“Hello, Madame Ha,” Liu Yanran greeted politely. Since she was the wife of that person, she was basically her boss’s boss. No wonder even someone like Chen Mingdi treated her with such deference. A higher rank really crushes people!

But Madame Ha seemed to be in a bad mood. Her face cold, she snapped, “I am not well! Do you even realize those gunshots just now might’ve put my son in danger? Old Ha and I only have this one son. If anything happens to him, you can all wait to be buried with him!”

Liu Yanran was still confused. Chen Mingdi then explained to her in a low voice, “This is what happened, Yanran. This morning, we received a report. A group claiming to be kidnappers said they took Young Master Ha hostage and demanded thirty million for the exchange at Longjing Park. We were just setting up an ambush, waiting for them to show up. Then we heard that gunshot.”

Liu Yanran finally understood. What an unfortunate coincidence! Though she disliked Madame Ha’s arrogant attitude, the incident had been their doing. She swallowed her anger.

“I’m so sorry, Madame Ha!” Liu Yanran quickly apologized. “We truly didn’t mean any harm. We saw a strange man knock over a little boy and run. I chased him but couldn’t catch up. My friend then kicked him into the river, and for some reason, he fired his gun. Even though it wasn’t deliberate, it happened because of us. I want to join your search and capture the criminal myself to make amends.”

Her words were as reasonable and gracious as anyone could expect. Anyone with sense would have accepted the apology and let it go. After all, Liu Yanran hadn’t known; ignorance should pardon her. She deserved an easy way out.

But Madame Ha had no such intention. Instead, she erupted angrily, “Who do you think you are? Hah! You make amends? What could you possibly repay us with? Do you know how precious our Young Ha’s life is? And you’ll help us catch him? A useless vase like you—all you have is a pretty face! If trash like you were needed to catch criminals, all the police in the province should’ve dropped dead ages ago!”

Her rant was wild and vitriolic, spittle flying everywhere. Not only did it leave Liu Yanran deeply hurt, but even Chen Mingdi was visibly displeased.

Yes, her husband might be the top provincial leader, but that didn’t give her the right to insult them like this—much less declare the police should die! Damn her!

“Madame Ha, there were understandable circumstances. We implore you to calm down,” Chen Mingdi interjected. He believed Liu Yanran was blameless. This wretched woman was just stirring trouble for no reason!

“Understandable? Director Chen, I call you ‘Director’ to save your face. Don’t just defend this little slut because she’s your friend’s relative! What? You want to sleep with her, is that it? Figures. Dirty old men like you always prey on younger women!” Madame Ha was cursing recklessly. Presumably, her son’s kidnapping had driven her past reason. She didn’t even think—even as the top leader’s wife, spewing such poisonous words? If they spread, how long would her husband last in his post?

“Madame Ha, please show some respect!” Liu Yanran was now fully enraged. This old woman was despicable! She had apologized sincerely, yet Madame Ha remained aggressive. Was marrying a powerful man something so special?

“Respect your damn mother!” Madame Ha was truly a ‘fighter jet’ among shrews, firing off profanities without hesitation. She turned to Chen Mingdi, who was nearing his limit. “Director Chen! Have this woman arrested at once and brought to the provincial headquarters! I will personally interrogate her! I want to see what connection she has with the kidnappers who took my son! If you disobey me… I’ll expose your little infatuation with a female subordinate!”

“Enough!” Chen Mingdi finally exploded in a low roar. He couldn’t tolerate her nonsense any longer. “Madame Ha, I show you respect because of who your husband is. But earning respect requires you respect others FIRST! If you keep spouting this filthy trash… then I’m sorry. I, Chen Mingdi, cannot help you. And if you plan to make things difficult for me? I’m not afraid!”

“Mutiny! This is mutiny!” Madame Ha’s chubby face trembled with rage. “You all defy me? Fine! Don’t forget, I am the province’s—”

SLAP!

The sharp crack of a slap echoed. Tang Chen finally lost his patience. Honestly, the moment this old bitch cursed Liu Yanran, he’d wanted to act. But she was still that bastard’s wife, and with someone as high-ranking as the Bureau Chief here… Tang Chen could probably thrash her and escape unscathed. But what about Police Sister? He couldn’t be reckless without thinking of her!

After all, he started this trouble; he couldn’t just leave Liu Yanran to clean up his mess and take the blame. That would be too low.

“Tang Chen, you—!” Liu Yanran had to admit—seeing Madame Ha’s face redden and swell felt satisfying. But Tang Chen just slapped the Madame right in front of the Bureau Chief! Wasn’t that disastrous?

“Police Sister, stay out of it. I couldn’t stand this bitch anymore!” Tang Chen stepped in front of Liu Yanran. His crude choice of words nearly made both Chen Mingdi and the police laugh.

Calling Madame Ha ‘this bitch’? Probably only this young guy had the guts.

“You dare hit me? Do you know who I am?!” Madame Ha shrieked. It seemed years since anyone had slapped her.

“I don’t give a damn who you are! Insulting my Police Sister is asking for death!” Tang Chen snarled. He followed it with a vicious kick to her stomach, then grabbed her head and smashed her face repeatedly against his knee.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

The shocking violence stunned everyone. Was this kid crazy? This was Madame Ha!

“Tang Chen! Stop! Stop it now!” Liu Yanran yelled, trying to pull him back.

Chen Mingdi grabbed Tang Chen’s arm. “Young man, stop! I know she’s asking for it, but if you cause serious injury, you’ll face severe consequences too!”

“Whatever!” Tang Chen shook them both off. After a few more brutal face-smashes, he choked her throat and hissed coldly, “You goddamn bitch! How dare you insult my Police Sister? Did you eat crap before coming out? No! Your damn brain is crap, you old bitch! Police Sister and I saw a little boy get knocked down. We were TRYING to catch the jerk and make him apologize! Who the hell cares why that bastard fired a gun? Threatening that Police Sister will ‘pay dearly’ if your precious son gets scared? Pay hell! Is your son human? That little boy wasn’t? Young Master hits you because he honors you! Don’t you dare strut around flaunting that provincial bastard husband! Push me too far, Young Master, and I’ll wipe out your whole damn family!”

With that, Tang Chen swung Madame Ha’s body towards a trash can with all his strength. Incredibly, her head plunged straight into the bin, leaving her torso half inside and half sticking out.

The scene was absurdly comical. But Chen Mingdi and the officers stared in frozen shock. After a moment, Chen Mingdi yelled, “Why the hell are you just standing there? Pull Madame Ha out NOW!”

“Y-yes, sir!” The officers scrambled to rescue her.

Seeing Madame Ha cursed and beaten was cathartic for Chen Mingdi, but he worked for the provincial government. Return would be his doom.

“Young man, you’ve caused huge trouble! Yanran, why didn’t you stop him?” Chen Mingdi sighed as he walked over. Strangely, there was no anger towards Tang Chen—which actually made Tang Chen respect him more.

Liu Yanran smiled bitterly. “Uncle Chen, with how things were, could I really have held him back?”

Truth. When Tang Chen lost his temper, forget provincial officials—even the highest authority in Jingdu wouldn’t stop him. Er… well, maybe that scenario strained belief too much.

Tang Chen casually waved a hand. “Relax. It was just beating up a madwoman. Young Master fights every day. I’m used to it.”

Chen Mingdi and Liu Yanran’s jaws metaphorically dropped. Who ‘got used to’ beating people? And this particular ‘madwoman’ was no ordinary person! Why on earth hadn’t he thought of the consequences?
