Chapter 37: Stomach Ache
Chapter 37: Stomach Ache
“Was it those people who tried to steal our seats?”
Feng Kuang was pretty sharp to begin with. Hearing Ye Tian’s words, he immediately understood. He secretly glanced toward where those few people were sitting and said hesitantly, “Ye Tian, it can’t be, right? We just exchanged a few harsh words. Would they really come after me?”
“Believe it or not, it’s up to you. Either way, if you don’t leave, today’s Blood Disaster is unavoidable.”
Ye Tian curled his lip. He had said his piece. Whether Feng Kuang left or not was his own business. After all, those guys were looking for trouble with Feng Kuang; it had nothing to do with him, a kid.
Truth be told, Ye Tian still wanted to finish watching the movie. He almost wished Feng Kuang wouldn’t leave. At worst, he’d just get a beating. From the Divinatory Symbol, it didn’t seem too serious anyway.
Ye Tian’s words put Feng Kuang in a tight spot. The movie had only ten minutes left. If he left now, wouldn’t he miss the ending? Also, how was he supposed to explain this to Sister Hong and Wang Ying?
“Ye Tian, I… how should I tell your Sister Hong and Sister Yingying?” Feng Kuang had no one else to discuss this with, so he could only swallow his pride and ask this little kid, Ye Tian.
Ye Tian really couldn’t understand Feng Kuang’s logic. He asked, puzzled, “What’s there to explain? Someone wants to beat you up, aren’t you going to run?”
“But… but…” Feng Kuang stammered for a while but couldn’t get the words out. How could he say that he liked Wang Ying and was afraid she’d look down on him?
“Ye Tian, maybe… you can explain for me.”
As the saying goes, a wise man doesn’t court disaster. Thinking about the four guys against him alone, Feng Kuang decided it was better to slip away early. But he wanted Ye Tian to help smooth things over.
“How can I help?” Ye Tian looked at Feng Kuang. Brother Fengzi was usually good to him, so if he could save him from a beating, Ye Tian was willing to help.
“You… you just say you have a terrible stomach ache and need to go to the hospital…” Feng Kuang’s brain really was clever. He immediately cooked up a lousy idea.
“Well… alright!” Seeing the hopeful look on Feng Kuang’s face, Ye Tian agreed.
“Ouch, my stomach hurts, it’s killing me. Brother Fengzi, my stomach hurts so bad!”
When it came to acting, Ye Tian was a natural from a young age. Every time he got into mischief outside and was about to get a scolding at home, all he had to do was roll on the floor pretending to be in pain, and Ye Dongping would always relent.
It was the same now. Ye Tian channeled all his Primordial Qi into his little face. His originally pale and delicate face now flushed a deep red. His small body curled up on the seat. To an outsider, it really didn’t look like he was faking.
“Hey, Ye Tian, what’s wrong?”
Feng Kuang’s acting was a bit lousy. Even though he was asking Ye Tian, his face was turned toward Wang Ying, who sat to his right.
“Brother Fengzi, my stomach hurts, it’s killing me.” Since he’d started the act, he had to keep it up. Ye Tian clutched his little belly, almost ready to roll on the floor.
“Did you eat something cold tonight?”
Seeing Ye Tian’s discomfort, Wang Ying forgot about the movie. She touched Ye Tian’s forehead and found it covered in sweat. She quickly stood up and said, “This won’t do. He seems to have a fever too. Let’s go, hurry to the hospital…”
“This… this isn’t good, Wang Ying. Maybe… you and Sister Hong finish the movie. I can take Ye Tian to the hospital.”
Feng Kuang actually thought this was a good idea. Those guys were after him, probably not Wang Ying. Besides, Wang Ying and Sister Hong had been standing behind him earlier and hadn’t shown their faces. Once the movie ended, those guys might not even recognize them.
“The child is like this! How can we watch a movie now? You watch it if you want to…”
Wang Ying pushed Feng Kuang aside and tried to pick up Ye Tian. But even though Ye Tian was only ten, he was about 1.45 meters tall. She couldn’t lift him.
“Wang Ying, I’ll do it, I’ll do it…”
Seeing Wang Ying insisting on taking Ye Tian to the hospital, Feng Kuang had no choice but to pick Ye Tian up himself. At that moment, the picture on the big screen happened to be dark, and the Cinema was pitch black. No one noticed a few people missing from that row of seats.
Outside the Cinema, under the streetlights, Ye Tian’s flushed face scared Sister Hong too. She kept urging Feng Kuang to get his bicycle so they could hurry to the Hospital.
“Great, the fake act became real.”
Urged on by the two women, Feng Kuang reluctantly placed Ye Tian on the crossbar of his large 28-inch bicycle. Following the two women’s bicycles ahead, he pedaled toward the Hospital.
“You little rascal, why are you still pretending?” Feng Kuang whispered in Ye Tian’s ear as he pedaled.
“I… I haven’t had a chance to get better yet!”
Ye Tian was also frustrated. Once they were outside, the two women hadn’t given him a chance to speak, heading straight for the bike parking area and then to the Hospital.
“Alright, once we get to the Hospital, quickly say you’re better,” Feng Kuang instructed in Ye Tian’s ear.
The County Town wasn’t large. In about five or six minutes, they arrived at the Hospital gates. But before Ye Tian could say anything, Wang Ying rushed off to register for emergency care.
“Ahem, Sister Hong, Sister Yingying, my… my stomach doesn’t hurt as much anymore. Can… can we just not see the doctor?”
Ye Tian was starting to feel a bit scared too. He had never even caught a cold his whole life, let alone gone to a Hospital. If he got an unnecessary shot today for no reason, wouldn’t that be utterly unfair?
“No way. Your face was so flushed earlier. Come on, come with me to the outpatient clinic…”
Hearing Ye Tian’s words, Wang Ying wouldn’t hear of it. Maybe thinking Ye Tian was afraid of shots, she smiled and said, “Ye Tian, you’re such a big boy now. Are you still afraid of a shot?”
“I’m not afraid of shots, but why would I get one if I’m not sick?”
Ye Tian was suffering in silence. He could only glare hatefully at Feng Kuang. What a terrible idea this guy had come up with! If he’d known it would turn out like this, it would have been better to let Feng Kuang take the beating.
The doctor was an elderly man. After listening to Wang Ying and Sister Hong describe Ye Tian’s earlier symptoms, he took out a thermometer for Ye Tian to put under his arm, then felt his pulse.
“His pulse is steady. Nothing serious. Maybe the child ate something cold tonight, a bit of enteritis?” After checking the pulse and the thermometer, the old doctor gave his diagnosis.
“Grandpa, no shot, right?” Ye Tian’s pitiful little face made everyone in the room laugh.
The old doctor smiled and patted Ye Tian’s head. “No need. I’ll prescribe some medicine. Remember, no more greedy eating of cold things in the future.”
“Thank you, Grandpa!”
Hearing he didn’t need a shot, Ye Tian immediately perked up, bouncing around. Wang Ying and Sister Hong watched, stunned. The contrast between this lively child and the half-dead look he had earlier was just too great.
