Chapter 194: Let Liu Jiangnan That Old Piece of Trash Carry Me Out!
Governor Ha glared at Madame Ha angrily, then walked to the table and picked up the mobile phone.
He glanced at the caller ID on it, and his legs involuntarily trembled.
“P-Party Secretary, what brings you calling so late at night?” The only person who could make such a famous provincial governor say that was the Party Provincial Secretary; there was no one else.
“Ha Weimin. You dare ask me what’s up? Usually, I thought you were pretty clean. But this time, you’ve let me down.” The Party Secretary spoke coldly, and his words made Ha Weimin’s heart jump to his throat.
“Party Secretary, I don’t understand what you mean.” Ha Weimin still held a bit of hope at that moment and dared not just say what happened.
“What do I mean? You have the nerve to ask.” The Party Secretary sounded furious and said sharply, “Haven’t you seen Weibo? Don’t you know the internet has blown up already? You know it’s my election time, yet you cause this mess—you want to die? That Liu Jiangnan is your man, right? How big of you—I wonder what kind of person is so important that you, a provincial governor, send people to deal with him. Do you not want your official position anymore?”
Ha Weimin’s defenses crumbled, and he didn’t dare make excuses anymore. Instead, he explained, “Party Secretary, please don’t be angry. This wasn’t my fault. I didn’t know—it was Madam Ha who ordered Liu Jiangnan to go after him without my permission. It really wasn’t my idea.”
The Party Secretary snorted and said, “Ha Weimin, don’t try to fool me. I know your wife is someone who holds onto grudges. But no one dares do stuff like this without your okay. I won’t ask many details—clean this up before it gets huge, or you’re packing up and getting out!”
“Party Secretary! Party Secretary!” Ha Weimin yelled, but the call had already ended on the other side. He muttered to himself in terror, “It’s over, it’s completely over.”
“Weimin, was that the Party Secretary calling?” Madame Ha seemed to realize how serious it was and spoke cautiously.
“Damn you! You happy now? You satisfied? It’s all over—my political career is ruined, I might even go to jail!” Ha Weimin got so mad he slapped Madame Ha’s face again and screamed like a lunatic.
Letting his people misuse their authority was a huge mess. Ha Weimin could already imagine if he didn’t handle this to please the Party Secretary, he’d only end up punished in a disciplinary meeting!
“That’s it, make the call! Call to have them release him soon!” Ha Weimin snapped back and quickly pulled out his mobile phone to call Liu Jiangnan.
Outside the Police Station, the chaos was still stuck. Journalists and people like Boss Pang and Chen Laosan were shouting for Liu Jiangnan to let someone go. But Liu Jiangnan stubbornly refused, and it looked like no result.
Just then, Liu Jiangnan felt his mobile phone vibrate. He pulled it out and saw it was Governor Ha calling. He stepped back inside the Police Station and answered respectfully, “Hello, Governor.”
Governor Ha said anxiously, “Liu Jiangnan, have you done anything bad to that kid yet, like torture to make him confess?”
Ha Weimin was scared—if Liu Jiangnan had added fuel by beating up Tang Chen, it wouldn’t be solved just by letting him go.
Liu Jiangnan was puzzled but still answered obediently, “No, Governor. I just locked him up, waiting for your orders.”
Governor Ha sighed in relief, then cursed and said, “Forget your damn orders! Let him go right this second!”
Liu Jiangnan didn’t get it and said, “Why, Governor? Didn’t Madame Ha order me to arrest him?”
Governor Ha cursed angrily, “Stop all the nonsense! Let him go! Release him now! Bring him out respectfully—no rudeness. Listen well, Liu Jiangnan: if anything happens to him, you can kiss your job goodbye. Beep! Beep!”
Liu Jiangnan zoned out at the dead line on the call for a long minute, put the phone away, and got angry himself. What the hell did this mean? After all that trouble, being seen as some shameless bureau chief—now he just says “let him go”?
Damned Governor was using his power to mess with him, huh? He grumbled resentfully in his mind, but Liu Jiangnan wasn’t an idiot—he didn’t call back to curse the Governor without risking his life.
“Crap, just letting him walk free.” Liu Jiangnan felt bitter—he’d risked so much to grab him, and now this wasn’t satisfying at all.
After thinking about it, Liu Jiangnan sighed and went outside. Then he shouted, “Quiet down! You want me to release him? Fine, I’ll bring him out now.”
This stunned many people, especially Liu Yanran. Liu Jiangnan had been so forceful moments ago—what changed?
Yang Mi wiped tears from her eyes. She didn’t think too hard; all she wanted was to see Tang Chen walk out alive.
“No! You bring Young Master Tang out first—then we’ll trust you!” Boss Pang and Chen Laosan exchanged a look and yelled loudly.
“That’s right! We’ll only leave after we see Young Master Tang safe and sound.”
“Exactly! Police talk, especially from a bureau chief like you, can’t be trusted.”
Chen Laosan and the others immediately joined in shouting, and a female journalist added calls to release him first.
Liu Jiangnan felt annoyed but bit his lip and held back his anger. He told two Special Forces soldiers next to him, “Go get the suspect—no, Young Master Tang—out now.”
“Yes.” The two Special Forces soldiers nodded and walked into the Police Station. They went to Tang Chen’s interrogation room and opened the door, saying, “Tang Chen, you can leave.”
Tang Chen curled his lip and sneered, “You arrest me whenever—release me whenever—you think I’m some easy-to-deal-with Young Master, huh?”
The two Special Forces soldiers looked dumbfounded—they’d never seen someone refuse freedom.
“Tang Chen, come on, things outside are already out of control. Get out soon.” One Special Forces soldier, around 25 or 26, spoke more maturely, advising Tang Chen.
Tang Chen slammed the table and said seriously, “What? Things are messy, so now you’re scared? Ridiculous! Did you think about this mess when you grabbed me? Young Master kept telling you I was innocent—why didn’t you believe me? You locked me up here like I’m cheap. Want me out now? Forget it!”
Tang Chen wasn’t leaving easy—damned them catching him on a whim. Now they feared things getting worse—didn’t match Young Master’s style.
He was dead set, so the two Special Forces soldiers were helpless. One said, “So what do you want?”
Tang Chen cocked an eyebrow and said teasingly, “Simple. Let Liu Jiangnan that old piece of trash carry me out! Or I’m staying—free room here. I’ll live here.”
Tang Chen was smart—Liu Jiangnan’s change meant public pressure had him cornered. Why not mess with him now?
“Uh…” The two Special Forces soldiers looked at each other again, muttered a bit, and one walked out directly.
Liu Jiangnan was waiting outside. Not long after, he saw a Special Forces soldier return, but no Tang Chen.
“Where’s the guy?” Liu Jiangnan snapped, half-hoping Tang Chen had escaped so he could hunt him.
The Special Forces soldier looked awkward and stammered, “He won’t come out. He has a condition—if it’s not met, he stays.”
Liu Jiangnan looked shocked—never seen someone so shameless demanding terms for release. He asked impatiently, “What condition?”
The Special Forces soldier chuckled nervously again and said, “He wants you to help him out with a carry.”
