Chapter 137: Selin
Chapter 137: Selin
When Jenny left this place, she was confused. She really had not thought that the injury, which appeared incredibly troublesome to her, would be handled so easily by Liu Heming.
She did not know if that black, paste-like substance was effective, but the water stored in an ordinary bottle with a faint green tint was truly miraculous. She had asked Liu Heming many questions and finally, with a shameless face, begged for a tiny bit before leaving the ranch.
Liu Heming could only tell her that it was prepared through his secret method, and in the United States, it was not considered a medicine. He was not practicing medicine illegally; he was just helping the big owl regain its health.
Sasha, who was nearby, was first surprised, then could not hold back her laughter. Watching Liu Heming talk nonsense with a serious face seemed quite cute to her.
After Jenny left, Liu Heming and his group went to the warehouse to continue visiting the big owl.
Alex thought for a moment and, even though the little kittens were very impatient, she placed them on the owl’s body. Liu Heming felt that the little kittens looked utterly resigned to their fate.
Although they usually acted fierce and aggressive, in front of this owl that was like a huge monster, they all became well-behaved.
It must be said that the big owl was quite calm; it merely lowered its head to look at these four little creatures and then ignored them. It just kept watching the area with its eyes.
“Dad, look, the big cat and the little kittens seem similar. It’s just that the big cat’s beak is curved,” the little one said happily after observing for a while.
As for the question of what exactly the difference was between the “big cat” and the “little kittens” in the child’s words, Liu Heming felt it was better to leave that to Sasha. As a dad, he truly could not handle it.
The big cat lay there for a while but started to feel uncomfortable. However, its body was large, and its left wing was tied up, making it difficult for it to stand up on its own.
Alex fully embraced the spirit of helping the owl for fun. With a serious face, she tried hard to lift the owl up. But the little one’s body was still too small, and her strength was limited; after much effort, there was no result.
“Are you just going to watch? Why don’t you help Alex?” Sasha, who was watching from the side, glanced at Liu Heming and said.
“Oh, oh, oh, I’ll help right now, I’ll help right now,” Liu Heming did not dare delay. He ran to his daughter’s side, exerted a little force, and helped the owl stand up.
“Alex, do you remember that movie called ‘Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole’ that I took you to see?” Sasha said to the little one.
“Yes, I remember. But the owls in that movie weren’t as big as the big cat, and they didn’t have little feathers like the big cat,” Alex said very seriously.
“It is related to the owls in the movie. Look, Mom, Dad, and you—aren’t you all a little different too? So from now on, don’t call it a big cat. It’s an owl, not a cat; they are two different species,” Sasha explained very patiently.
“Oh, then what should I call it?” Alex nodded, then tilted her head and frowned while thinking of a name.
Liu Heming gave Sasha a thumbs-up. He had to admit that when it came to educating their daughter, he was far behind Sasha. He could play with their daughter just fine, but when it came to learning knowledge, he had significant limitations.
“Big guy, I really can’t think of a name. Can I call you Selin?” the little one thought for a while, then tried to negotiate with the big owl.
The big owl had no idea what she was saying; it just slightly lowered its head and touched the little one’s head.
This made the little one incredibly happy; she beamed with joy. She picked up the little kittens at her feet, stood on her tiptoes, and placed them one by one on Selin’s shoulders.
Admittedly, although they were different species, the sight was quite amusing. Especially the four little kittens, who had now become very well-behaved.
Letting his daughter play there, Liu Heming went back to the house, cut some chicken strips, and soaked them in Small Lake Water. This could be considered a welcome meal for Comrade Selin, though he wasn’t sure if it would help with its injury.
Just as he stepped outside, he saw Jenny had returned, and several cars arrived with her. Alfred also stepped out of one of the cars.
“Don’t worry, Selin will be well taken care of here. Oh, by the way, this is the name my daughter gave to this big owl,” Liu Heming said with a smile.
“Hello, Dexter. Can that Medicinal Liquid of yours be produced in large quantities?” Alfred quickly walked up to him and asked.
“It’s very difficult,” Liu Heming shook his head. “I extracted it from the sweet potato vines. If I want to extract more, I’ll have to wait until next year.”
“Also, don’t try using other sweet potato vines. My sweet potatoes are different from ordinary ones. Many beneficial components are present in higher concentrations than in regular sweet potatoes, and the same goes for their vines. This was confirmed by tests done at the Department of Agriculture, so it’s very accurate.”
“Is that so? Then could you sell us some of the remaining Medicinal Liquid?” Alfred followed up.
This made Liu Heming hesitate a bit because this Medicinal Liquid was not like the Black Jade Fracture-Healing Ointment; it could not only stop bleeding but also detoxify. Relatively speaking, the bleeding-stopping effect was actually secondary.
This was a very precious Medicinal Liquid. Now that Alfred wanted to buy it from him, he really didn’t know how to set a price.
Why was this different from what he had imagined? Shouldn’t he be advertising, and then wealthy people would line up to come to him for treating their small animals?
“Alfred, it’s not that I don’t want to sell it to you, but this Medicinal Liquid is very precious,” Liu Heming said after thinking for a moment.
“This Medicinal Liquid can not only stop bleeding but also detoxify. For example, if you get bitten by a poisonous snake in the wild, drinking some of this Medicinal Liquid could save your life.”
“However, this Medicinal Liquid cannot be considered a medicine in the United States; it can only be regarded as a nutritional supplement. I can’t sell it to you, but since we have a good relationship, I can give you some. I just have a small request.”
“Dexter, what is the request?” Alfred asked.
“Let me adopt this big owl; my daughter really likes it. Also, if there are other small animals my daughter likes in the future, could I adopt them first and then complete the paperwork later?” Liu Heming asked with a smile.
Selling it wouldn’t fetch a good price. The Wildlife Management Bureau was a department with little funding, not to mention it could strain their relationship. Giving it away was fine; he wouldn’t break the law. But he couldn’t just give it away for nothing—he had to get some benefit, right?
“OK, I can agree to that,” Alfred said readily.
Compared to that Medicinal Liquid, he felt Liu Heming’s small request was hardly a request at all.
