Chapter 187: Mo Gui’s Death!
Chapter 187: Mo Gui’s Death!
Seeing Tang Chen’s appearance, Mo Gui burst into loud laughter and roared furiously, “Nothing left to say! Go to hell with me!” As he spoke, he started pressing the button.
Bang!
A gunshot rang out. The bullet struck Mo Gui’s wrist directly. Blood splattered, a sharp pain shot through his wrist, and the button clattered to the ground.
“Tang Chen, now!” Liu Yanran shouted, rushing up the stairs. The shot had been hers.
“Police Sister, Yang Mi is yours!” Tang Chen had countless questions in his mind, but now was not the time for talk. He darted forward and slammed his knee squarely into Mo Gui’s face. Mo Gui flew backwards.
Liu Yanran quickly rushed over to Yang Mi and started untying her restraints.
“Take me down with you? Fuck you motherfucker!” Tang Chen charged again, kicking Mo Gui hard in the chest. He hauled him up and unleashed hundreds of furious punches into his stomach. As Mo Gui spat blood, Tang Chen grabbed his head and smashed it forcefully against the wall.
Bang!
“Ha!” Tang Chen let out a fierce shout, hurling Mo Gui’s body to the ground. He followed up with a brutal kick to Mo Gui’s head. Mo Gui’s eyes rolled up, and he lost consciousness.
“Tang Chen. Waaah!” Yang Mi burst into tears. She threw her arms around him, clutching tightly. With the danger over and her frayed nerves finally relaxing, she couldn’t hold back the heartbreaking sobs.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, it’s all over now. Don’t cry, don’t cry,” Tang Chen said tenderly, his heart aching. He gently rubbed her head, planted several kisses on her cheek, and softly comforted her.
Beside them, Liu Yanran suddenly felt like an outsider. Feeling awkward, she turned her head away.
After a minute, Yang Mi regained some composure. Tang Chen helped her up and turned to Liu Yanran with gratitude. “Police Sister, thank you so much this time. How did you find this place?”
Liu Yanran replied cautiously, “This isn’t the place for explanations. Let’s talk outside.”
Tang Chen grunted an agreement. Remembering something, he added, “Police Sister, could you please take my wife outside first? I need to destroy the leftover glucose in the hospital and deal with this guy to stop him hurting anyone else.”
Yang Mi grabbed Tang Chen’s hand, stubbornly protesting, “No, Tang Chen! I want to go out with you. I won’t leave you here alone.”
Tang Chen pinched her cheek affectionately and chuckled. “It’s fine, really. The main danger is over; this is just clean-up. You go on out, be good. I’ll be right behind you.”
Yang Mi blinked, hesitating for a long moment before saying, “Alright. That’s how it’ll be. But you must come out quickly.” She stood on tiptoes and gave him a firm kiss on the lips.
Tang Chen’s face flushed red. He coughed lightly. “Okay, okay, save the affection for home. Police Sister is still here. Sorry to trouble you, Police Sister.”
Liu Yanran rolled her eyes internally, her lips twitching. She nodded. “Be careful then. We’ll wait for you outside.” She and Yang Mi walked out.
The smile vanished from Tang Chen’s face. He turned back to Mo Gui, his voice icy. “You bastard. Young Master sends you to hell right now.” He aimed another vicious kick at Mo Gui’s head.
At that critical moment, danger struck. Mo Gui, seemingly unconscious, suddenly snapped his eyes open! He wrapped his arms around Tang Chen’s leg and threw him heavily to the floor. Rolling away swiftly, he snatched up the remote control, leapt back up, and locked his limbs around Tang Chen’s neck in a tight hold.
“I spared your woman,” Mo Gui hissed in Tang Chen’s ear. “But you? You’re coming to hell with me!” He slammed his thumb down on the detonator.
BOOM!
A deafening explosion shattered the night. The two women, now outside the hospital, spun around just as a colossal fireball erupted behind them, lighting up the entire darkness.
The two-story hospital was engulfed in thunderous roars. Walls crumpled and collapsed. In less than thirty seconds, it was reduced to a pile of smoldering rubble and debris. A massive mushroom cloud billowed into the sky. The shockwave blasted Liu Yanran and Yang Mi several meters backwards, sending them sprawling violently onto the ground.
“TANG CHEN!” Yang Mi shrieked, instant tears flooding down her face. She scrambled wildly towards the inferno.
“Don’t go! Don’t! It’s too dangerous!” Liu Yanra cried out, her own eyes blurring with hot tears, overcome with pain. Yet she threw herself forward, wrapping her arms tightly around Yang Mi to hold her back.
“Tang Chen! TANG CHEN!” Yang Mi was pinned beneath Liu Yanra, her beautiful face pressed into the dirt, becoming smudged and filthy. She looked utterly wretched, screaming Tang Chen’s name over and over, feeling like her heart was being torn apart inside her chest.
Tang Chen was dead? Truly dead? The question screamed unanswered in Yang Mi’s mind. The desperate, hysterical sound of her wails perfectly captured her utter despair.
“Wife!” A familiar, laughing voice cut through the air. Yang Mi froze as if struck by lightning. Whipping her head around, she saw Tang Chen standing perfectly unharmed behind her.
“Tang Chen!” Yang Mi burst into fresh, huge sobs. She scrambled to her feet, rushed towards him, and slapped him hard across the face.
“Why did you scare me like that?! Do you know how worried I was?! What would I do if you died!?”
SLAP!
“Tang Chen, I love you!” Yang Mi screamed between the slap and the declaration. She threw herself at him, locking her arms around his neck and kissing him fiercely and desperately. The relief of getting him back made her lose control completely.
Tang Chen returned her passion fervently, holding her close and kissing her deeply, utterly ignoring the presence of Liu Yanran.
Liu Yanran silently wiped her own tears away. Why did her heart ache so much?
Half an hour later, Tang Chen and Yang Mi sat in Liu Yanran’s police car heading back. Exhausted from the ordeal, Yang Mi fell into a deep sleep almost immediately. Liu Yanran glanced at Tang Chen and asked the burning question, “Tang Chen, how did you escape back there?”
Liu Yanran was deeply curious. How had Tang Chen survived that massive explosion unscathed, showing up moments later to even share a ten-minute-long make-out session? Was he some kind of superhero?
Tang Chen, naturally, wasn’t a superhero. The moment Mo Gui triggered the bomb, the System automatically took over Tang Chen’s body. It effortlessly flung Mo Gui away like a piece of sticky candy. In the split-second Mo Gui pressed the button, Tang Chen was hurled backwards through the window. As for why the explosion didn’t harm him? That was simple: the System automatically activated its defenses. The blast simply had no effect on him.
Of course, Tang Chen couldn’t reveal any of this. He just forced a laugh and said vaguely, “Ah, nothing special. Managed to run out at the last second. Sometimes speed wins the day.”
Liu Yanra’s face darkened. She could tell he was dodging the question. The explosion had happened in under ten seconds. How fast could he possibly be to get clear? Did he think he was Bolt?
Tang Chen turned the question on her. “Police Sister, you still haven’t told me how you found this place. Weren’t you supposed to be waiting for me?”
Liu Yanra replied with clear annoyance, “You dare ask? Because you didn’t show up, I waited pointlessly outside! Seriously, what happened? How did you even get your wife dragged into all this?”
At the question, Tang Chen’s eyes turned cold. “Those idiots barged into my house. They kidnapped Yang Mi right in front of me. Luckily, it’s over now. Though cleaning up this mess will probably be a headache for you police.”
Liu Yanra sighed heavily. “A headache? More like a migraine! So much has happened recently, it’s overwhelming. Seriously, can you please cause fewer problems? Seems like every major incident lately has your finger on it!”
Tang Chen shrugged, adopting an infuriatingly casual tone. “Not my problem. They started it with me. I’m not some troublemaker.”
Liu Yanra felt a wave of disbelief wash over her, but she held back any further comment.
Liu Yanra dropped Tang Chen and Yang Mi off at their home. She declined Tang Chen’s offer of late-night food and hurried back to the Police Station. It was almost certainly mayhem there right now.
Tang Chen carried Yang Mi to their bed, carefully removing her shoes and tucking her in. She was deeply shaken by the day’s events. Rest was what she needed most.
The night passed quietly.
The next day, a major news story broke in the city: an explosion at an abandoned hospital in the south suburbs, officially attributed to an operational error. The hospital, officials confirmed, was now completely flattened.
This official explanation didn’t fool the smart people. The hospital had been deserted for ages; there was simply no one operating anything inside it. How could a human error cause such a blast? Some even sensed that something distinctly unusual was going down.
