Chapter 68: A Little Surprise
Chapter 68: A Little Surprise
Liu Heming was not in a big hurry to go start his food business, because his situation was still a bit special.
At the moment, he still needed to complete his wok skill task. After all, you couldn’t just keep tossing a wok nonstop in Lewis’s kitchen. Besides, he didn’t plan to stay there all the time in the future either—that would tie him down too much. This was just a side job; his main job was still to run this Ranch well.
He looked at the little bear paw print mark he had just stamped onto the Horseshoe and nodded with satisfaction. It looked pretty nice.
“Dexter, take these sandpapers with you. Polish it step by step from the coarsest to the finest grit,” John said, handing him a big stack of sandpapers.
“John, I’ll tell you a secret,” Liu Heming said with a smile. “Back in China, I also did this kind of internship work. But at that time, I made a small hammer using a lathe.”
That was back during his University days, when everyone had to do precision engineering internships. He had been exhausted back then, trying out all the different types of work one by one. But thinking back on it now, he felt a little bit nostalgic.
After saying goodbye to John, he hurried back to the Ranch with the Bear Cubs. The two Bear Cubs were very curious about the Horseshoe; even though it was still a bit warm, they wanted to taste it and see what flavor it was.
Liu Heming didn’t stop them. Their curiosity was just as big as his. If he didn’t let them fully investigate the Horseshoe, they would keep thinking about it. There was no guarantee that halfway through polishing, they wouldn’t sneak off with it.
As soon as he returned to the Ranch, he saw a Mercedes-Benz car parked in front of his small building, and it made him pause. A Mercedes was a very nice car around here, and he didn’t have any friends who drove one. If it had been a Pickup Truck parked there, he wouldn’t have given it a second thought.
“Dad, Dad, I’m here!” As soon as he got out of the car, he heard his daughter’s voice calling from upstairs.
“Wow, Alex, you really gave me a huge surprise. Wait for me, I’m coming right up!” After a moment of surprise, Liu Heming immediately called back loudly.
This was like a dream come true. How many times had he imagined his daughter suddenly coming to visit him? And now it had actually happened.
He raced up the steps into the house, leaving the Bear Cubs behind struggling to keep up with his speed.
“Dad, did you miss me and Mom?” After he picked up his daughter’s soft little body, he heard her ask a question that wasn’t easy to answer.
“Of course I missed you,” Liu Heming said after a slight hesitation. “I called you guys, but Mom was busy with work, and Uncle Robin answered. Dad has some delicious food here; how about I make some for you at noon?”
Alex nodded happily, then she didn’t want to stay in his arms anymore—she wanted to go play with the Bear Cubs that had just run inside.
“Sasha, good thing I didn’t stay too long in town. Can Alex stay overnight here today?” Seeing Sasha come downstairs as well, Liu Heming quickly asked.
Sasha nodded. “I’ve been too busy with work lately. This time, I was thinking of letting Alex stay here for a longer period. What do you think?”
“Did I hear that right?” Liu Heming asked, stunned.
Sasha nodded.
“Of course, no problem! She can play here as long as she wants. I know you’re worried about her; you can rest here too,” Liu Heming said hurriedly.
What a huge piece of good luck—it had just fallen right into his lap. Staying for a while wasn’t enough; it would be best if she stayed forever. Then he could have fun with his daughter all the time.
“Um… who is this?” Then he saw Robin and an unfamiliar girl coming downstairs. He felt a bit nervous about this girl.
The girl had a fantastic figure and slightly darker skin—compared to Sasha, that is. Her features were well-proportioned, and she was quite a beauty. Appreciating a beautiful girl was fine. But if this beautiful girl winked at you as soon as she met you, that was a bit of a problem.
“This is my good friend, Nina. She heard about this place and came to take a look,” Sasha explained.
“Oh, that’s fine. At noon, I’ll treat you all to some delicious food I recently developed. I was planning to sell it in town,” Liu Heming said quickly, turning his gaze to Sasha.
This Nina really was a little troublemaker. Winking was one thing, but why did she have to lick her lips too? It made him feel annoyed.
Now he started to worry a little. He was happy that Sasha had come without a bunch of bodyguards and was letting his daughter stay with him for a longer time. But with Nina acting like this right from the start, he began to have some suspicions.
He wasn’t handsome—not the sunny, tall, handsome type—so why would she wink and lick her lips at him? This Nina must be a close friend of Sasha’s. Maybe this visit was a test; if he took the bait, he would probably get beaten up.
He had definitely seen the edge of a gun handle peeking out from under her little jacket, right next to the spot that had caught his eye. If he got beaten up later, he wouldn’t be able to complain even if he was in the right.
Sasha seemed to notice Nina’s little move too, and she secretly gave her a glare. But although she thought it was subtle, it didn’t escape Liu Heming’s sharp eyes, which further confirmed his guess.
“Robin, why do you look so serious? Don’t worry, Alex won’t get hurt here. Didn’t she stay here fine last time? Plus, the vegetables in my Vegetable Garden are about to ripen. Later, I can cook more dishes for you,” Liu Heming said, walking up to Robin and giving his chest a light punch.
“I’m still a bit worried. This time, Alex is going to stay for a long time, so I’m going to install some surveillance devices around your house. There are too many wild animals around here,” Robin said.
“Alright, install whatever you want. Anyway, when I have money in the future, I’ll build the prettiest house for Alex,” Liu Heming said casually.
He knew Robin cared deeply about his daughter’s safety, so he could install whatever he wanted.
Robin nodded and added, “I’ve already installed them.”
Liu Heming rolled his eyes. So this was just to inform him.
He thought that was the end of it, but it wasn’t. Robin went out to the car and brought back a bag. Goodness—inside were four or five guns, several boxes of bullets, and even three grenades. Liu Heming felt a chill down his spine.
Rich people were just on another level. Even though owning guns was legal in the United States, firearms like these weren’t something ordinary people could own, not to mention the three grenades.
“You have to put these away properly. Don’t let the Little Bears see them—it would be very dangerous,” Liu Heming quickly warned.
Robin didn’t say anything, just nodded.
