Chapter 166: The Bad Guy is a Good Person
Chapter 166: The Bad Guy is a Good Person
“Dad, the bad guy is over there.” Just after they herded the calves into the truck, Alex tugged on Liu Heming’s arm and whispered.
Liu Heming followed his daughter’s gaze and sure enough, it was the bad guy—the young man named William who had sold Charming Girl to him.
“George, why does it look like William is also buying calves? Is his family planning to switch to ranching? I thought they specialized in racehorses?” Liu Heming asked.
“I’m not really sure, but in recent years many people have started investing in large ranches. It would be normal if his family wanted to get into this business too,” George said with a bitter smile.
“The world of rich people is hard for us to understand. Because they have money, they can invest however they want. And for them, the bigger the ranch they run, the less risk there actually is. Small ranches like ours face the biggest risks.”
Liu Heming nodded. George was telling the truth.
People with big ranches could diversify their operations, and the large Grain Companies preferred to buy from such ranches. Small ranches like George’s and his own usually had to join together with several other small ranches to make purchases worthwhile. Otherwise, their output was too low to be worth the trouble for buyers.
Especially since conditions in Xiangshui Town were so unique. Even if all the local ranches pooled their resources, the grain merchants showed little interest.
“Alright, Alex, let’s not worry about the bad guy. We’ll go home soon and play with these little calves,” Liu Heming said, ruffling his daughter’s hair.
He didn’t want to deal with the bad guy, but the bad guy came over to them first.
“You’re George, the Town Mayor of Xiangshui Town? The one who stopped the auction plan for Xiangshui Town?” William asked George in a cold tone as he approached.
“I am George. Xiangshui Town is our town, and no one will buy it from us,” George said firmly.
“Don’t you realize you’re just a clown? Even with a Senator helping you stop the auction, it’s only a delay,” William said scornfully.
“Next year, our family will definitely buy that Land over there. We originally wanted to give you people some consideration, but you don’t know your place.”
After saying this, William turned to leave.
“Bad guy!”
A clear child’s voice rang out, making William stop in his tracks. He turned around to see who had called him that, and his eyes finally settled on a small figure.
“Who are you?” William walked back and stared at Liu Heming.
“Figure it out yourself,” Liu Heming replied. He was speechless—were his features so unmemorable that William didn’t recognize him?
William frowned, searching his memory but finding no trace of recognition.
Someone beside him thought for a moment, then leaned in and whispered in his ear. A mocking smile appeared on William’s face. “So you’re that fool.”
Now he remembered—this was the fool who had paid a high price to buy that mare with a broken leg from him.
“Yes, I’m that fool,” Liu Heming shrugged. “But I’m a lucky fool. Charming Girl’s leg injury is healing very well, and in about twenty days, she’ll give birth to a foal.”
“But my good fortune comes from you. I found out that a good Quarter Horse like that, especially one that’s been on the track, could sell for at least four thousand dollars. Not only did you sell her to me for a very low price, but you also threw in some foals. You gave me a bargain price and even included extras. You’re not a bad guy; you’re a good person.”
He had nothing to hide now. Since William had called him a fool to his face, why hold back?
Hearing this, William frowned, thought for a moment, then smiled again. “Being a fool isn’t so sad. But being so foolish that you believe your own lies—that’s truly sad.”
He didn’t believe for a second that an injury like Charming Girl’s could heal. If it were that easy to fix, why would he have sold her? He would have treated her himself.
Liu Heming smiled, took out his Mobile Phone, scrolled through it, found a photo, and held it up proudly in front of William.
The photo showed Charming Girl and his daughter, taken when his daughter was happily sharing Carrots with the mare.
Although the picture wasn’t very clear, it was obvious that Charming Girl was in good condition, with no unusual posture. If her leg were still badly injured, she would have trouble standing properly.
William’s frown deepened. He didn’t want to believe that Charming Girl’s leg had recovered so well, and her much larger belly indicated the foal inside was healthy. But even though he didn’t want to believe it, the photo convinced him. Having been around horses since he was young, he had an eye for these things.
He was angry. The fact was, just as this person said, he had been a good person and given away a bargain. But he didn’t want to do that, and he didn’t want to be the good person. However, he couldn’t think of anything to say in response, so he just snorted coldly and left with his people.
“Dad, how did the bad guy become a good person?” Alex asked, wrinkling her little brow.
“He gave us Charming Girl, so isn’t he a good person?” Liu Heming said, brushing off her question.
The little girl thought about it but still didn’t understand. Then she gave up, turned around, and started watching the calves in the truck.
“I didn’t expect their family to want to buy our Xiangshui Town too. I’m afraid it will be really hard to save Xiangshui Town next year,” George said with a bitter smile.
Even though the William Family wasn’t that great, they truly excelled at breeding Racehorses and had produced many champions. They were also one of the few billionaires in the area.
Now that they had their sights on Xiangshui Town, it would be much easier for them than for other developers. Although the environment in Xiangshui Town was poor, if they turned it into a large Racehorse Amusement Park, the weather wouldn’t matter as much.
“George, don’t think about it too much. Even if their family really has the ability to buy it, it won’t be until next year,” Liu Heming said, patting his shoulder to comfort him.
About this matter, he could only offer comfort. You could mock and sneer, but to stop the William Family from targeting Xiangshui Town, you needed real money. And that was what the people of Xiangshui Town lacked the most.
