Chapter 39: Go Big or Go Home!
Chapter 39: Go Big or Go Home!
Tang Chen had already left the gold shop. He bought the ring, taught someone a lesson, and had no reason to stay any longer.
“Young Master Tang, you were so awesome just now. To be honest, I’ve met many second-generation rich kids, but none of them were as cool as you,” Zeng Zhiseng said, spraying saliva everywhere as he spoke. He kept giving thumbs up and laughing admiringly the whole way.
Tang Chen couldn’t stand this chatterbox anymore and said impatiently, “Skinny Bamboo Pole, could you shut up for a bit? I’m so annoyed.”
Zeng Zhiseng chuckled sheepishly and said, “Young Master Tang, my bad. I’m just really excited.”
Tang Chen didn’t bother responding further and let him follow behind. In his mind, he said to the System, “System, come up with a plan for me. I want to give the ring to Yang Mi, but I can’t just give it to her in a boring way. That doesn’t match my style at all.”
System: “Respected Host, my brain is highly intelligent. Please don’t ask me to think of such silly ideas, okay?”
“Damn your second uncle! Who are you calling silly, you stupid System? You’re not human, so of course you can’t understand how I feel right now,” Tang Chen cursed at the System angrily. This System just had to argue with him, didn’t it? After a pause, he continued, “Stop the nonsense and help me out quickly.”
The System stayed silent for a moment, then said, “Respected Host, I just searched your local network for romantic ways to give a ring and found a few videos. Are you sure you want to watch and imitate them?”
Tang Chen said with satisfaction, “Of course, System. You’re pretty efficient. Show me now.”
System: “In that case, please watch carefully.” As it spoke, the LED screen appeared again, and the first video played before Tang Chen’s eyes.
The video showed an extremely overweight man kneeling beside balloons and roses in front of another overweight woman, saying affectionately, “I love you. Marry me.” Then the two hugged and started kissing. The whole scene looked a bit gross.
Tang Chen’s lips twitched as he said, “System, first of all, this isn’t a proposal. Second, couldn’t you pick videos with better-looking people? This scene makes me sick.”
“Ugh,” the System sighed helplessly and continued, “Respected Host, you’re really picky. I have videos of people exchanging rings while bungee jumping, riding on whales, or deep-sea diving. Which one do you want to watch?”
Tang Chen was shocked and snapped angrily, “Damn System, can’t you show me something normal? Why is it either weird or life-threatening? Can you be serious for once?”
“Ding! The great System Lord has been looked down upon by the foolish Host. A Beginner Task is hereby issued: Make all the students in the school recognize you and admire you. If the mission succeeds, the reward is a shy green apple. If the mission fails, the Host must dance to ‘Little Apple’ in front of all the students while only wearing his underwear.”
Tang Chen’s face immediately darkened. He never expected the System to give him such a task, nor did he expect the System to be so petty. Was it really necessary to mess with him just because he showed a little disrespect?
“System, are you sure you want to give me this task?” Tang Chen squeezed the words out through gritted teeth. This damn System even wanted him to dance in his underwear—it clearly wanted him to lose all dignity.
The System replied arrogantly, “Respected Host, I am very angry. My brain is far more advanced than your pig brain by several galaxies, yet you spoke to me in such a dismissive tone. Didn’t you want a task? Well, I’ve given you one now.”
Tang Chen felt like cursing. This bastard—even if he admitted the System was impressive, it didn’t have to talk to him in such a condescending way. He was the Host, after all. Why did it have to steal the spotlight?
“You win!” Tang Chen cursed at the System, his forehead furrowed with frustration. This beast, damn its second uncle.
“I’ll take your task this time! It’s just about making all the students recognize and admire me. How hard can that be?” Tang Chen said proudly. This wasn’t the first time the System had given him such a ridiculous mission. He was used to it by now. As for the reward, the so-called “shy green apple,” the name alone made it sound suspicious.
“Hmph,” the System snorted dismissively, as if ready to challenge Tang Chen.
“Young Master Tang, what’s wrong?” Zeng Zhiseng had somehow made his way in front of Tang Chen and was waving a hand in front of his face. Why was Young Master Tang staring at him like that? Did he have… certain interests?
Tang Chen snapped out of it, rolled his eyes, and said to Zeng Zhiseng, “Skinny Bamboo Pole, you want to be my lackey, right?”
Zeng Zhiseng nodded excitedly and said eagerly, “Yes, Young Master Tang! Didn’t you say I could start as a trainee lackey?”
Tang Chen chuckled and said, “I’m feeling generous. If you help me with something, I’ll let you skip the trial period and become a full lackey.”
Zeng Zhiseng covered his butt and said with a bitter smile, “As long as it doesn’t involve my ‘chrysanthemum’ getting wrecked and full of wounds, I’ll do anything.”
“Screw your aunt!” Tang Chen kicked him in the butt and yelled, “What ‘chrysanthemum wrecked and full of wounds’? If you keep spouting nonsense, I’ll make sure your whole body is covered in wounds!”
“I believe you, I believe you,” Zeng Zhiseng said, rubbing his butt and quickly agreeing. He didn’t dare upset Young Master Tang.
Tang Chen then said to him, “Come here. Go find Fang Wenxin and tell him I said to…” Tang Chen whispered a few sentences into Zeng Zhiseng’s ear. Zeng Zhiseng’s eyes lit up after hearing them.
“Young Master Tang, that’s so cool! I got it. I’ll go right away.” Zeng Zhiseng kept praising the idea as “cool” before turning around and running off.
Tang Chen smirked confidently and said to the System, “System, just wait. I’ll show you how charming I am.”
System: “We’ll see.”
Ten minutes later, Tang Chen estimated that everything was ready, so he walked into the classroom and saw Yang Mi writing at her desk.
“Sweetheart,” Tang Chen called out in a teasing voice before walking over and putting his arm around Yang Mi’s shoulder.
The other students in the class just rolled their eyes but didn’t say anything. They didn’t dare—Tang Chen was too cool to mess with.
Yang Mi blushed and hit Tang Chen lightly, saying, “Tang Chen, stop saying such things. If you keep it up, I won’t talk to you anymore.”
Tang Chen chuckled and said, “Stop writing. I’m taking you somewhere.”
“Where?” Yang Mi asked softly as Tang Chen pulled her up. “Class is about to start. I don’t want to skip.”
“It’s not skipping class. I’m giving you a surprise.” Tang Chen pulled Yang Mi out of the school and headed straight to the broadcast room. He kicked the door open, startling the staff member inside who had been watching an adult film from Japan.
“What are you doing, student? Why didn’t you knock?” the old man on duty yelled angrily. Damn, he was just getting to the good part.
Tang Chen ignored him, pulled Yang Mi inside, and tossed a stack of red bills—amounting to over a thousand yuan—at him. “I have the Principal’s permission to make an announcement. Turn on the microphone.”
“Alright, alright, no problem,” the old man said excitedly as he took the money. He obediently walked to the computer and switched on the mic.
“Tang Chen, what are you doing?” Yang Mi still wasn’t used to Tang Chen’s flashy, rich-kid behavior. Throwing around a thousand yuan like it was nothing—what extravagance.
Tang Chen smiled, let go of her hand, and had her sit in a chair. “You’ll find out soon,” he said. Then, he picked up the microphone, cleared his throat, and announced, “Attention, all students! Attention, all students! This is Young Master Tang, the coolest, most awesome, and most stylish guy in this school. I’m ordering everyone to gather at the Sports Ground right now! Everyone, come to the Sports Ground! If anyone doesn’t show up, my ‘greetings’ will be sent to them immediately!”
Not only did Yang Mi find his words confusing, but students in other classes were also baffled. Some even scoffed. Sure, Tang Chen had been acting pretty cool lately, but did he really think he could boss everyone around? That was wishful thinking.
However, their doubts didn’t last long because they saw a boy followed by a large group of people walk in.
