Chapter 15: Transformation Again
Chapter 15: Transformation Again
Su Yue’s matter was settled just like that.
After a blind person reaches adulthood and has full civil capacity, they can choose not to have a guardian.
As a legal and independent citizen, no one can force her.
With someone inside the local police station helping her get the ID card, it would be ready in no more than two days.
Given the situation at Su Yue’s aunt’s house, everyone unanimously decided that Su Yue should break free from her aunt’s control starting today. Although it was a bit against the rules, Lan Mu simply couldn’t let her go back.
Later, when the police told her aunt about this, the couple initially made a fuss and refused to accept it. But after all, they were at the local police station; what could they do even if they kept making a scene?
Finally, her aunt angrily cursed, “Ungrateful wretch! We raised you for over ten years for nothing.”
“Fine, leave then! It’s none of my business even if you starve to death!”
Lan Mu watched the couple curse and leave, shaking his head uncontrollably. They were simply too beastly; he had never seen relatives like that.
Next, Lan Mu registered some information, but his studio wasn’t officially set up yet. Fortunately, Ma Xiang could provide a guarantee, so it wasn’t a big deal.
“Ma Xiang, keep an eye on Su Yue’s ID card matter. I’m leaving first,” Lan Mu said.
Ma Xiang replied, “Of course, I guarantee it’ll be done tomorrow.”
After saying that, he leaned close to Lan Mu and whispered, “Brother Mu, you’re letting Su Yue stay at your place; don’t do anything reckless! That Tang Jing definitely wasn’t joking. If that tough girl goes crazy, you might not win against her.”
“Go on, get out of here! What are you thinking? I really want to help her. What do you think I’m after?”
Lan Mu gave Fatty Ma a glare and added, “By the way, I don’t have a car. Can you drive us in the police car?”
“Sure, no problem.”
Afterward, Lan Mu took Su Yue and had Ma Xiang drive them back to his rented place.
However, while waiting for Ma Xiang to get the car, Lan Mu faced a problem: Su Yue had lost her walking stick, making it inconvenient for her to walk.
Lan Mu said, “Hold onto my shoulder, alright? We just need to walk to the intersection. My friend will drive us.”
Su Yue smiled slightly, reached out to find Lan Mu, and gently grabbed the corner of his clothes.
Thus, Su Yue walked closely behind Lan Mu, following his every step.
The two got into the police car and soon arrived at Lan Mu’s place.
Ma Xiang accompanied them upstairs. Seeing Lan Mu’s room, he said speechlessly, “No way? Brother Mu, you’re still in this place? This is the Lan Cheng Studio you mentioned?”
“Ahem!” Lan Mu felt a bit embarrassed. The apartment he rented had one bedroom, one living room, and one bathroom. Originally, it was enough, but now with an extra girl, it suddenly became troublesome.
“It’s fine. She can have the bedroom; I’ll sleep in the living room.”
Ma Xiang looked disdainfully at the messy room and said just a minute after entering, “Brother Mu, I’m heading out! You handle things here!”
“Don’t rush. Help me tidy up the room first, then take me to Hualong Market to buy some daily necessities. Also, I need to go to Hualong Computer City to buy stuff. You have to help me carry everything!” Lan Mu said.
“Damn, really? Brother Mu, don’t treat me like a laborer! I’m really busy. Remember the case I told you about last night? I might have to follow the team to several places. I might even work overtime tonight,” Ma Xiang quickly complained.
Hearing this, Lan Mu didn’t press him and let him go.
Next, Lan Mu moved his things out of the bedroom to clear the room for Su Yue.
Su Yue, hearing the commotion nearby, said, “Mr. Lan, should I help too?”
Lan Mu smiled and said, “No need. I’m just moving my own things out. From now on, this room is yours.”
To be honest, Lan Mu even felt a bit embarrassed. He had taken charge without hesitation, yet the place was so small. Now they were inexplicably living together, and the studio was still nowhere in sight.
Lan Mu didn’t have many belongings. He mainly cleared out the wardrobe, piled all his things into a bag, and moved them to the living room.
“That’s about it. I’ll go buy some daily necessities. The living room is relatively large; setting up a single bed shouldn’t be a problem.”
“But this way, the studio can’t be run from home. Looks like I’ll need to rent a bigger place.”
Lan Mu scratched his head and said to Su Yue, “You stay here and get familiar with the surroundings. I’m going out to buy some things.”
“I’ll go too!” Su Yue seemed unwilling to just watch Lan Mu busy himself and insisted.
Seeing her determination, Lan Mu agreed. “Alright, there’s a supermarket downstairs. Let’s first get familiar with the nearby area.”
So, Lan Mu let Su Yue hold onto the corner of his clothes, and they walked downstairs one after the other. They started shopping at the supermarket, and Lan Mu introduced Su Yue to the supermarket staff.
Then they went to the nearby Hualong Market and bought a walking stick and a folding bed.
The original plan for today was to prepare for the studio, but it got delayed because of Su Yue. Seeing that it was getting late, Lan Mu had to buy some groceries before heading back.
Carrying bundles of stuff back home, Lan Mu was exhausted, covered in sweat and panting heavily.
As soon as he got home, he went into the bathroom and transformed. When he came out, he felt refreshed, with no backache or leg pain.
“And I decided not to transform unless absolutely necessary, yet I still couldn’t help but abuse my ability.”
Lan Mu mocked himself slightly, not really minding it. After coming out, he saw that Su Yue had already unfolded the bed and unpacked and sorted the things they bought.
Even though she couldn’t see, relying solely on touch, she moved as if she were sighted.
Lan Mu watched quietly from the side as Su Yue took out the groceries and found the induction cooker and rice cooker he had placed in the living room.
Those were already in the apartment. Since there was no kitchen, Lan Mu occasionally cooked dinner and had bought them for the living room.
After feeling the stove, pots, pans, bowls, and utensils one by one, Su Yue smiled slightly and began washing rice to cook.
After putting the rice into the rice cooker, she started her incredible cooking.
Everything she had touched once seemed to be memorized. From then on, each of her steps was as precise as a sighted person’s. She accurately put the vegetables into the pan, added the seasonings one by one without mistake. She even knew that because there was no range hood, the living room was filled with cooking fumes, so she stood up and walked to the window to open it.
The entire series of actions had her unique rhythm, leaving Lan Mu stunned as he watched.
He couldn’t help but sigh, “As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. How many times must she have done this to be so skilled?”
Soon, she prepared the meal all by herself and placed it on a small coffee table. Su Yue also knew there was no fridge at home, so she made a small amount—just enough for the two of them to finish in one meal, with no leftovers.
“Mr. Lan, please have dinner,” Su Yue said, accurately placing the chopsticks on Lan Mu’s bowl.
“Oh! Okay, okay.” Lan Mu sat down and said, “You sit down too.”
It was the first time eating a meal cooked by a woman at home, and Lan Mu felt a bit awkward. Trying to make conversation, he said, “Well, you’re really amazing.”
Su Yue smiled calmly and said, “I force myself to remember the position of everything around me. As long as I truly remember, it’s no different from seeing.”
Lan Mu understood what she meant. One could only say she had a “mind’s eye,” or her spatial awareness was exceptionally good.
At the same time, Lan Mu realized he couldn’t leave things lying around carelessly anymore. If he disrupted Su Yue’s familiar understanding of the room, it could cause her inconvenience.
“Don’t worry. If I move anything in the future, I’ll definitely tell you.”
Su Yue, who already kept her eyes closed, smiled, her eyebrows curving. “Mr. Lan, that’s not necessary. I’ll notice it myself.”
Lan Mu was moved by Su Yue’s smile. It was too pure, as if reflecting her soul, naturally expressing the pure joy in her heart.
So much so that Lan Mu couldn’t help but say, “I’m only twenty-five. No need to call me Mr. Lan. Like the others, just call me Brother Mu from now on.”
Su Yue nodded gently and said, “Understood, Brother Mu.”
The two quickly finished dinner. Su Yue insisted on washing the dishes and cleaning up herself.
Lan Mu almost walked straight into the bedroom but suddenly remembered he had given the room to Su Yue. So he rubbed his nose and looked at the folding bed set up in the corner of the living room.
After finishing everything, Su Yue sat calmly on the chair, placing her hands on her thighs.
Lan Mu habitually lay on the bed and opened his laptop. Suddenly seeing Su Yue looking idle, he immediately said awkwardly, “Uh, do you want to use the computer?”
As soon as he said it, he wanted to slap himself. What a stupid question! Sure enough, Su Yue shook her head.
Lan Mu quickly said, “Then what do you usually do when you have nothing to do?”
Su Yue replied calmly, “After tidying up like this, I also sit on the chair, ready for orders. If my aunt and the others needed anything, they would tell me to do it. If there was nothing, I would just sit aside and listen to their TV.”
“Brother Mu, you go ahead with your work. Don’t mind me.”
Lan Mu felt a bit awkward. He didn’t have a TV here; he never watched it, preferring to browse online rather than watch TV, which he found uninteresting.
Now, hearing Su Yue’s words, “listening” to TV was probably her only entertainment.
“You can watch TV on the computer too. What do you want to watch… uh, listen to?”
Su Yue said sheepishly, “I don’t know… I’ll listen to whatever is on…”
Lan Mu searched online for the latest TV series. Most were either palace intrigue dramas or anti-Japanese war themes. Imagining Su Yue earnestly listening to these shows gave him chills.
So he searched online for a funny sitcom about young people sharing an apartment.
After setting the playlist to auto-play, he handed the laptop to her.
“It’s all set up; it’ll automatically play the next episode. If you don’t want to listen anymore, just close the laptop.”
“Thank you, Brother Mu.” Su Yue pursed her lips happily, hugging the computer as if it were a treasure, and headed toward the bedroom.
But before entering the bedroom, she got caught by the laptop charger cord.
Lan Mu helped her unplug the charger and accompanied her into the room to plug it back in. He said, “A laptop doesn’t last long without charging. From now on, this computer will stay in your room. I’ll buy a new one tomorrow.”
Su Yue exclaimed, “Then I won’t use it.”
“Use it. I really am going to buy a new one tomorrow. I’ll need a better computer to handle video files in the future. I was actually going to buy one today.”
Lan Mu walked out of the room and, hearing the sound of the TV series from the bedroom, finally relaxed and lay down on his new bed.
He lay there fiddling with his phone. A few hours later, feeling a bit sleepy, he simply fell asleep.
However, in his sleep, he had a dream.
He felt himself in an infinite space, surrounded by countless spheres of light like a sky full of stars.
Suddenly, one light sphere merged into his body, and he immediately felt his whole body trembling.
This shaking sensation jolted him awake from his dream. When he rolled off the bed, it was already early morning.
Moonlight streamed in through the window. He could even feel that the moonlight shining on his face was active, something he could touch.
He reached out a hand and actually grabbed a handful of moonlight!
He quickly pushed open the window, and a rush of air that he found extremely repulsive filled his lungs.
Feeling uncomfortable, he willed it, and the moonlight in his hand scattered like a swarm of fireflies across the living room. The air instantly felt purified, becoming fresh.
Carefully sensing himself, it felt somewhat similar to transforming into the White-maned Lion—all five senses were greatly enhanced, and there was even a sixth sense.
Faintly, he seemed to hear the trees by the roadside paying homage to him.
