Chapter 43: Cute Kids Meet Bear Cubs (Part 1)
Putting up shelves was really not an easy job. Even with help from those people, Liu Heming still worked a little overtime into the night. Otherwise, it would have been hard to finish.
After gaining a bit of Strength and a bit of Mental Power as expected, he carefully checked how it felt. Maybe the increase was too small, as there wasn’t any obvious change.
It had to be said, the title System was very impressive. Especially the favorability with animals—it seemed almost unbelievable to Liu Heming now.
In just three days, he made the two Bear Cubs learn they had to go outside when they needed to relieve themselves. They also stopped climbing onto the bed directly with their claws, instead using the small stool beside it. Besides occasionally coming back all dirty, there was basically nothing else for Liu Heming to worry about.
Well, not exactly nothing—these two Bear Cubs had quite big appetites, and they were still gradually increasing. What was more troublesome was that every meal had to include meat. Luckily, they weren’t picky about the type—chicken, beef, or pork were all fine. Liu Heming could only use the cheapest chicken to get by, and they ate it quite happily anyway.
Today, Liu Heming dressed in fresh clothes. He even carefully brushed Xiong Da and Xiong Er’s fur in the morning and helped clean bits of meat from between their teeth.
Because today was special—his daughter was coming again.
Last time she visited, he wasn’t prepared at all, and the house was a terrible mess. They even had to eat at someone else’s place. Today, he felt he should cook a meal himself for his daughter and spend good time playing with her. If she could stay overnight at his place, that would be just perfect.
“You two must behave later. The one coming is my own daughter. If she wants to play with you, don’t run away,” Liu Heming instructed the two Bear Cubs while waiting.
The little ones were a bit restless. Now that their bodies had recovered and they were full of energy, they really wanted to go play nearby. Liu Heming caught them and brought them back, making them wait together a while longer.
After another seven or eight minutes, two cars approached. Liu Heming felt a bit relieved. Last time, the commotion was too big, making his place seem like a dragon’s den or tiger’s lair. Even though he could understand it—probably Sasha had childhood trauma—the protection didn’t need to be that extreme.
The bodyguards got out first, led by the gorilla-like Robin. But now Liu Heming thought Robin was a good guy and waved to him.
With hopeful eyes, he watched his daughter jump out of the car wearing little leather boots. Last time, she wore a Princess Dress; this time, it was simple top and pants with the little leather boots. Her hairstyle changed too—this time, she had two short little ponytails, though they were a bit short.
“Go on, go greet my daughter,” Liu Heming said quietly, gently nudging the Bear Cubs with his leg.
The Bear Cubs obliged, wiggling their little bodies and butts as they crawled toward Alex.
“Wow, they’re so cute,” Alex said with a happy face.
Seeing his daughter smile made Liu Heming’s heart feel sweet. Even without any mission reward, making his daughter happy was already worth it.
“Don’t worry, they’re very well-behaved. They don’t use their claws when interacting with people,” Liu Heming quickly said when he noticed the bodyguards looked tense.
The bodyguards hesitated, waiting for Robin’s order. Robin also wasn’t sure. He knew Liu Heming cared a lot about his daughter and probably wouldn’t let Alex be in danger.
In that moment of hesitation, Alex met the two Bear Cubs. They say when fellow villagers meet, they shed tears of joy. Here, it was a cute kid meeting bear cubs, and it was definitely a happy encounter.
The Bear Cubs were quite strong. As soon as they reached Alex, they made her fall back on her bottom. But Alex wasn’t the least bit fussy. She just sat there, hugging the two bear heads, giggling without stop.
The Bear Cubs had gotten used to being with Liu Heming these past few days, so they weren’t unfamiliar with being hugged. They rubbed their heads back and forth against Alex’s little body.
Sasha, who got out of the car afterward, frowned slightly when she saw Alex sitting on the ground like that. But seeing her daughter having fun, she didn’t say anything.
Liu Heming, who had been watching her expression, let out a quiet sigh of relief. He was worried that his soon-to-be ex-wife, who was also his biggest creditor, might be unhappy.
“Sorry, I was supposed to visit Alex, but here you are making the trip again,” Liu Heming said to Sasha with an apologetic look.
“It’s fine, as long as she’s happy,” Sasha shook her head.
“Mommy, come over quick! They’re so fluffy and cute,” Alex called out in her clear voice, turning around.
“Robin, can I ask what your schedule is this time?” Liu Heming asked, poking Robin after Sasha went over.
“I don’t know. I follow the young lady’s orders; there’s no plan yet,” Robin replied seriously, glancing at him.
Liu Heming began to wonder if there was any chance he could have his daughter stay overnight.
“Alex often asks about you at home,” Robin added just as Liu Heming was thinking.
This was an unexpected delight. If Sasha said it, he wouldn’t believe it, but he trusted Robin. Robin rarely spoke, so when he did, it was serious.
“For lunch today, we don’t need to eat out. I’ll cook a few dishes for you to try,” Liu Heming said with a smile.
Robin glanced at him and grinned slightly, probably as a gesture of thanks.
“Dexter, come over quick! I can’t carry them—what should I do?” Alex called out again.
“That’s easy. Let me handle it,” Liu Heming said. He walked over, picked up Xiong Da, and put him in Robin’s arms. Then he lifted both Xiong Er and his precious daughter.
“There, now I’m carrying all of you,” Liu Heming said, nuzzling his cheek against his daughter’s.
“Mm, they’re so cute,” Alex said, stroking Xiong Da’s belly.
While they were enjoying their loving moment, Robin and Xiong Er were having a bit of a struggle.
Robin didn’t know how to hold Xiong Er properly, and Xiong Er wasn’t comfortable in his arms either, squirming nonstop. He even pushed at Robin with his little paws, though thankfully he didn’t scratch.
“Why doesn’t the Bear Cub like Uncle Robin?” Alex asked curiously.
“It must be because Robin isn’t as cute as Alex,” Liu Heming gave an irresponsible explanation.
Robin, who heard this from behind, rolled his eyes. That explanation was really annoying.
