Chapter 184: Annoying Task

When he just returned to the ranch, he saw everyone standing in the yard. Following their gazes, there were two small black dots circling in the sky.

He was truly frustrated. Last time, there was only one chicken thief, but this time there were actually two. Did they really think he was easy to bully? He had even placed the chickens at the doorstep, yet they still found their way inside. This was just too much.

“Dad, Dad, will our little chickens fly away with the birdies again?” As soon as Liu Heming got out of the car, Alex ran up to him and held his hand.

“We can’t let them fly away again. We need to keep them to stew and eat,” Liu Heming said with a bitter smile.

“Robin, can we use a gun to scare them away?” Liu Heming asked Robin.

“It’s very difficult. They are too far from the ground now. Even with a rifle, it’s hard to hit them,” Robin replied, shaking his head with a bitter smile.

He was confident in his shooting skills, having trained with bullets in the past, but shooting eagles in the sky? That was a joke. That would require a top-tier marksman or something only seen in movies. They might appear to fly slowly and follow a fixed path, but that was because they were flying too high.

“Dad, Selin wants to go up and fight the birdies,” Alex said, tugging at his arm while Liu Heming was worrying.

Liu Heming turned to look and saw Selin the owl, also looking up at the sky with his wings slightly spread, as if he could see the two eagles.

Liu Heming hurried over and held Selin. Even though Selin was quite large, he stood little chance against an eagle. Their fighting abilities were not on the same level.

“Do you think we can catch these two eagles?” After taking Selin back inside, Liu Heming looked at Robin and asked.

“Are you crazy? How could we catch them?” Robin glanced at him.

“It’s simple. We can set a trap. I’ll lie underneath with a chick placed above. When it swoops down to grab the chick, I’ll pull the trap from below and catch it,” Liu Heming said with a smile.

“Are you sure you can react in time? An eagle dives with great force and speed. If it can catch a chicken and fly away, it means it’s very strong,” Robin told him.

“Let’s give it a try. Otherwise, I feel like even with us here, they might still dare to come down and take my chickens. It’s not good to have them eyeing us like this,” Liu Heming said with a bitter smile.

He really had no other options and could only mimic the method from the movie No Man’s Land. Whether it would work or not, he had no idea.

But as he said, if these two eagles kept circling above his home every day and couldn’t find chickens, they might start targeting the ducks and geese, causing constant trouble.

Just as they finished discussing, they saw Selin, who had somehow wandered out of the house again, take off into the air and fly toward the two circling eagles.

That wasn’t the worst part. The worst was that the System chose that moment to issue a small task, adding to his troubles.

“Task Name: Alex’s New Pet.”

“Task Content: Capture the two Peregrine Falcons in the sky.”

“Task Time: 3 hours.”

“Task Rewards: Animal Affinity +10, all physical attributes +1, one Lucky Grand Draw, one Appraisal Skill.”

“Task Penalty: Animal Affinity -30, all physical attributes -5.”

Seeing the task displayed before his eyes, Liu Heming felt that the System was just messing with him. The time limit was too strict—only three hours. He didn’t have wings; how was he supposed to capture them?

He glanced at his daughter beside him. The little girl’s face was tense, but her eyes were excited.

He sighed inwardly. The biased System—no wonder it had been ignoring him lately; it must have been playing with his daughter. Now that his daughter liked the eagles in the sky, it gave him this annoying task.

He felt that this task was bound to fail. If Selin hadn’t flown up, and he had tried the method he just thought of, he might have had a chance to complete it within the time limit. But now, with only three hours, even if he had wings, he wouldn’t be able to catch these two eagles.

Wait, these weren’t ordinary eagles—they were Peregrine Falcons. Peregrine Falcons dive even faster and are fiercer. Didn’t Jenny say last time that Selin was attacked by two Peregrine Falcons and almost died?

“Robin, I need to ask you something,” Liu Heming called Robin aside and whispered.

“What is it? I definitely can’t shoot now; it’s too easy to hurt Selin,” Robin immediately shook his head.

“It’s not that. Can I borrow your bulletproof vest and helmet?” Liu Heming asked.

“What do you need those for?” Robin’s eyebrows nearly knit together.

“I think Selin definitely can’t beat these two Peregrine Falcons. When Selin comes back, they might chase after him. If I could catch one of them…” Liu Heming said somewhat awkwardly.

This was another clumsy idea he came up with, his last effort for this task. Even though it was an annoying task, the System probably wouldn’t give him one that was completely impossible.

Since he couldn’t fly up, he had to wait for the Peregrine Falcons to come down. Their impact was strong, and his body might not handle it. Having some protection was the least he could ask for.

“Dexter, how do you know they are Peregrine Falcons? Peregrine Falcons rarely circle like this,” Robin looked at him, puzzled.

“Ah? Hahaha… They’re not Peregrine Falcons? I thought they were the same,” Liu Heming forced a laugh and scratched his head.

In his heart, he complained endlessly, “How would I know what they are? The System told me. The way these two Peregrine Falcons are flying now is probably the System’s doing.”

Robin studied him for a moment longer, then shook his head. He couldn’t figure it out. He really thought such a situation was impossible; Liu Heming was just being too imaginative.

But since Liu Heming was daydreaming, he might as well indulge him. It could be entertaining.

He went inside and helped Liu Heming put on the bulletproof vest, then a jacket over it. He also gave him a helmet, goggles, and gloves.

When Liu Heming came out again, everyone was very curious. But Liu Heming didn’t give them a chance to ask questions; he immediately shooed them all inside, including Alex.

There was a saying about waiting by a tree for a hare. He didn’t know if his plan counted as waiting by a chicken for a Peregrine Falcon.
