Chapter 266: Reflection

Gao Jing was small, and Giants were huge. Even possessing the same cultivation level, their strength wasn’t on the same level; this was determined by nature.

The Great World was the world of the Great Wilderness Giants.

But their large size and powerful strength didn’t mean total advantage. Like right now, as Gao Jing fought three Giants to the death, the Giants who completely overpowered him in strength couldn’t fight back.

The Giant hunters could shoot arrows or throw rocks, trying to knock the “tiny” Gao Jing out of the sky.

They could only rely on faith.

Gao Jing’s small size became an advantage instead.

On the contrary, when Gao Jing used the Barrett M107A1 to shoot the Giants, hundreds of meters away, they were huge targets.

The kind of targets you could hit even with your eyes closed!

These Giants of course tried to dodge. However, their bodies were simply too big. Plus, they were stuck in swampy ground where they couldn’t run freely, and faced sniper bullets traveling much faster than sound. They were completely trapped, forced to just take the hits.

And Gao Jing was shooting at their heads!

Among the three hunters, the leader was a High-Rank Totem Warrior. He knew the skill Battle Qi Empowerment.

Unless hit in the vital eyes, the 12.7mm sniper bullets couldn’t do much harm to him. Getting shot felt like being pricked by a thick needle; the bullet couldn’t even penetrate deeply into his muscles.

So, he could take any number of shots. It just hurt a bit.

The other two Low-Rank Totem Warriors weren’t so lucky. Unable to cover themselves with Battle Qi Empowerment, their defense against the sniper bullets dropped a lot. One bullet produced a spray of blood.

The wounds weren’t terribly big or deep for their size, but they couldn’t handle this constant damage.

Especially the hunter who got his left eye shot out; he became Gao Jing’s main target!

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The gunfire went on and on, seeming like it would never stop.

Accompanying the shots were the miserable howls of two Giants – they were getting pummeled too hard!

The leader, the High-Rank Totem Warrior hunter, even threw the small throwing hatchets he carried. But he still couldn’t hit Gao Jing, who kept flying around them in hit-and-run attacks.

Seeing his companions suffer terribly, even facing death, he could only stomp his foot angrily and roar: “Retreat!”

They had to retreat. The two hunters didn’t know how many times they’d been shot. Their heads and faces were covered in blood, and they had bloody holes on their necks.

If this kept up, they’d bleed dry.

The most important thing was, they couldn’t effectively fight back against Gao Jing. They had powerful Totem Combat Arts but no chance to use them.

The two Giants felt like they’d been granted mercy. They supported each other and fled back the way they came.

The hunter leader scooped up two chunks of mudstone. Following close behind, he provided cover.

Gao Jing didn’t chase them down.

The Dreamer Mark III flying machine didn’t have long flight time. While he could return to the Primary World to replace or refuel it, the Bronze Anchor’s Silver Scales were running low.

Besides, chasing them wasn’t really worth it.

The actual combat showed that the Barrett M107A1 was very powerful against ordinary Giants, but ineffective against Giant Totem Warriors. Even without Battle Armor, just the Battle Qi Empowerment was enough to block the sniper bullets.

Gao Jing didn’t have unlimited bullets either. He hadn’t restocked since buying them in New York City.

Now, they were also running low.

Under these circumstances, he changed his target.

That Red-Eyed Marten!

This creature was quite cunning. After the fight broke out, it had hidden in the bushes, not showing itself.

Only when the hunters retreated did it run out, following closely.

This gave Gao Jing an opportunity.

Bang!

The Red-Eyed Marten had just caught up behind the fleeing hunter leader when its head was struck by a 12.7mm sniper bullet.

Though it was a Monster Beast, its abilities weren’t centered on defense, and its head certainly wasn’t hard as metal.

It wasn’t very big either.

Squeak~

The Red-Eyed Marten, not being human, never thought Gao Jing would attack it. Thus, it was completely unprepared.

The shot blew open a bloody hole in its skull, sending it crashing to the ground, convulsing in terrible agony!

Hearing the Red-Eyed Marten’s shriek, the hunter leader spun around.

He saw his beloved pet lying in a pool of blood.

“No!”

The eyes of this fierce hunter almost burst with fury.

Bang!

Gao Jing’s second shot followed instantly, blasting another hole in the Red-Eyed Marten’s head!

The Red-Eyed Marten’s front paws scratched the air uselessly a few times and then it stopped moving completely.

“You!”

The hunter leader, witnessing his pet’s tragic death, looked up. His gaze locked onto Gao Jing was filled with pure hatred.

Obtaining this Red-Eyed Marten had been incredibly difficult; it was his most precious possession!

From capturing it as a cub, to feeding it while it grew, to training it to search for Moon Clams in the swamps – he had spent untold effort and money. And now, it died before it could even pay back its cost.

The size of this loss caused the hunter leader a pain that pierced his heart.

Gao Jing didn’t care how much pain or rage he felt. He shot the leader right at his face.

He believed in giving no offence but retaliating when provoked. Since you chose hostility, you better be ready to be slapped hard!

The hunter leader lifted his palm, blocking the sniper bullet aimed at his face.

He gave Gao Jing one last, deep look. Then, he grabbed the Red-Eyed Marten’s corpse and turned to chase after his companions.

Gao Jing didn’t pursue.

He watched as the three Giants vanished into the thick jungle.

Only once he was certain they wouldn’t return did he slowly descend back to the ground.

Taking off the Dreamer Mark III flying machine, Gao Jing put it back into his Storage Space.

He wasn’t in a hurry to leave this place.

The battle just finished had exposed several problems in his combat abilities.

First, firearms lacked sufficient killing power. Ambushing worked somewhat, but facing Totem Warriors among Giants head-on, he couldn’t achieve effective kills, especially against Mid-Rank and High-Rank ones.

Gao Jing reckoned he needed to switch to at least an M134 Minigun to kill Low-Rank Totem Warriors.

To deal with that High-Rank Totem Warrior, he’d probably need an even bigger, more powerful cannon.

If he had a Type 1130 Close-in Weapon System firing ten thousand rounds a minute, even High-Rank Totem Warriors who could manifest Battle Armor would have to kneel!

But right now, Gao Jing could only dream about that kind of firepower.

It was far too difficult to obtain.

He knew very well that equipment and weapons were just external aids. True strength lay in himself.

Thinking it over, Gao Jing removed his leather armor. He then focused all his energy to activate the Titan Totem on his back.

The next moment, his body violently swelled, shooting up almost seven meters tall!

After breaking through to the Great Warrior level, Gao Jing’s power increased enormously. This brought a massive rise in the potent energy of his Primordial Totem.

This height in the Great World might only be infant-sized for Giants, but it gave Gao Jing hope that one day he could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the true Giants!

Once he mastered Beast Spirit Fusion, and then advanced to become a High-rank Totem Great Warrior, or even a High-Rank Totem Great Warrior…

He would be even more powerful!

Pop!

His stretchy underpants couldn’t withstand such a huge change. They tore into two pieces.

Gao Jing clenched his fists, looking at the large muscles bulging on his thick arms.

The air around him felt like it turned scorching.
