Chapter 77: The Overlooked Simple Question

“How was your business yesterday?” Sasha asked after they had been eating for a while.

Liu Heming was taken aback; this was the first time in a long while that Sasha had initiated a conversation with him about something “unrelated.” Normally, their exchanges revolved entirely around little Alex.

Not receiving a reply from Liu Heming, Sasha frowned slightly. She only knew that Liu Heming had returned very late the previous night, but she had no idea about the specifics.

“Oh, actually, business wasn’t very good yesterday. Although people showed a little bit of interest, no one actually tried anything,” Liu Heming quickly explained.

“Why is that? Wasn’t the taste good?” Sasha asked curiously.

Robin, who was nearby, also became interested. He had tasted the dumplings and rougamo before and knew how they tasted.

“I don’t know what happened. Luckily, I didn’t prepare too much filling yesterday, so I ended up giving it to the two Bear Cubs at a lower price,” Liu Heming said with a bitter smile.

“Didn’t you ask the customers why they didn’t buy?” Sasha continued.

“Ask the customers? Well… I forgot,” Liu Heming replied, feeling a bit awkward after a moment’s hesitation.

It was his first time running a business, his own venture, and yesterday’s setback had hit him so hard that he forgot the most basic step. It wasn’t a problem that customers didn’t buy on their own, but he should have asked them why they didn’t make a purchase. That way, he could have made improvements accordingly.

Sasha rolled her beautiful big eyes, Robin shook his head, and little Alex, who was watching the scene, also shook her head. The two Bear Cubs thought it was quite amusing and shook their heads along with the others, which annoyed Liu Heming greatly.

Just after breakfast, George and Lewis arrived one after the other. George wanted to check on Liu Heming’s business, and Lewis also came to discuss strategies with Liu Heming. After all, if Liu Heming made money, he would profit too.

“Lewis, I have a question for you. Why didn’t any of those people place an order yesterday?” Liu Heming asked Lewis with a serious expression.

“I don’t know either. Otherwise, how could we not have sold a single portion yesterday?” Lewis shook his head and replied with a bitter smile.

“Then why didn’t you ask the drivers why they didn’t place an order?” Liu Heming repeated the question Sasha had asked him during breakfast.

Sasha, who was standing nearby, shook her head helplessly. She had noticed that after spending more time with Liu Heming, he could be quite amusing.

“Neither of you asked that question?” George asked curiously before Lewis could answer.

Lewis shook his head awkwardly, and Liu Heming scratched his head sheepishly but accidentally touched the big bump on the back of his head, causing him to grimace in pain.

“Dad, be good. Alex will blow on it to make it stop hurting,” little Alex said as she ran over, stood on her tiptoes, and blew gently on the bump on Liu Heming’s head.

Liu Heming’s heart felt sweeter than if he had eaten honey. He turned around, scooped the little girl into his arms, and rubbed his stubble against her cheeks.

“Mom, help! Save Alex! Dad is the Great Demon King!” the little girl shouted happily while wriggling in his arms.

The scene was quite heartwarming. Whether it was Robin, George, or Lewis, they all watched the father and daughter’s playful antics.

Sasha felt a little jealous again. Although Alex had become a bit “wild” since coming here, she could tell that Alex was much happier than when she was at home with her.

After playing for a while, Liu Heming let the little girl go, and Alex quickly ran over to the Bear Kids. The Bear Cubs were more fun; Dad the Great Demon King was too scary.

“George, I’ve never been in the food business before, so I overlooked that issue. It wasn’t until Sasha brought it up this morning that I realized it,” Liu Heming said with a laugh.

“But our Lewis also overlooked this problem, so it’s his fault. So, let’s inform all the townspeople today and have them go to his restaurant to eat. I’ll take care of the dumplings and Chinese Hamburger, and he’ll take care of the coffee.”

“OK, I’ll supply the coffee and beer,” Lewis said with a nod and a smile, feeling rather unlucky that such a simple issue had been missed.

“Dad, can the Bear Cubs and I come along too?” the little girl asked, running back over after hearing their conversation.

“Of course. Then you can take care of the Bear Cubs. Come on, let’s go see Charming Girl. She’s injured now and needs company,” Liu Heming said as he picked up the little girl.

When they arrived at the warehouse, they were once again greeted by droppings. There was no helping it; since Charming Girl was confined here, she had to relieve herself here as well.

Liu Heming set Alex down nearby, picked up a shovel, cleaned up the area, and gave it a quick rinse with water.

Alex ran over to Charming Girl and reached out her small hand to stroke the horse’s face.

Charming Girl cooperated fully. Even though she couldn’t move easily, she lowered her head and gently nuzzled Alex. However, Alex was so light that even this gentle nudge made her tumble onto her bottom.

But Alex wasn’t upset in the slightest. She stood right back up and pressed her little face against Charming Girl’s face.

Liu Heming, the photo-fiend father, didn’t miss this moment. He took out his mobile phone and snapped picture after picture.

The two Bear Cubs weren’t happy about this. They felt a little jealous. Since arriving here, no one had paid them any attention—everyone was focused on this big monster. So, they ran behind Alex, stood up on their hind legs, and became living bear backgrounds.

“Dexter, it’s really Charming Girl’s luck to have met you,” George said with emotion. The care she was receiving was top-notch.

“You all stay here and watch Charming Girl. I need to clean up after the other little animals, or the smell here will become unpleasant,” Liu Heming said with a smile.

Raising these poultry and livestock wasn’t easy. Feeding them was simple, but keeping things clean was a big hassle. The pig, chicken, duck, and goose droppings had already formed a small pile in just two days.

It was good fertilizer material, but once there was more, it would need proper handling; otherwise, the whole ranch would smell terrible.

Being a farmer wasn’t easy. Just dealing with the current small amount took him over half an hour to clean and feed everyone.

These little animals were still small, especially the two piglets. Once they grew bigger, he wasn’t sure if he’d have enough time to handle their sanitation. The bigger they were, the more they ate, and the more they ate, the more they pooped.

But if he wanted to taste better pork, he had no other choice.
