Chapter 50: Mom’s Misunderstanding
Chapter 50: Mom’s Misunderstanding
“Dad, it’s okay. I’m not asking you to come over right now. I still have some money here, and I’ll see if I can make some more from the fields this year,” Liu Heming said with a smile.
“At the very least, you should try to come visit once a year to see your granddaughter. The little one can talk clearly now. Take a look at these photos first while I eat my noodles. Yesterday, she even helped me make Dumplings with me.”
He knew what his parents were worried about, but he didn’t want them to stress over money matters anymore. The Finger Sweet Potato would surely bring him some income, and if he came up with other ideas, earning enough for his parents’ plane tickets would be easy.
After saying this, he focused on eating the Instant Noodles from the bowl. He didn’t want his parents to dwell on this issue; letting them look at the child’s photos first was better. Once they saw the little one, they would surely be delighted.
“Heming, can Mom ask you something?” Su Rong said after a while. Liu Zhaoxiang nudged her beside her.
Liu Heming had been eating with his head down and didn’t notice his parents’ subtle movements. He mumbled with his mouth full, “Go ahead.”
“I think Alex’s mother is quite pretty. Is there no hope for you two? She seems like a good girl. It would be nice if you could get back together,” Su Rong said hesitantly.
“Pfft, cough, cough…”
Upon hearing his mom’s question, Liu Heming quickly turned his head, spraying the noodles he was eating. One strand even shot out from his nose.
When he had sent photos to the family earlier, he had forgotten to remove that group photo. Now, his mom had clearly misunderstood.
“Mom, how could that be? She came here to divorce me this time, and she already has someone she’s going to marry,” Liu Heming said, feeling both amused and exasperated after cleaning up.
“But Sasha is actually quite nice; I had some misunderstandings about her before. She was the one who actively brought Alex here, and she’s the one who told Alex about some of my things.”
“Also, why don’t you ask Dad to think about what name would be good for your eldest granddaughter? Even though we’re in the United States, she’s still our child and should have a name from us.”
He could only try to divert his mother’s attention. Otherwise, if his mom started worrying about this matter, it wouldn’t be good.
What happened with Sasha was just a beautiful misunderstanding. Even if they understood each other a bit, the huge gap in their family backgrounds and cultural differences made it almost impossible for them to be together.
“You want your dad to choose a name? He hardly recognizes any characters. Even your name was chosen with the help of the old principal. You should decide the child’s name yourself; definitely don’t ask him,” Su Rong quickly said.
“What’s wrong with asking the old principal? It turned out well. He said it means ‘bright below, illustrious above,’ from the Book of Songs,” Liu Zhaoxiang muttered softly beside her.
“Alright, then I’ll think about the child’s name myself. I’ll try to come up with a few options, and you can help choose later. Let me finish the rest of my noodles first. Keep looking at the photos; there are some from when the little one was younger,” Liu Heming said with a smile.
His own name had always been something his father took pride in. The old principal had been retired for many years, but his father had persisted for a long time to get the name “Heming.” However, he now felt he might not be living up to the name’s meaning.
The Bear Kids were very hungry and ate quickly. Before Liu Heming could finish his meal, the two Bear Cubs had already devoured theirs. Then, they started pushing his legs from under the table, signaling they wanted more.
With no other choice, Liu Heming went to the Kitchen and brought out a jar of honey. He carefully spread it on the Bread, using about one-third of the jar.
This was the two Bear Cubs’ favorite snack; they had a profound love for honey. Liu Heming had to control how much he gave them, worried they might develop diabetes.
He brought two more chairs and placed them beside his seat, letting the two Bear Cubs eat their honey bread while watching the computer screen.
“These two little ones look really cute. It would be great if they could stay this size forever,” Su Rong said with a smile.
“They’re big eaters. Even though they’re only a few months old, they eat as much as I do. When I first found them, they were so hungry they were just skin and bones,” Liu Heming said, drinking the last bit of soup from his bowl and wiping his mouth.
“You’ll have to feed them a lot then. But don’t just focus on them; take care of yourself too. You have so much land, and you’ve never really done farm work before. Don’t overwork yourself,” Su Rong reminded him.
“Mom, don’t worry. Everything here is mechanized. Corn, Soybeans, Wheat—all can be planted with machines, and harvesting will be easy too. Tomorrow, I’m planting Potatoes. I’ve already borrowed a machine from someone, and it’ll take less than an hour to finish,” Liu Heming said with a smile.
“When you and Dad come over, you’ll see. Even my new Farm, which is over six hundred acres, will only take five or six days to plant. It’s very fast.”
“We’ve never grown Wheat before. Over there, you should ask around about how to plant it properly,” Liu Zhaoxiang chimed in.
“I’ve already thought about that. There’s a neighbor in this Town who’s very helpful; he’ll guide me. When you come, you’ll meet him—a really nice, chubby old man,” Liu Heming nodded.
His father was different from his mother; he didn’t express concern directly. Even when he wanted to show care, his words came out indirectly. Liu Heming knew his father was worried he might have taken on too much and could end up losing money if things didn’t go well.
But he wasn’t really worried. The soil improvement task came with a title that increased yield and quality by 5% each. Plus, he had water here. Getting a good harvest next year was practically guaranteed.
“Don’t forget, when you have time tomorrow, go apply for your passports. I need to wash up and go to bed now; I’m a bit tired from preparing the Potato seeds today,” Liu Heming told his parents.
“Alright, go to bed early. If you’re too tired, soak your feet; it helps with fatigue. Also, wipe these two Bear Cubs’ paws. They lick them often, so make sure they don’t get sick,” Su Rong nodded, also showing concern for the Bear Cubs.
Liu Heming turned to look and saw that the two Bear Cubs had probably gotten honey on their paws and were now happily licking them.
After shutting down the computer, Liu Heming quickly washed up, carefully wiped the Bear Cubs’ paws, and then carried them to bed.
The Bear Cubs were used to this and skillfully tucked themselves under the Blanket, poking their bear heads out in unison.
