Chapter 174: Scamming With a Dog’s Tooth
Chapter 174: Scamming With a Dog’s Tooth
Did I hit someone? Tang Chen was alarmed. He immediately opened the car door and stepped out. An elderly woman in her fifties was sitting on the ground in front of his car, groaning in pain.
“Are you alright, ma’am?” Feeling guilty since he was at fault, Tang Chen quickly crouched down. A closer look shocked him—the old woman’s mouth was full of blood.
“Ouch… Young man, how do you drive? You nearly killed me… Ah, my tooth!” The woman slurred her words as she touched her mouth. She spat out a sharp, pointed tooth.
“Young man, you were driving too fast. You knocked my tooth right out! What are you going to do about this?” When she spoke, a distinct gap appeared among her already sparse teeth. Blood trickled down, looking as if she’d just lost a tooth.
“Grandma, I’m truly sorry. I’ll take you to the hospital right now. I’ll bear full responsibility.” Tang Chen wasn’t the type to shirk responsibility. As he helped her up, he glanced at the tooth in her hand. Hang on—that doesn’t look like a human tooth at all!
“No need for the hospital. I’m going to pick up my grandson. Just compensate me for medical expenses,” the old woman quickly waved her hand, refusing Tang Chen’s offer.
Her unusual reaction, combined with that strange tooth, made Tang Chen instantly suspicious. Had he encountered one of those infamous scam artists you hear about?
China boasts thousands of years of vibrant culture and countless traditions. But with a large pool comes all kinds of fish. Greed stirred in human hearts, and in recent years, a new force—the scam artists—had risen to rival even the mighty city management squads!
Most of them were elderly folks in their forties or fifties. They haunted busy street corners, targeting fancy cars. Using practiced techniques and incredibly poor acting skills, they faked being hit by vehicles. Their goal? Money, pure and simple.
“Grandma, this tooth doesn’t seem quite right. Human teeth aren’t usually this long,” Tang Chen said. He’d been panicked earlier, but now he took a good look. Damn it! Isn’t this a dog’s tooth?
Clearly a seasoned scammer, the old woman didn’t flinch. “Young man, what do you mean by that? You knocked out this tooth! Are you trying to deny responsibility? What has this society come to?”
Tang Chen frowned, his voice dripping with disdain. “Society became like this because of filthy scammers like you! Trying to cheat me, huh? Fine. Let’s see if you’re long-lived enough to pull it off!”
Since he’d pegged her as a scammer relying on her age to bully others and lacking all dignity, Tang Chen knew fear would only encourage her.
He turned, got back in his car, stepped on the gas, and the headlights of his Extravagant Battle Car flared. He drove straight toward her!
“Heavens!” The old woman had probably never encountered anything this wild. She leaped away in sheer terror, moving surprisingly fast.
That little scam episode was just a small blip. When Tang Chen got home, Yang Mi was watching an idol drama on TV—You From the Pit Toilet, written by the famous Zhao Xiaoxiao.
Glancing at the screen, Tang Chen said, “Wife, one of my underlings is getting married the day after tomorrow. Come with me.”
“Sure,” Yang Mi chirped happily. “I’ve never seen a real wedding before. Feels a little exciting just thinking about it.”
Tang Chen chuckled, scooping her onto his lap. “Why get so excited about that? If you want to get married, I’ll marry you anytime. It’s no big deal.”
“Dream on! I never said I’d marry you,” Yang Mi retorted, rolling her charming eyes. She was used to Tang Chen’s ego by now.
While they joked, neither noticed a tiny red light blinking at the top of the sofa. Zoom out to a basement beneath a villa. A man sat like a spy from a thrilling movie, wearing headphones as if listening intently.
He removed the headphones and pulled out his mobile phone. Dialing a number, he spoke respectfully: “Young Master, there’s a perfect opportunity to strike in two days. Do we proceed?”
Silence hung on the line before a cold voice answered: “Prepare everything. Kill him.” Click. The line went dead.
The man smiled, turning on a nearby light to reveal a ruthless face. “Tang Chen,” he snarled each word, “you destroyed my casino last time. This time, just watch you die!” With that, he ripped the sleeve off his left arm, exposing a tattoo: a single character—’Mo’.
Unaware danger crept closer yet again, Tang Chen woke early the next morning. Yang Mi insisted they head to School. She argued that they’d skipped class for days already and shouldn’t do so again. Tang Chen couldn’t win against her and had to obediently go to class.
His Extravagant Battle Car executed a slick sliding stop inside the School grounds. To prevent any escape attempts, Yang Mi dragged Tang Chen all the way to the classroom, sat him down, and declared she’d watch him closely all day.
Tang Chen sighed. Yang Mi was wonderful in every way—except how strict she was with him. Unable to dodge class, he simply slumped on his desk and went to sleep.
The other students stared like they’d seen a ghost. Young Master Tang attending class? Unprecedented! Guess the power of love truly was something.
“This class has a pop quiz! Everyone take it seriously, no cheating. Show your true abilities,” the history teacher announced cheerfully as he entered with test papers. The devastating news: a class test!
As the teacher started handing out papers, Yang Mi gently nudged Tang Chen. “Tang Chen, wake up. It’s test time. Come on.”
Tang Chen opened groggy eyes, scratching his head irritably. “A test? Well, you just do your best, wife. I need the loo.” He stood up casually.
“Tang Chen! You jerk!” Yang Mi grinded her teeth in frustration. That “loo” excuse was clearly just a way to escape the test! She’d make him pay when they got home tonight.
Tang Chen strolled out blatantly. The idea of taking a test? Utterly beneath someone of his magnificence!
He pondered, then messaged the System internally: “Oi, System, say… If I go pick fights in random classrooms right now, do you think it might trigger a Mission?”
The System sounded exasperated: “Esteemed Host, please refrain from making such brainless remarks. You being brainless is one thing. Must our intelligent System be dragged down to your level?”
Tang Chen’s cheek twitched. His cunning ploy was seen through. Hmph. Tricking the System wasn’t as easy as he’d thought.
“Get lost! Is the Zhongmen Society so special?” Passing one classroom, Tang Chen suddenly heard angry shouting inside. A scrawny boy was being shoved back and forth by two burly thugs.
Normally, Tang Chen wouldn’t care. Every class had a target like this. But what the bullies said made Tang Chen see red. Everyone knew the Zhongmen Society was under his protection! Disrespecting them was a direct challenge to his authority!
BANG!
Without hesitation, Tang Chen kicked the door open. He stepped in, voice icy. “You two idiots feeling tough, huh? Look down on the Zhongmen Society, do you? Wanna bet I rip your mouths off?”
His sudden entrance made the entire class jump. One look at him sent shivers down their spines—it was Young Master Tang!
“Young Master Tang!” The bleeding boy approached. Blood streaked his face. Behind his glasses, he looked polite and bookish—utterly unlike someone involved in gangs.
“Stand aside,” Tang Chen ordered coldly. He was annoyed too—this kid hadn’t even fought back after being hit.
