Chapter 167: Invincible Cloak? No, Invisibility Cloak!
Chapter 167: Invincible Cloak? No, Invisibility Cloak!
Tang Chen never expected so much had happened during his single night away. He comforted Yang Mi, telling her not to worry, while opening the file folder. After reading the documents inside, he punched the table in anger.
“That bastard Li Zheyu is practically begging to die!” Tang Chen said coldly. Most readers had probably forgotten about Li Zheyu. That idiot was the same guy who showed up at Yang Mi’s home last time with his mom to collect rent. Tang Chen had taught him a lesson back then and given him a million yuan just to make him leave.
That whole situation should have been over. But Tang Chen never dreamed this idiot, together with his mother, would actually sue Yang Mi’s family. Not just that—they also sued Tang Chen himself, accusing him of threats and intimidation.
This crossed the line. Dammit, he hadn’t killed Li Zheyu earlier only because he didn’t want to look too vicious in front of Yang Mi’s mom. And now, after taking the money, this idiot dared to sue him? Looking for death wasn’t supposed to be this direct.
“Hey, Yang Mi,” Tang Chen suddenly remembered. “Didn’t I make him write a receipt last time? That receipt would prove they weren’t owed any rent. With that receipt, they’d lose the case for sure, right?”
Yang Mi smiled bitterly. “It’s useless. I gave that receipt to my mom for safekeeping. Yesterday, she told me our house got robbed. Over a thousand yuan was stolen, and along with it, the receipt disappeared.”
“Damn, the Li mother and son definitely did this!” Tang Chen swore angrily. Those two idiots were actually quite clever. Thinking about it, if they didn’t have a good plan, how would they dare sue him?
“Yang Mi, don’t worry. Young Master will go teach that stupid mother-son pair a lesson right now.” Tang Chen said furiously. Now he felt his earlier mercy had been a huge mistake. People like this deserved simply being wiped out.
“Don’t go, Tang Chen!” Yang Mi quickly grabbed his arm. “Li Zheyu and his mom used ‘fear of revenge’ as an excuse and got the Police to protect them. If you go now, you’d literally be walking into a trap!”
“Oh? Did that pair of idiots suddenly gain some brain cells?” Tang Chen honestly didn’t expect them to become so smart. They actually thought to get Police protection first. This meant he couldn’t act recklessly.
Yang Mi slumped into her chair, her eyes vacant. “Tang Chen, what do we do? The court date is tomorrow. If we really can’t turn things around… we’ll actually have to pay them two hundred and fifty thousand yuan.”
Tang Chen took her hand. “Don’t worry, Yang Mi. One day is still plenty of time. This Young Master absolutely won’t allow random nobodies to bully me or your family. Call your dad back home now. I’ll handle finding a lawyer. This time, I will make sure that Li family mother and son suffer.”
Yang Mi trusted Tang Chen unconditionally. She nodded. “Tang Chen, thank goodness you’re still here with me. Otherwise… I truly wouldn’t know what to do.”
Tang Chen gave an affirmative sound, reassured her a few more times, and walked out of the Supermarket. The situation was urgent; he needed a plan, and fast.
“System, you’re all-powerful. Any bright ideas?” Tang Chen instinctively asked the System, his usual trouble-solving instinct kicking in.
The “System” replied: “Respected Host, you have handled many things independently so far. This System believes my assistance isn’t needed this time either. You can certainly achieve victory flawlessly.”
Tang Chen curled his lip. “Useless System,” he grumbled silently. Clearly, the System had no actual ideas but framed it like praise.
Tang Chen pressed his temples with his fingers, then pulled out his Mobile Phone and dialed Boss Pang. The call connected immediately.
“Young Master Tang, my name is Old Pang.” Boss Pang sounded utterly deferential, clearly valuing Tang Chen highly.
“Old Pang, do you know any famous, top-notch lawyers?” Tang Chen got straight to the point. After all those years in business, Old Pang likely had connections.
Boss Pang asked cautiously, “Young Master Tang, why the sudden need for a lawyer? Has something happened?”
Tang Chen didn’t hold back. He explained everything. “Old Pang, please find this city’s absolute best lawyer for this Young Master. Cost is irrelevant. Whatever it takes to win this case for me.”
Boss Pang gave a firm acknowledgment. “Since this concerns Young Master Tang, it also concerns Old Pang. I’ll do my absolute best. However… Young Master should prepare for other possibilities. Based on what you’ve told me, this case isn’t easy. The receipt is in Li Zheyu’s hands. If the other side point-blank refuses to admit taking your million yuan… you might still end up losing.”
Tang Chen certainly understood the risks. He coolly acknowledged the warning and ended the call.
“So annoying,” Tang Chen muttered, leaning back in the “Extravagant Battle Car”. He closed his eyes, thinking hard about the lawsuit. He absolutely could not lose. To avoid losing, he needed a last-ditch counterattack. Only one possibility existed for that: get the receipt back. Then he could slap them hard right in court.
The key was retrieving the receipt. The Police were watching Li Zheyu’s house. If he showed up, that mother-son pair would scream their heads off, claiming he’d come to attack them. That would create huge problems.
“System,” Tang Chen asked, forced once more to rely on the System. “Isn’t there any way for me to sneak into their house and get that receipt back without anyone knowing?”
The “System” replied with unnatural calm: “Respected Host, yesterday’s reward item actually serves this exact purpose. However, you did so hurry to put it away that you didn’t even check its instructions. This System feels quite helpless.”
Tang Chen was stunned. “You mean the Invincible Cloak? Why didn’t you say that earlier?! What the hell?!”
The “System” sounded extremely innocent: “Respected Host, that is not this System’s fault. You were simply in too much of a rush yesterday to ask. Would you like to view the Invincible Cloak’s instructions now?”
Tang Chen rolled his eyes. “Is that even a question? If that Invincible Cloak truly has that power, then Young Master actually has hope for this lawsuit!”
“Ding! Host viewing Invincible Cloak Instructions. Please read carefully: Invincible Cloak – A reward item obtainable only upon completing a High-level Mission. Outer appearance resembles a matador’s red cape. Upon use, the Host drapes the cloak casually over their body. Immediately gain Invisibility function. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Invisibility function cannot exceed thirty minutes.”
“Invisibility?!” Tang Chen was completely blown away. The corner of his mouth twitched with excitement. “You System… you’re not messing with me? I knew you were amazing… but this level is unbelievable!”
The “System” boasted proudly: “Respected Host, one reaps what one sows. You completed that High-level Mission at risk of your life. Therefore, the rewards for that High-level Mission are unexpectedly magnificent. The Invincible Cloak is nothing. Once you complete the Ultimate Mission later, you’ll understand… the Invincible Cloak is actually very… trash-tier.”
Tang Chen felt his heart pounding furiously. An invisibility cloak… dismissed as trash by the System? Just how many more incredible things did this System even have? He couldn’t wait to trigger that Ultimate Mission.
“System, enough chit-chat,” Tang Chen declared. “Young Master is heading to Li Zheyu’s house right now. Reward me with the Invincible Cloak when I arrive. This time, I must thoroughly deal with this idiot.”
Not wanting to waste time, he returned to the Supermarket to inform Yang Mi, then set off toward Li Zheyu’s home.
Li Zheyu’s family lived fairly close to Yang Mi’s, also running a small store. They lived in a two-story house. Tang Chen arrived at a small path behind their house. Scanning the area and finding no one, he hurriedly thought:
“Alright System, hurry up, reward Young Master with that cloak already!”
“Ding! System rewards ‘Invincible Cloak’ item. Please retrieve it host.”
The System was fast. A flash of red light appeared—Tang Chen felt his pocket grow warm. He reached in and pulled out a vibrant, eye-catching red cloak.
The cloak looked epic, like something a superhero might wear. And bold on its back: the large character “Diao” (meaning something like ‘badass’), instantly pushing its coolness factor through the roof.
Tang Chen didn’t hesitate. He simply threw the cloak over his shoulders.
Something magical happened.
He… and the cloak… completely disappeared right on the spot.
He had entered Invisibility mode.
