Chapter 247: The Pentagon Infiltration Plan (2): Sneaking In Stealthily!
It was a sleepless night, not only for Jackson and the residents of the United States but also for Tang Chen. Last night, he stormed into Wang Jianfeng’s room and forced him to sketch the location of the room where the data materials were stored.
Luckily, Wang Jianfeng was a professor with an exceptional memory. So, drawing a map wasn’t a problem at all. Because of his helpful effort, Tang Chen surprisingly didn’t hit him.
Early in the morning, Tang Chen walked to Yuanyang’s room. He originally intended to knock and wake her up, but who would’ve thought Yuanyang seemed to know Tang Chen would come to wake her at this time—she actually stepped out of her room ahead of schedule.
“Good morning!” Tang Chen lowered his outstretched hand, feeling a bit awkward.
Yuanyang rolled her eyes at him and said, “Tang, the great genius, you look so excited this early in the morning. It seems you must’ve figured out a way to retrieve the data from the Pentagon.”
Tang Chen ignored her sarcastic remark, sat down, and said, “That’s right. This time, I’ll still need help from you and Black Fox’s team. They don’t need to stage a diversionary attack this time—just kidnap Wang Jianfeng.”
“Kidnap Wang Jianfeng? What do you mean by that?” Yuanyang simply couldn’t understand what Tang Chen was saying. Why did this guy always speak in such mysterious ways? Feeling outclassed in intelligence was truly unpleasant.
Tang Chen flashed an irritating smile and said, “Don’t worry about the details. First, call Black Fox and the others to meet up with us. I’ll explain my plan once we’re together.”
Yuanyang had no choice but to take out her mobile phone and call Black Fox’s team, warning them to be extra careful.
About three hours later, Black Fox and the others walked in, dressed in ordinary black jackets. They greeted Tang Chen and Yuanyang one by one. Ape angrily said, “Didn’t you say you caught Wang Jianfeng? Where is that bastard?”
Yuanyang gestured with her eyes toward the basement in the inner room. Ape clenched his fists furiously and said, “I’m going to teach that bastard a lesson! Betraying the country for personal gain—he should’ve died long ago!”
“Wait!” Tang Chen grabbed him firmly and said in a low voice, “That guy will die sooner or later. I’ve already dealt with him. We can still use him now, so don’t kill him yet. We’ll deal with him after completing the mission and returning to the country.”
“Alright, then I won’t kill him for now!” Ape no longer held any grudges against Tang Chen. Last night’s plan was flawless, and it made him realize for the first time that there really was a gap between him and Tang Chen. So, he genuinely respected Tang Chen now.
Tang Chen gave a satisfied hum and said, “Everyone, gather around the table. I have tasks to assign.” With that, the six of them walked to the dining table. Yuanyang and the others fixed their eyes on Tang Chen, quietly waiting for him to speak.
Feeling their expectant gazes, Tang Chen didn’t beat around the bush anymore and went straight to the point: “Since everyone is here, I’ll explain my plan. This mission is similar to last night’s—cooperation is still the most important part. As you all know, the U.S. government is desperately searching for Wang Jianfeng. Right now, escaping or retrieving the data seems impossible. Since a direct assault won’t work, we’ll have to rely on wit. Black Fox, I need you and your team to pose as kidnappers this time. Using a terrorist identity, call the current FBI director and demand a ransom to exchange for Wang Jianfeng and his family of three.”
Upon hearing this, Black Fox said curiously, “Tang Chen, I have some doubts about this plan. First, our country’s intention to rescue Wang Jianfeng is practically an open secret. Using a terrorist identity at this point would seem too fake. Second, why would we return Wang Jianfeng to them after going through so much trouble to capture him?”
Tang Chen’s gaze deepened as he slowly explained, “Listen to me completely. Whether they doubt your identity or not isn’t important at all. I just need you to use this excuse to draw all the FBI personnel away, thereby weakening the Pentagon’s defenses. Under my room, there are two boxes of bombs left over from last night’s valley explosion. When you pretend to return Wang Jianfeng and make the exchange, attack them with the bombs unexpectedly. Kill as many as you can and try to drag out the fight as long as possible.”
Black Fox immediately understood and said, “So it’s similar to last night’s diversion mission, but this time we’re posing as fake kidnappers.”
Tang Chen patted his shoulder and said worriedly, “It’s different, Black Fox. Last night’s task was only to force Wang Jianfeng out, and there were fewer FBI agents then. But this time is different. If they receive your demand for a cash exchange, they’ll definitely send more elite agents to capture you. You might not make it back this time.”
Black Fox clenched his fists, gritted his teeth, and said seriously, “That’s even better. I was afraid this mission would be as dull and unsatisfying as last night’s. This way, we can take down as many Big Nose as possible—let those bastards know not to mess with our country!”
Ape and the other two nodded solemnly. They were all young men in their mid-twenties, and their training from a young age had taught them to treat life and death lightly. As long as they could serve their country, they had no regrets!
Yuanyang looked thoughtful and raised a key question to Tang Chen: “Tang Chen, you’ve only assigned tasks to us. What about you? Are you coming with us?”
Tang Chen shook his head and said seriously, “No, I’m going to break into the Pentagon and retrieve our country’s nuclear missile data!”
“What? You’re going alone? No, Tang Chen, that’s too dangerous! I don’t agree!” Yuanyang and the others were horrified. They never expected Tang Chen to play the lone hero and break into the Pentagon by himself? How was that possible?
“Yeah, Tang Chen, we don’t agree either. It’s too dangerous.”
“This is madness! The Pentagon is heavily guarded—there’s absolutely no way you can get in.”
“Even if your skills are extraordinary, facing so many soldiers defending the Pentagon, you won’t be able to break in. Even if you could get in, there’s no way you’d come back alive.”
“Enough, I’ve made up my mind.” Tang Chen stubbornly cut them off and said coldly, “I, Tang Chen, never fight battles I’m not confident in. I know exactly what I’m saying, and I’m not playing hero. Think about it—would I make such a decision without being fully prepared?”
“But it’s too dangerous. No, I’m coming with you.” Yuanyang quickly interjected. Over the past two days, she found herself increasingly fascinated by this young man. He was like a whirlpool, always attracting her attention. She couldn’t just stand by and watch him go to his death!
“No, I’m going alone. Yuanyang, you’ll join Black Fox and the others. Your mission is even more dangerous than mine. Once I retrieve the data, I’ll rendezvous with you.” Tang Chen quickly stopped Yuanyang from saying more. Seeing she still wanted to argue, he added impatiently, “Bringing a woman along would be a burden. I’ve decided—I’m going alone!”
Yuanyang pursed her lips but ultimately said nothing more. She knew how stubborn Tang Chen was, and pushing further would only lead to an argument.
Tang Chen slapped the table and said loudly, “Alright, it’s settled! Once you’ve lured all the FBI agents away, I’ll enter the Pentagon at the same time. I want to see what the so-called most heavily guarded building in the United States really looks like!”
Before they knew it, it was afternoon. In the Pentagon’s Department of Defense Minister’s office, Jackson was grabbing his hair with both hands, feeling like he was about to break down!
A whole night had passed, and they still hadn’t found Wang Jianfeng and his family. Higher-ups kept calling to pressure him, even threatening at one point that if he couldn’t find Wang Jianfeng, he should just get lost!
Jackson didn’t want to get fired, but he couldn’t find the targets either, so he vented his anger on his subordinates.
“Minister, Minister, we have news!” Lawrence burst into the room without even knocking, looking panicked.
Jackson quickly stood up and said, “Did you find them? Where are they? Send someone to rescue them immediately!”
Lawrence replied hesitantly, “Minister, we didn’t find them, but I received a strange phone call. The caller claimed to be from the Red Army (the Red Army was once a major international terrorist organization) and said they’ve kidnapped Wang Jianfeng. They want us to prepare 100 million dollars for the exchange!”
“The Red Army? Wasn’t that organization wiped out by the United Nations long ago? I see—this must be a scheme by those Chinese. They’re disguising themselves as the Red Army to avoid causing international trouble for their country.” Jackson immediately pinpointed the key issue and asked, “Did you trace where the call came from?”
Lawrence answered honestly, “The caller used a public phone—we couldn’t trace it.”
Jackson hummed in acknowledgment and frowned, “These Chinese are so cunning, and not stupid either, using a public phone. It doesn’t matter if we can’t trace it. They gave us an exchange location, right? Mobilize all your elite forces. On one hand, pretend to exchange the ransom for the hostages; on the other, set up an inescapable net to capture them!”
“Yes, Minister! I’ll arrange it right away!” Lawrence responded and left the room.
Jackson slammed his hands on the desk, gritting his teeth, “Chinese, this time I’m going to catch every single one of you!”
Around 5:30 PM, still on the small path in the valley near the Pentagon, Tang Chen gently took out a red cloak from his pocket and muttered to himself, “According to the plan, Black Fox and the others must have lured those FBI scum away by now. It’s my turn to make a move. Do your best, Invincible Cloak—I’m counting on you!” With that, Tang Chen draped the cloak over himself, and with a whoosh, his entire body turned transparent…
