Chapter 123: Governor Ha Gives In
Chapter 123: Governor Ha Gives In
After the incident, Tang Chen and Yang Mi walked out of the basketball court side by side. Yang Mi seemed a bit unhappy, probably because Tang Chen’s earlier actions had made her uncomfortable. After all, not everyone could stay calm after witnessing Tang Chen do such things.
Just moments ago, Tang Chen had made Fang Haijun and Yan Siqin run naked across the basketball court in front of everyone, damn it. Some people probably already saw Tang Chen as a demon in their hearts, since few normal people would do something like that.
But in Tang Chen’s eyes, it was almost childish. After all, not killing Yan Siqin was already quite lenient. If it weren’t for completing the System’s mission, Tang Chen would probably have already eliminated Yan Siqin outright. In his mind, anyone who offended his woman deserved to die.
“Yang Mi, do you think what I did was a bit too much?” Tang Chen gently grabbed Yang Mi’s small hand and asked with a smile.
Yang Mi did not argue, but she did not directly agree either. She said, “I know you wanted to stand up for me. Actually, after being with you for so long, I can understand most of what you do.”
Tang Chen smiled, then stopped walking and looked at her seriously. “I’m glad you understand, Yang Mi. I want you to know: no matter what I do, it’s for your own good. Do you understand?”
Yang Mi hummed in agreement, her unhappiness vanishing completely. She said sweetly, “I understand, Tang Chen. You don’t need to explain so much to me. I am your woman, so of course I’m on your side.”
Tang Chen was once again moved by this young woman’s heartfelt confession. Then he grinned mischievously and said, “Yang Mi, do you remember what I told you before the match started?”
Yang Mi was stunned for a moment, then immediately recalled Tang Chen’s words about “seven times in one night.” Her face instantly turned bright red. Without saying a word, she lightly hit Tang Chen. Their tender feelings were conveyed in that silent moment.
Tang Chen laughed heartily once more, feeling satisfied. Teasing this easily embarrassed young woman was the most fun. Although Tang Chen really wanted to be with Yang Mi, he didn’t feel like a desperate hungry ghost. Instead, he left the school with Yang Mi and wandered around outside.
The System had already reminded him in his heart that he completed the mission. This put Tang Chen much more at ease, since he didn’t want to constantly worry about when the System might trick him while he was doing other things.
Tang Chen and Yang Mi first went to Junyue Grand Hotel. There, Tang Chen saw a familiar person: Xiao Ruiqi.
“Sister Xiao!” Tang Chen called out as soon as he entered Junyue. The employees around, upon seeing Tang Chen arrive, each bowed and greeted him as “Young Master Tang.”
Xiao Ruiqi, now wearing a black uniform, was the lobby manager of Junyue. When she heard someone call her, she turned around and saw Tang Chen’s youthful, smiling face.
“Young Master Tang!” Xiao Ruiqi called out happily and walked toward Tang Chen. For this Young Master Tang, who had shown her great kindness and helped her start anew, Xiao Ruiqi felt genuine joy and respect from the bottom of her heart.
Tang Chen responded with a casual “Hmm” and looked Xiao Ruiqi over. Her appearance had undergone a tremendous change. Coupled with her time at Junyue, her temperament had completely transformed. Compared to her previous rustic, migrant-worker look, this Xiao Ruiqi now appeared more fashionable and intellectual.
“Sister Xiao, you look much better like this,” Tang Chen said boldly after looking her over, then offered a compliment.
Xiao Ruiqi’s face turned red. Being from the countryside, she couldn’t handle Tang Chen’s intense gaze. She simply hummed in acknowledgment and didn’t say anything more.
“Tang Chen, who is this sister?” Yang Mi spoke up at this moment. When she looked at Xiao Ruiqi, there was a hint of wariness in her eyes. Could this be a mistress Tang Chen found outside?
Tang Chen, who had rather low emotional intelligence, didn’t notice Yang Mi’s expression turn slightly cold. He continued explaining, “Oh, wife, let me introduce you. This is Sister Xiao. I brought her back from the construction site. Now she should be the front desk manager of our grand hotel. Sister Xiao, this is my wife.”
Wife? He already had a wife? A faint, inexplicable discomfort suddenly arose in Xiao Ruiqi’s heart. It felt strange, yet somehow inevitable.
Yang Mi had now grown accustomed to Tang Chen calling her that. She stepped forward and took Xiao Ruiqi’s hand, saying, “Sister Xiao, don’t listen to his nonsense. I’m his girlfriend. Since you are Tang Chen’s sister, you are also my sister. Hello, Sister Xiao.”
She deliberately emphasized the word “sister.” Xiao Ruiqi immediately understood: it seemed Yang Mi saw her as a potential love rival. Smiling, she said, “Miss Yang, you are Young Master Tang’s girlfriend, so you could be considered my mistress. I dare not presume to be your sister.”
Tang Chen waved his hand dismissively. “What’s there to dare or not dare? There’s nothing wrong with calling each other sisters. Sister Xiao, my wife has a good temper. She won’t mind, and you shouldn’t mind either. You are my sister, after all. Just call each other sisters.”
Neither Yang Mi nor Xiao Ruiqi had many objections and casually agreed. At that moment, Boss Pang got the news and hurried over, saying he had something to report to Tang Chen. So the two men went upstairs to the office, leaving Xiao Ruiqi and Yang Mi alone downstairs. Although the two women seemed to be chatting happily on the surface, Yang Mi’s inner vigilance did not lessen.
“Ruiqi, I bought you something. Have some. Oh, you have a friend here. Would you like to have some too?” Xiao Kuan, wearing a security guard uniform, came over at that moment, holding char siu buns in his hand.
Normally, security guards weren’t allowed to leave their posts during work hours. But both he and Xiao Ruiqi were personally appointed by Tang Chen. After Manager Pang explained the situation, no one objected anymore.
Xiao Ruiqi said somewhat awkwardly, “Big Brother Xiao Kuan, we’re still working.”
Xiao Kuan smiled honestly. “It’s fine. Have some. The boss won’t scold us.”
Yang Mi interjected at this point, “Sister Xiao, is this big brother your boyfriend?”
Xiao Ruiqi shook her head. “He’s not my boyfriend. We used to work at the same construction site, and we’re from the same hometown.”
Xiao Ruiqi didn’t notice that after she said this, the smile in Xiao Kuan’s eyes instantly vanished.
Meanwhile, Tang Chen was listening to Boss Pang report on the hotel’s recent revenue and other matters. Boss Pang talked on and on without stopping, but Tang Chen usually hated this kind of nagging, monotonous speech.
If Boss Pang weren’t reporting on Junyue’s situation and the construction progress of the new hotel on that piece of land, Tang Chen would probably have already thrown a bottle at him.
Just as Tang Chen was forcing himself to keep listening, his mobile phone suddenly rang. Tang Chen picked it up and saw it was Liu Yanran calling. The corners of his mouth lifted: since Liu Yanran was calling him, it meant Governor Ha had definitely given in and apologized.
“Old Pang, hold on for a moment.” After saying this to Boss Pang, Tang Chen slowly answered the call. As soon as the call connected, Liu Yanran asked with concern, “Tang Chen, are you okay?”
Tang Chen said cheerfully, “Of course I’m fine. First, tell me the situation. Did Governor Ha go to apologize to you?”
Liu Yanran said admiringly, “Tang Chen, I really don’t know how you managed it. Governor Ha called Uncle Chen and me to the municipal government today and apologized to us in front of many people.”
This is what happened: Liu Yanran was working at the police station in the morning, feeling worried, when she received a call from the provincial government asking her to come. Liu Yanran guessed it was probably Governor Ha summoning her, but she didn’t know exactly why. Not daring to delay, she went out, took a car, and headed to the provincial government.
In a spacious office at the provincial government, she unexpectedly found Chen Mingdi already sitting there. When he saw Liu Yanran come in, he also looked confused. The two exchanged a few words and realized they had both been inexplicably summoned by a direct call from provincial government staff.
They had been sitting for less than ten minutes when the door opened directly. A large group of journalists with cameras and microphones entered first. Then Governor Ha and Madame Ha walked in, surrounded by the crowd.
