Chapter 124: Goblin Knight
Chapter 124: Goblin Knight
Appearing before Gao Jing’s eyes was a camp hidden deep within a dense forest.
A goblin camp!
The camp wasn’t very big. It resembled a small village ringed by vine-covered branch fences, with about a dozen ramshackle mud huts built inside in a messy fashion.
With a single sweeping glance, Gao Jing spotted dozens of goblins.
Some were cooking food. Some were sound asleep on the grassy ground. Others were roughhousing in a muddy pit.
Still others were hiding behind the huts, doing something unspeakable.
At the center of the camp stood a small sacrificial altar, piled high with animal skulls.
A Hobgoblin stood beside the altar, holding a vine whip in its hand and yelling orders at the other goblins.
It looked very imposing.
This goblin was clearly larger and stronger than an ordinary goblin. It wore a set of dark brown leather armor. Weapons shaped like daggers and short swords hung from its waist.
Its equipment was rather impressive.
Most importantly, behind this Hobgoblin lay a Giant Rat!
The dark gray Giant Rat was over 3 meters long. A saddle was strapped to its back, clearly meant for riding.
Two Green Skins attended the Giant Rat. One used a brush to groom its fur until it shone.
The other fed the Giant Rat.
Seeing this, Gao Jing understood immediately.
This was an outpost camp of Goblin Knights!
The Gru Goblins were undoubtedly one of the most special races in the underground Abyss.
They shared ancestors with the Ancient Remnant Clan and the Great Wilderness Humans. But over ten thousand years ago, they fell away from civilization’s ranks. They became outsiders surviving mostly on instinct.
Closer to beasts.
But goblins also possessed some intelligence and power, especially the strongest among them.
In the world of Gru Goblins, the most common were the ordinary Green Skins: ugly, savage creatures, always eating and breeding.
A tiny few of these ordinary Green Skins might awaken their bloodline or gain greater power through other means.
These goblins were called Hobgoblins.
The Goblin Knights were the elite among Hobgoblins. Their most defining trait was their ability to tame and capture Giant Rats, using them as mounts.
They had strong combat power.
As for the most powerful among the Gru Goblins? They were called Goblin Lords.
A Goblin Lord often commanded tens of thousands of Green Skins, equivalent to a small independent kingdom.
Since goblins reproduced incredibly quick, when a tribe expanded beyond what the land could support, the Goblin Lord would send Goblin Knights under its command to set out and build new territories.
According to the Elder Shaman, because there was limited space to expand underground, the Green Skins kept pushing outwards towards the surface.
What Gao Jing had encountered now was undoubtedly a Green Skin pioneer force led by a Goblin Knight!
Having understood their origin, Gao Jing had no other thoughts.
He just needed to fight!
He took off the backpack he carried and stored it inside his Storage Space. Then, he strode directly towards the goblin camp.
“Gulu!”
Gao Jing made no attempt to hide his actions. A Green Skin spotted him immediately.
Thwack!
It had barely begun hopping around and shouting when, suddenly, a javelin shot towards it like lightning.
It nailed the creature violently to the ground – that was the price for making too much noise!
“Wuha!”
The next moment, Gao Jing burst into the goblin camp like a whirlwind, letting out a thunderous roar.
“Gulu-ya!”
The completely unprepared goblins in the camp panicked instantly!
Gao Jing’s roar awakened their terrifying memories of Giants. Every single one was scared out of their wits. They scrambled and crawled, crying for their parents, desperately searching for places to hide. Their cowardly, bully natures were completely exposed.
Only that Goblin Knight stayed calm.
Because it saw the truth immediately and became enraged.
“Gulu Gulu!”
The Goblin Knight swung its vine whip, knocking down several Green Skins scrambling before it.
Angrily, it pointed at Gao Jing and yelled crazily.
The startled goblins finally saw that the intruder was just one person, and definitely not a Giant!
Their courage returned instantly.
Grabbing crude weapons like bone clubs and wooden sticks, they bared their teeth and began closing in on Gao Jing!
“Scram!”
Gao Jing ignored these weaklings completely. Directly, he unleashed his Crimson Snake Aura.
An invisible wave of terrifying force instantly enveloped a wide area around him.
The Green Skins, who had been fierce moments before, were now scared witless. They scattered in every direction like headless flies!
They were truly a mob.
That Goblin Knight also felt the force of Gao Jing’s aura. A flash of fear appeared in its eyes.
But after all, it was no ordinary goblin. With a low growl, it spun around and jumped onto its waiting Giant Rat mount.
It grabbed a long black spear planted nearby.
The Giant Rat surged up from the ground.
Its beady, vicious eyes fixed on Gao Jing as it opened its fang-filled mouth and let out a harsh shriek.
Gao Jing had never taken his eyes off the Goblin Knight.
So he saw every move the enemy made.
Without hesitation, he charged straight at the Hobgoblin leader.
“Gulu!”
With a ferocious snarl, the Goblin Knight raised its spear, pointing it at Gao Jing.
Its Giant Rat mount, hearing the shout, surged forward like an arrow released from its bow, hurtling towards Gao Jing!
The distance between them wasn’t large to begin with. In an instant, they were about to crash head-on.
The Goblin Knight’s long black spear aimed directly at Gao Jing’s chest. Its face twisted into a bloodthirsty sneer.
As if it could already see its spear piercing clean through its opponent!
Under normal circumstances.
When cavalry clashes with infantry, the cavalry holds a clear advantage.
But this advantage relies on both individuals having comparable strength levels.
At the moment when the Goblin Knight’s spear was almost stabbing its target,
Gao Jing seemed to have springs under his feet as he suddenly jumped high into the air.
He threw a punch toward the Goblin Knight riding on the Giant Rat!
This punch carried the force from running fast, plus the Totemic Power from Gao Jing’s tough training.
The fist moved through the air with strong power, and its force was at its strongest.
Without real fights, there was no real breakthrough.
Gao Jing’s past lessons from the Ten Thousand Beasts Combat Art all went into this hit.
Super fast, super accurate, super fierce!
The Goblin Knight, caught off guard, felt a lot of fear.
He couldn’t avoid it, so he quickly lifted his left arm to shield his face.
Bang!
Gao Jing’s iron fist struck the Goblin Knight’s left arm.
There was a sharp “crack” sound as his strong arm broke bones and tendons instantly, then slammed into his face!
The Goblin Knight let out a low groan, his head snapped back, and he spurted bright red blood.
His whole body flew backward on its own.
He crashed down in a spot five or six meters away.
Great!
Gao Jing landed next and felt his heart full of joy beyond words.
This was the battle he always wanted!
In the name of iron, blood, force, and fists!
Squeak~
The Giant Rat dashed forward for a bit before it noticed its rider was missing.
It quickly stopped its body.
Whoosh!
But when it turned back to try and help the Goblin Knight,
a crossbow bolt flew right at it.
It hit its nose directly!
Gao Jing hadn’t forgotten this fellow.
The sharp metal arrow tip went easily through the tough rat skin, broke the hard head bone,
and drilled into the Giant Rat’s head.
Squeak!
The Giant Rat, hurt badly all of a sudden, couldn’t help but make a sharp cry.
Because of the great pain and injury, its mind went totally wrong.
It wasn’t dead yet, so it attacked the nearby goblins out of instinct.
But the Giant Rat also gave the Goblin Knight a small time to rest.
This strong one among the goblins grabbed a Bone Club that had fallen to the ground and fought his way up.
His eyes were blood red as he rushed at Gao Jing again.
Perfect timing!
Gao Jing didn’t feel satisfied yet, so he at once swung his fists to fight back.
Thud!
He raised his arm, full of Totemic Power, to block the falling Bone Club, then struck a hard right hook to the Goblin Knight’s chin.
Again, he blasted him away!
Gao Jing ran after him with big steps, tackling like a tiger and pressing down on the Goblin Knight who had just landed.
Left fist, right fist, left fist, right fist…
Bam! Bam! Bam!
Among the goblins, the Goblin Knight was as good as a Totem Warrior, having some strong power.
But against the iron fists of Gao Jing, a true Totem Warrior, he only took four or five punches before his whole head was smashed.
Dead for good!
As Gao Jing stood up again with fists covered in blood, there were no Green Skins around.
They all got so scared and ran off!
