise you more often in the future.”
Li Zian smiled back at her, but inside, he sighed.
What took you so long?
“I want to go to the company to check on things. Although Kun Li can handle tasks, her abilities are limited. I’m a bit worried. Why don’t you come with me to the company? Tang Qing is taking care of things at home, so there’s nothing for you to do if you go back,” Yu Meilin said.
Li Zian said, “I want to go home to see Xiaomei, and I also want to have a good chat with Teacher Xiao Tang. Even if she’s going back to her hometown to get married, she has worked at our house for several years and has developed a bond with Xiaomei. We should at least prepare a generous gift for her.”
“You’re right. Then I’ll take you home first and then go to the company,” Yu Meilin said.
Li Zian originally wanted to say he could take a taxi back, but he felt it might be inappropriate, so he just nodded. Yet, he felt a bit puzzled—since when had Yu Meilin become so agreeable?
The Bentley car arrived at Gaochen Yipin. Yu Meilin stopped the car by the entrance. Li Zian opened the door to get out, but Yu Meilin suddenly reached over and grabbed his hand.
Li Zian froze immediately, staring straight at Yu Meilin, feeling a bit panicked inside.
Before and after his relationship with Mu Chuntao, he had always felt guilty toward Yu Meilin and Li Xiaomei. But now, with Yu Meilin holding his hand, he actually felt a bit guilty toward Mu Chuntao.
This feeling came without warning, and it was strangely unsettling.
But at that moment, Yu Meilin closed her eyes and tilted her chin upward slightly.
Li Zian was both surprised and confused.
Does she want me to kiss her?
Holding his hand so he couldn’t leave, closing her eyes, tilting her chin—if a female lead in a TV drama made these movements, the next scene would inevitably be a kissing scene. Unless some teacups or fruit plates were knocked over, the director wouldn’t call cut.
In the past, Li Zian would have been overjoyed and probably would have leaned in for a kiss already.
But now, not only did he not feel like it, he even felt a bit repelled. The guilt toward Mu Chuntao grew stronger.
“Um, I’m going up,” Li Zian said.
Yu Meilin let go of his hand and opened her eyes. Her heart was filled with disappointment.
“Drive safely,” Li Zian reminded her.
Yu Meilin nodded, and a smile appeared on her face. “Then I’ll be going.”
The Bentley car turned around, entered the traffic lane, and drove away.
Li Zian sighed.
Back when I wanted to have a married life with you, you said you weren’t ready.
Now, I’m not ready either.
Besides, it’s not like our cruise ship has no port to dock in.
