Chapter 378: Deep Bonds, One Gulp

At the Congress, ever since Murong Wenbo appeared, Demon God Yan Kuan had found a rival. Even though Murong Wenbo was slightly weaker as a fellow divine level powerhouse, Yan Kuan couldn’t easily defeat him. Adding to this, Murong Wenbo had the backing of Congress members armed with artifacts. Though none of them were divine level, their artifacts allowed them to join the fight.

Combined, they finally managed to curb Demon God Yan Kuan’s rampage.

Dajin City regained a semblance of peace.

After repelling Yan Kuan for the third time, Murong Wenbo accepted an invitation to join the Congress as its newest chairman, wielding authority equal to the Speaker. With a divine level powerhouse like him at the helm, the Congress regained some of its former confidence.

But Murong Wenbo no longer cared about status or power.

His Murong family was gone. What use did a lone man have for influence? If not for needing the Congress’s artifacts to seek vengeance, he’d have ignored these people like Yan Kuan did. Yet a shared enemy—especially one stronger than himself—made cooperation necessary.

“Chairman Murong, the latest updates.”

A Congress staffer entered with a newspaper, casting a respectful glance at Murong Wenbo by the window—awe reserved for the truly strong.

Everyone knew the Congress stood solely because of this young man. Without him, they’d have fallen like the Thirty-two Families and the sixteen alliances.

“Leave it on the table.”

Reading newspapers was a habit Murong Wenbo had picked up after Zuo Meng dragged him into becoming an experiment. Trapped in the isolation zone without internet, he’d relied on papers Zuo Meng brought. Now, he preferred them—less vulnerable to tampering by extraordinary powers.

“Yes.”

The staffer set down the paper and retreated quietly.

“Qiongzhou?”

Once alone, Murong Wenbo grabbed the newspaper. The front page screamed:

‘Great Sage of the Divine Miracle Society Emerges—What Lies in Remote Qiongzhou?’

‘Great Sage’s True Identity Revealed: Bell Tower University’s Headmaster!’

“Who is this Great Sage?” Murong Wenbo muttered, brow furrowed. “How did he shatter the Transcendent Realm’s age-old constraints? A once-in-an-era genius?”

When Zuo Meng first rose to fame, Murong Wenbo had tried piggybacking on his reputation, even challenging him. Back then, the Thirty-two Families ranked among the Top Three Powers. Now, two of those powers had crumbled, leaving the last propped up by Murong Wenbo himself—using power inherited from the very man he’d once challenged.

The irony wasn’t lost on him.

It meant Zuo Meng had never truly seen him as a rival. To Zuo Meng, he’d been insignificant—a face in the crowd, now likely forgotten. That stung most.

“Whoever you are—I’ll surpass you.”

Pride defined geniuses. Murong Wenbo was no exception. Why else would Zuo Meng have chosen him for the Book of Becoming a God? Only geniuses could endure that trial.

BOOM!

The building trembled violently—a feat impossible under normal circumstances. Every brick here was fortified with extraordinary power, immune to mundane explosions.

Only one being possessed such destructive power.

“It’s Yan Kuan again! That madman is back!” a national congressman screamed in terror.

These former rulers who once stood atop Shending’s hierarchy now cowered like ants before unstoppable divine-level power. Stripped of authority’s illusions, they feared death as much as ordinary people.

Just before the second explosion erupted, a sci-fi-style mech warrior burst from the congress building.

The machine wielded a blazing lightsaber, parrying Yan Kuan’s assault.

The spark artifact flared to life.

This was the congress’s last defense – their bargaining chip for allying with Murong Wenbo.

“More scrap metal.”

Yan Kuan hovered midair as savage aura monsters surged from below. Having fought countless times before, he skipped probing attacks and unleashed full power immediately.

“Entertain him.”

Yan Kuan gestured, conjuring a colossal savage aura gorilla that smashed into the congress’s mech.

The violent clash sent shockwaves shattering windows. Though the spectral gorilla wasn’t physical, the mech’s counterblade sliced it apart. But as Yan Kuan’s summoned being, it simply reformed – unkillable while its master lived.

The bisected gorilla reassembled on the pavement, beat its chest, and charged again.

“Where’s Murong Wenbo? Send him out.”

Yan Kuan’s bored glance swept the battlefield. The congress’s artifacts meant nothing – they’d be his after defeating Murong Wenbo. Absorbing their power would elevate him beyond divine level, granting strength to challenge the Great Sage himself.

Compelled by the world’s source, Yan Kuan had marked the Great Sage for death. Only lingering self-doubt delayed his attack.

Gurgle!

Buildings began melting as the ground liquefied into lava. A magma wyrm emerged, gathering dark-purple energy before spewing fiery breath at Yan Kuan.

The madman exploded through his office window in a meteor-like descent wreathed in flames.

A living fire deity!

“Right on time!”

Yan Kuan spun midair, grinning wildly at the diving Murong Wenbo despite the dragonfire engulfing him.

‘Danger!’

Murong Wenbo’s divine-level instincts screamed warnings. However unhinged, Yan Kuan’s talent eclipsed his own – proven when Zuo Meng chose Yan Kuan as primary vessel years ago.

“Still denying you’re trash? Same pathetic tricks after weeks.”

Yan Kuan’s jaw unhinged with metallic screeching. Murong Wenbo glimpsed a swirling crimson orb condensing into massive iron door imagery – twin skulls flanking the word “HELL”.

“Become me.”

The spectral door dissolved into mist pouring down Yan Kuan’s throat. His teeth became hellgate portcullises, his gullet a bottomless pit. Murong Wenbo plunged moth-like into the maw before he could react.

CRUNCH!

Jaws snapped shut. Time froze.
