Chapter 175: A New Idea for the Task
Chapter 175: A New Idea for the Task
Liu Heming really felt he did not quite understand Nina and Sasha. They were just like Alex, very fond of Little Wormy.
Now Little Wormy’s wounds had healed, and he was much livelier than when he first arrived. However, Alex was afraid he would run off to places she could not find him, so she tied a little string around him and led him like a small pet every day.
Actually, being a bit lively was normal, but the problem was this baby alligator had a mischievous nature. It seemed as if he held a grudge from when he was recovering and the Square Kittens played with his tail, so he always wanted to “sneak attack” the Square Kittens.
But with his clumsy ways of attacking, how could he possibly be a match for the Square Kittens? Every time his sneak attack failed, they pressed him to the ground and slapped him with their paws until he had no strength left to fight back.
It was only because the Square Kittens knew he belonged to the family that they did not use their claws. Otherwise, Liu Heming thought the baby alligator would have been scratched badly, and even his alligator skin might not have been able to withstand the Square Kittens’ sharp claws.
He had just been taught a lesson again by the Square Kittens, and now the baby alligator was lying quietly on the ground pretending to be pitiful.
“Your place is getting more and more interesting. I really wonder how many more little animals will show up in the future,” Nina said as she picked up the baby alligator from the ground and played with him for a while.
“Hey, why aren’t you saying anything? Are you still thinking about that article?” Seeing that Liu Heming did not respond, Nina leaned closer to him and poked him as she asked.
“No, I wasn’t thinking about that,” Liu Heming shook his head, glanced at his daughter playing nearby, and lowered his voice. “Two chickens are missing from home, and I haven’t dared to let the little one know yet. I still don’t know how they went missing.”
“Could they have been eaten by Big Bear?” Nina also leaned in and whispered.
“It wasn’t Big Bear. One went missing a few days ago. I checked Big Bear’s mouth—there were no feathers or raw chicken inside. Another one went missing tonight after the chickens came back. I don’t know if some other animal has come near the ranch,” Liu Heming shook his head again.
These chickens roamed over a large area. After the first one went missing, he had searched the ranch roughly. But when another one went missing today, he started to feel uneasy. If they kept disappearing like this, it wouldn’t be long before all his chickens were taken away.
“Ahem.”
Sasha gave a light cough nearby.
Liu Heming then noticed that he and Nina had gotten too close while talking, almost too intimate. He sat up straighter to show he had no ulterior motives.
Nina didn’t care about that at all. Instead, she leaned even closer to him, almost squeezing into his arms.
“Well, we’re going to start planting wheat tomorrow. If you’re interested, you can come and join in the fun,” Liu Heming said seriously.
“What are you afraid of? Sasha doesn’t mind,” Nina ignored his words and poked him with her elbow.
Liu Heming stood up helplessly and went outside to check on Charming Girl. He really couldn’t stay there any longer; Nina was getting bolder and bolder.
Charming Girl’s due date was probably in the next few days. Since the exact date was uncertain, he had to keep a close watch. When Liu Heming came in, Charming Girl walked over to him and rubbed against him as a way of saying hello.
“You need to be careful these next few days; you’re about to become a mom,” Liu Heming said as he picked up a small brush nearby and began grooming Charming Girl.
“After you give birth, we’ll start training again. I’ve been studying a lot of training methods lately. They might not be entirely correct, but I think you’ll do just fine.”
“Work hard, and then we’ll go run a few laps on the track and easily win some championships or something. Once we complete the task, your life will be much easier. You’ll be able to do whatever you want.”
He had no idea if Charming Girl understood him, but he just poured out his thoughts to her. However, he knew it would be very difficult. Even if Charming Girl recovered, they still needed to find a jockey. But he had no connections for that now, so it would have to wait until later.
Just as he was about to chat with Charming Girl some more to pass the time, he suddenly received a notification from the System: he had successfully cultivated a type of product.
Without thinking twice, he ran straight to the greenhouse. He hadn’t cultivated anything else, so it must be those morel mushrooms.
He turned on the lights there and lifted a corner of the covering. He saw the ground covered densely with small morel mushrooms.
“Hahaha… That’s the way!” Liu Heming laughed out loud.
This success proved that his approach was right. Maybe morel mushrooms had specific environmental requirements, but the Small Lake Water from the System wasn’t for nothing. Spraying it every few days had actually made these morel mushrooms grow.
Even though they weren’t fully grown yet and he hadn’t tasted them, the System’s recognition meant they were definitely going to be good.
Moreover, this successful cultivation gave him a new idea. Completing the tasks given by the System didn’t seem that hard after all. With the help of the Small Lake Water as a cheat, he could achieve twice the result with half the effort.
Looking at the morel mushrooms on the ground, Liu Heming felt joy in his heart. Even though they were only the size of a fingernail, they represented not just the completion of a task but also future earnings.
No matter what, his morel mushrooms were being grown out of season. Their flavor wouldn’t be worse and might even be more delicious. It seemed he would need to spray more Small Lake Water in the future.
Following the principle of sharing good news, Liu Heming called Sasha and the others over to let them share in his joy.
Even after living here for a long time, Sasha still found it hard to accept that they had actually grown morel mushrooms. She wasn’t as easily fooled as others; if they were that easy to grow, why would anyone bother searching for them in the forest?
“I think you brought me good luck. In the future, we should set aside more space here just for growing morel mushrooms,” Liu Heming said seriously.
“Well, should we contact Janet? Maybe when these morel mushrooms grow bigger, they could get USDA certification,” Sasha said, somewhat uncertain.
Last time, it was for her daughter that she secretly gave the Small Lake Water to Janet for testing. This time, it was different. If she did that too often, it would become annoying.
“Can these get USDA certification too?” Liu Heming asked curiously.
“Probably. Let’s wait until Janet comes tomorrow to take a look,” Sasha said again, still unsure.
