Chapter 149: Liu Yanran’s Mission

Tang Chen shrugged helplessly. He felt so innocent! It was the police sister’s own dirty mind that had gone off track. What was wrong with girls nowadays? Why were their heads full of such dirty thoughts?

“That simple?” Liu Yanran took several deep breaths again. She nearly lost her temper with Tang Chen.

Tang Chen made an affirmative noise. His young face leaned a little closer to Liu Yanran. He looked completely innocent and harmless: “It really is that simple. I never asked you to do anything hard.”

Liu Yanran gritted her teeth and said, “Fine. I can accept that.”

Tang Chen made another affirmative noise and stood up, saying, “Good, then that’s settled. I’ll help you with this task. Send me the address when it’s time tonight, and I’ll go straight there.”

Liu Yanran said in surprise, “Aren’t you even going to ask what it’s about?”

Tang Chen waved a hand dismissively. “No need. I’m very busy. We’ll contact each other by phone when the time comes. See you later, Police Sister.” With that, he turned around and walked out of the café coolly.

Liu Yanran stared blankly at his retreating figure, infuriated. This guy really didn’t take her seriously at all! She’d gone to so much trouble to ask him out, yet he rushed off like that. And worse! That jerk didn’t even pay the bill!

Tang Chen left the café and first went to the hospital to check on Fang Wenxin’s condition. Fang Wenxin was already awake now, which Tang Chen felt quite relieved about.

Having nothing else to do, Tang Chen then went to the school. He pulled up a chair and sat down right next to Yang Mi. Even the teacher lecturing at the front of the classroom looked completely shocked. Tang Chen completely ignored him now.

“Tang Chen, you’re back?” Yang Mi instantly smiled cheerfully the moment she saw him sit next to her, her expression showing a level of happiness that anyone would envy.

Tang Chen made an affirmative noise. He ruffled her hair and said, “I felt bad leaving you here all alone suffering under the teacher’s brain-killing lecture music. Felt too guilty. So I came to keep you company.”

Yang Mi giggled softly. She poked one finger at Tang Chen’s chest repeatedly and said in a playful, slightly complaining tone, “You always talk like that. The teacher will get angry.”

Tang Chen just laughed. Then he grasped the back of her neck with one hand and brought his lips down on hers. With that, the two proceeded to kiss right before everyone else as if nobody else was there…

The teacher looked utterly stunned but didn’t dare reprimand them. He kept lecturing: “Edison was one of the greatest inventors, he…”

When the bell rang for the end of class, the students were about to leave. Suddenly, however, a male teacher walked in. Tang Chen recognized him; he was the Physical Education teacher for their class.

“Students!” the P.E. teacher said smiling kindly. “I’ll just borrow a few minutes of your time to announce something.”

Tang Chen glanced down at his mobile phone and immediately said, “Teacher, please be quick. This Young Master is in a hurry to get home.”

The P.E. teacher gave a quick, compliant affirmative noise and then spoke with forced enthusiasm, “Students! Good news! The annual school athletic meet is coming up! I hope everyone will actively sign up to participate and win a good place for our class!” The P.E. teacher spoke tersely; perhaps worried Tang Chen might get irritated, he finished and left in under twenty seconds.

Tang Chen took Yang Mi home. Yang Mi cooked them both a warm dinner. Tang Chen told her he had something to do that night and would have to go out; he might be back very late. Yang Mi felt a little anxious about it, but she couldn’t stop him. Evening came, and it was 8:15 PM.

Yang Mi always went to bed early, so she slept soundly. Tang Chen sat in the living room watching TV when his mobile phone rang. He carefully answered. “Police Sister,” he whispered with a chuckle, “you finally called me! If you’d been any later, I’d have gone to sleep myself.”

The other end sounded noisy, like there was extremely loud music playing.

“Tang Chen,” Liu Yanran’s voice came over the phone. “I’m at Night Charm Bar now. Come join me.”

Tang Chen felt very puzzled. What kind of police mission required going to a bar? But he didn’t dwell on it. He got into his car and drove straight there.

When he got inside Night Charm Bar, the deafening music gave him a headache. He was about to take out his mobile phone and call Liu Yanran to ask where she was. Then he reconsidered: the music was so loud. Even if he called, she probably couldn’t hear it.

“Handsome,” a woman’s voice suddenly whispered, full of seduction. An intense cloud of heavy perfume perfume irritated his nose. He’d just sat down at the bar counter, hoping for a quiet moment!

Tang Chen frowned. He hated women in bars who hooked rich guys like this. Just as he turned to dismiss the woman, however, seeing her face left him utterly stunned.

“Sister Yanran?” Tang Chen blurted, staring in shock. “Why are you dressed like this?” Genuine surprise flashed in his eyes. Standing behind him was Liu Yanran. Today, she dressed like Queen. A skin-tight leather top. A leather skirt ending just above her knees left incredibly long, beautiful legs completely exposed. She wore high-heeled leather boots. Light makeup enhanced her features into an expression of sheer allure.

Liu Yanran gave a playful, teasing laugh. “Why? Can’t I dress like this?”

Tang Chen continued to stare, spellbound. This Liu Yanran didn’t look at all like the violent policewoman he knew. She looked every inch like a party girl — one experienced at nightclubs, the kind of ripe, juicy beauty whose looks and body could trigger a potentially dangerous surge in a guy’s… well, his… adrenaline.

“No, I just think it’s strange!” Tang Chen said, sounding bewildered and slightly exasperated. “Wasn’t I called here to help you? Did you just want me here to watch how you hook up with rich guys at the bar?” He genuinely couldn’t understand how this version of her linked to a mission.

Liu Yanran rolled her eyes at him. Then, deliberately, she sat right next to him — very close, their bodies almost touching. She leaned in and whispered, “You wouldn’t understand. This is my mission. We got a tip that this place provides… sex services… and sells ecstasy pills. So, I dressed like this. I want to see if I can coax some clues about this place out of the staff. We’re trying to shut down their entire operation.” Her intense closeness made Tang Chen’s heartbeat suddenly accelerate. It also caused… well… something down there to… stir with strong interest.

“Ohhh,” Tang Chen breathed, finally understanding. He nodded. “So… basically… you plan to seduce information out of the staff? But you’re worried about those guys trying to actually grope you? And since you’re working undercover, you can’t just hit them? So… you called me here? To pretend to be your date? You’re using me as your… cover?”

Liu Yanran let out a light, almost siren-like laugh. She actually gave him a seductive wink. “Exactly! I suddenly realize how clever you are.”

Tang Chen’s mouth twitched. “Stop winking,” he managed to say, his voice tight. “If you wink at me like that again, something really… intense… might… uh… happen… down below.”

Liu Yanran’s face went crimson instantly. Maybe because she’d also been drinking a little, the flush was even deeper. Incredibly tempting!

Tang Chen quickly changed the subject. Speaking softly, he moved slightly away from her – she was like human pheromones to him right now! Getting too close risked him acting like a total beast! “So, Police Sister… did you find out anything yet?”

Liu Yanran looked dejected. “No,” she sighed. “No one’s approached me. I don’t know how to just… ask one of the staff, either. That’s why I was waiting here… for you.”

Tang Chen couldn’t help but smile a little, though his expression was also one of slight exasperation. Police Sister clearly had a smart mind for investigations… it was the implementation that needed work! He slipped an arm around her waist. Liu Yanran gave a startled little gasp, but Tang Chen quickly cut off any protest: “The only way you’re completing this mission tonight,” he said firmly, “is if you do exactly what I say.” And with that, he led her with dominant confidence straight into the middle of the crowded dance floor.

Tang Chen knew helping Liu Yanran meant taking action. More interestingly… this seemed like a golden chance to trigger his own task. Two achievements with one move!

His eyes scanned the place. He immediately spotted a male staff member emerging from a private room. Taking Liu Yanran with him, Tang Chen approached the man. He got straight to the point: “Hey Bro. Give me some stuff.”

The waiter paused briefly before he offered a polite service smile. “Sir,” he began smoothly, “if you’d like a beverage, you can order at the bar counter. There’s a bartender there…”

Tang Chen waved dismissively. “Forget the liquor, useless stuff! Look,” he gestured expansively at Liu Yanran beside him. “See this hot girl here? Nice looking, right?”
