Chapter 69: Sudden Fight

Look!

Ahead there’s a pitch-black hole.

Shh~

He crept towards it quietly, pulled out a bottle, poured alcohol in, then lit a cigarette.

Boom!!

Gao Jing used this same trick three times in the forest.

Got three barbecued Jungle Black Widows.

He chopped off their heads, removed the tails, cracked the shells, and pulled out the meat.

Gao Jing honestly never knew these common black spiders could be eaten.

Almost missed out on something tasty.

The edible part is mainly their eight walking legs. Like a king crab’s legs—just peel off the crispy thin shell, and you get clear, snow-white meat inside.

This meat cooks in seconds with the alcohol flame—melts in your mouth, crazy delicious, with a special kind of sweet freshness.

Beats king crab by miles!

Thinking back on all those spiders he killed and just left behind… felt like such a waste.

Guided by this urge to make up for it, Gao Jing became the Jungle Black Widow Slayer.

Truth is, these spiders are dumb. Looks scary, but totally zero at combat.

They hide in deep holes about 2-3 meters deep. Sense ground vibrations to hunt and shoot out silk webs.

Gao Jing had only a little high-concentration alcohol saved in his Bronze Anchor. So after a few BBQ sessions, he used his old method instead.

When ambushed? Let them drag him close. Get super near then slash with his knife.

Finally, chop off all eight legs and store them in the Bronze Anchor as stash for good meals.

Anything stored inside the Copper Anchor Storage Space stays fresh forever. Even months later? Exactly how it went in.

While living things can’t go in, tiny stuff like bacteria can sneak in.

But once inside? Dead instantly!

Gao Jing tested it. That storage space sterilizes like a beast.

Also, ice turns slowly to water inside. Hot things gradually cool.

Any open flames? Poof. Out. Immediately!

Lots more lurked in these woods than black spiders, honestly. Insects, animals—countless critters.

Big Wild Beasts too.

Gao Jing met two wild boars looking for food. One huge cat like a clouded leopard.

And a massive, dark brown lizard.

Since he Ignited his Bloodline, Gao Jing’s sight, hearing, smell, and sense of danger got super sharp.

Especially his threat radar.

So he avoided danger before it got close.

Though killing one would definitely prove his “courage and strength” for the trial…

Better save his energy.

Gao Jing wasn’t a honey badger from Blue Star.

By noon on day three, leaving Shan Yue Village deep into the forest—Gao Jing still hadn’t found his right target.

He did find a stream trickling down the mountain though.

Gao Jing crouched by the stream.

He scooped up some cold, clear water with his palms and splashed it over his face.

Days of walking left him feeling sticky.

Beyond uncomfortable.

He could trigger the Bronze Anchor power anytime. Return to the Primary World, take a steaming shower.

Even go for a massage service. No issue at all.

Roundtrip cost? Two Silver Scales. A measly 20,000 kWh of power? Whatever.

But unless absolutely necessary? Gao Jing wouldn’t do it.

Not because he couldn’t afford the bill—that was peanuts for him.

He just didn’t want to form that habit.

Too much comfort softens the spirit.

Plus, cheating like that would totally ruin the point of this Trial.

Just as Gao Jing finished his refreshing rinse and stood to leave—

A creepy feeling shot down his spine.

He whipped his head to the right.

About 30 meters away, a “giant bird” had pushed out from thick bushes.

And it advanced right toward him!

Tall as a man, this bird had a long skull like a crocodile. Its body leaned forward, two stubby limbs held up front.

A long tail dragged behind it. Feathers covered the wings stretching out from its shoulders. The back legs were thick and strong—moving shockingly quick.

Its clawed front limbs? Worst part. Ending in three curved, dagger-sharp talons.

Light gleamed faintly off them.

Velociraptor!

Looked at least 80% like park drawings of Cretaceous raptors Gao Jing saw online before.

This beast clearly saw Gao Jing as prey. Had tried sneaking closer!

Greed and hunger burned cold red inside its two tiny eyes.

Now that Gao Jing spotted it? The dinosaur surged forward faster.

It closed the gap in one breath.

Huge jaws gaped wide—tore at Gao Jing’s head!

Instant reflex kicked in. Gao Jing threw himself backward, whipping his Machete free.

Crunch!

The Velociraptor clamped empty air. Its white teeth scraped loud.

That instant? Gao Jing counterattacked.

His fake Ontario Machete flashed downward. Sharp edge sliced the air hissing. Speed and force both reached terrifying levels.

Records of the Great Wilderness Combat boosted Gao Jing completely. Physique, strength, speed, reflexes? All maxed out.

That’s why he dared confront this killer beast now!

Thwack!

The raptor jerked its head sideways barely—Gao Jing’s Machete hacked deep into its neck!

The blade plunged three or four fingers’ depth into the tough hide—then stuck fast.

Bright blood sprayed from the wound.

Rawrrrk!!

The Velociraptor shrieked in agony. It swung one claw wildly blindly.

One talon slammed the Machete. Claw and metal scraped—skreee!

Gao Jing yanked the knife free. Shoved off the beast’s counter-lunge.

He coiled solid muscle tense now. Heart thrashed in his chest. Adrenaline spiked.

Blood racing hot through his veins!

His whole body trembled from the sudden clash. Zero fear, though—pure fierce excitement.

Nothing like carelessly crushing ants. THIS was the fight he needed.

His trial proving courage and true strength!

Pivoting his feet, Gao Jing circled left—ready to strike again.

Suddenly the raptor spun full around. Its thick tail lashed towards him like a whip!

Gao Jing slammed to a halt. His right hand locked tight on the Machete hilt. Left fist clamped hard on the blade’s back.

He faced that oncoming tail!

Thump!

A tail thick as an arm struck the blade—chopped clean through!

But the power hurling it? Too huge to absorb.

The Machete’s spine crunched backwards—hit Gao Jing’s ribs like an iron bar.

He slid meters over dirt. Stumbled wildly steps backwards before finally stopping.

Twin deep furrows had been carved into the forest floor!

Gao Jing choked back a grunt.

Astonishing pain. Not broken bones? But his breath felt choked tight!

He forced a deep lungful of air.

Straining tighter on the Machete, Gao Jing glared into the Velociraptor’s enraged eyes.

His battle spirit peaked.
