Chapter 133: The First Task of Version 2.0
Chapter 133: The First Task of Version 2.0
Jenny came over, and Liu Heming did not let her leave in a hurry. He asked her to give Charming Girl a simple check-up and invited her to stay for dinner at home.
The four little kittens ate some meat and drank water, and they became very energetic. Even though their fur was not completely dry yet, they began to stroll around the house.
They were not very steady on their feet, but their curiosity was just too strong. Under the furniture, behind the curtains… anywhere they could see and found interesting, they wanted to explore. Alex was kept busy, having to watch them all the time to prevent them from getting their fur dirty again.
By dinnertime, Alex was so busy that sweat covered her forehead. Having four little kittens was a bit too much. They ran around in all directions, making it hard for the little girl to keep an eye on them.
“Oh, I also brought a litter box and cat litter for them. I thought you probably hadn’t prepared any,” Jenny said, then ran outside to her car to bring in the litter box and cat litter.
“Thank you, Jenny. Otherwise, my house would have been a mess tonight,” Liu Heming said, patting his forehead gratefully.
If Jenny hadn’t thought of it, his house would have turned into a big toilet tonight. These little kittens would have pooped and peed everywhere, and who knows how much damage they would have caused.
“I haven’t congratulated you yet on finally saving Xiangshui Town,” Jenny said, waving her hand.
“Ah, it’s only a delay for now. We don’t know what the weather will be like next year. If Xiangshui Town only has a few people like this, it will eventually be auctioned off,” Liu Heming sighed.
It was like a person sentenced to death, about to be executed, then told the execution would be postponed for a year. Though he was happy, when he thought about the future outcome, he still felt uneasy.
“Dexter, Charming Girl is recovering very well. In just a few days, she has been able to walk normally. It’s really amazing. I was even thinking that maybe soon, she could run freely on the ranch.” Seeing Liu Heming’s low spirits, Jenny changed the subject.
“Charming Girl used to be a racehorse. Although she never won a championship, she did achieve some good rankings. If she hadn’t gotten injured this time, she might still be running on the track,” Liu Heming said with a smile.
But as soon as he finished speaking, he froze because the System had assigned him a task.
Task Name: Return to the Track.
Time Limit: Twenty-four months.
Task Content: Make Charming Girl return to the track and win at least a top-three placement in one race.
Task Reward: Animal Affinity increased by 10. Additional reward: 1 Lucky Grand Draw, 1 Appraisal Skill.
Task Penalty: Animal Affinity decreased by 5.
“Dexter, even if Charming Girl can’t become a racehorse again, being able to run normally is already something to be happy about,” Jenny said, noticing Liu Heming’s strange expression.
“Jenny, do you think it’s possible for Charming Girl to truly return to the track?” Liu Heming asked after calming himself down.
Jenny frowned. “Dexter, it’s very difficult. Although Charming Girl’s bones are healing well, I’m afraid she won’t be able to handle the intense running required on the track.”
“Races aren’t just physically demanding; they also add the weight of the Jockey. No matter how much the Jockey controls their body, it would likely exceed what Charming Girl can handle now.”
Liu Heming forced a bitter smile. That was the truth, but he had a reason he had to do it. However, he couldn’t explain it to anyone. Even in the future, he could only use the excuse of doing what’s best for Charming Girl. Fortunately, the task had a long time limit, and the penalty was relatively low.
This was the first task issued after the System upgraded to Version 2.0, and it was assigned just as he thought about making Charming Girl return to the track. He wondered if the System now had some flexibility in assigning tasks. Could it be that the System issued tasks related to what he hoped for?
He only briefly thought about it and didn’t dare dwell on it further. What if the System really worked that way, and if he thought carelessly, the System would carelessly assign him tasks? That would only cause trouble for himself.
He was someone who had undergone many task tests. Although this task seemed very difficult now, he felt the System wouldn’t assign him a task he couldn’t complete. If it did, it wouldn’t benefit the System either. So, even though this task seemed tough, there might still be a slim chance of success.
Charming Girl had eaten so many Sweet Potato Vines and now drank water from the Small Lake every day. Perhaps she could truly return to normal.
Thinking this, he stopped dwelling on the matter and focused on the food in front of him.
The four little kittens seemed attracted by the smell of the food. They stopped wandering around and gathered near the dining table. With great effort, they climbed up Liu Heming’s leg.
However, their bodies were still too small. Climbing onto the table was out of the question. The climb probably exhausted them, as they now curled up on Liu Heming’s leg, huddled together in a little pile.
“These little ones look chubby, but it’s just that their fur is a bit longer. They hardly have any meat on them,” Liu Heming said, looking down at the little ones with a smile.
“Cats are usually like that. But you should also be prepared. When they’re young, they’re curious about everything and can be very destructive,” Jenny said with a laugh.
“You should buy some scratching posts for them later, so they can sharpen their claws. Otherwise, they’ll scratch the furniture. Their destructive power is no less than that of ordinary dogs.”
“It’s fine. After all, Alex adopted them, so she’ll have to take care of them. If they damage any furniture, we’ll deduct the cost from her future allowance,” Liu Heming said, glancing at his daughter.
The little girl frowned. She didn’t know what an allowance was yet, but she instinctively felt it might cause trouble later. However, the thought passed quickly, and she began eating her food heartily.
Seeing his daughter eat so eagerly, Liu Heming took a napkin and wiped her mouth. The more he looked at his daughter, the more he adored her.
Liu Heming’s cooking skills had improved a lot compared to before. With the bonuses and using water from the Small Lake while cooking, Sasha and Robin didn’t notice anything different, but Jenny felt the food at Liu Heming’s place was getting more and more delicious.
Without realizing it, she ended up eating half a bowl more rice than usual. In the past, she hadn’t been fond of rice at all.
