Chapter 355: Greed
Chapter 355: Greed
“Brother!”
Yu Jie screamed in the darkness.
Clutching her brother Yu Mo’s arm tightly, she struggled not to become a burden. How she wished to be an extraordinary being herself – to fight alongside him rather than cower helplessly.
CRASH!!
The elevator smashed into the ground. At the critical moment, Yu Mo wrapped them in divine energy, shielding them from the brutal impact.
“Move!”
Yu Mo kicked the distorted metal door open with divine-enhanced strength, dragging his sister through the wreckage.
Security Room
Security personnel lay unconscious across the floor. Three outsiders – two men and one woman – stood monitoring the screens showing the fleeing siblings.
“Look at them bolt,” sneered the first man. “Abandoning a billion-dollar company without hesitation. No wonder Zhou Dongfang lost to this guy – Yu Mo’s resolve outmatches him completely.”
“Both determination and luck favor him.”
“Which proves his connection to the Great Sage of the Divine Miracle Society,” the second man added. “Otherwise why flee?”
They watched calmly as the security feed showed Yu Mo nearing the parking lot. Interceptors already waited outside – Special System Transcendents positioned throughout the building’s perimeter.
“The Great Sage’s power extends beyond that damned Book of Becoming a God,” the first man growled. “We tested his original version on 113 subjects. All dead.”
Every major faction had secretly studied the forbidden text despite public bans. The Dugu family developed cursed beings; the Twelve Alliances and Congress conducted their own twisted experiments.
“Yu Mo’s history intrigues me,” said the tall, thin man. “Zhou Dongfang stole his research outcomes and crippled his Transcendent potential years ago. By rights, he should be broken. Yet here he stands.”
The woman snorted. “Typical faction politics. They only care about results, not methods.”
“Which means he’s hiding something crucial,” she continued. “But I only care about one thing – the Great Sage’s technique for controlling cursed beings. That’s why Central Continent’s powers want Zuo Meng.”
Silence fell. Controlling the immortal cursed beings meant absolute power – worth any risk.
“Since Ms. Luo’s so determined,” the tall man smirked, “let her capture Yu Mo.”
“Scared of the Great Sage?” Ms. Luo’s lip curled.
“Obviously.” The tall man shrugged. “He withstood Congress’s artifact and kidnapped Speaker’s son Wen Hao Yi. Only fools wouldn’t fear him.”
“If you’re scared, run home and hide.”
Ms. Luo showed no courtesy, turning her gaze to a short, stout man.
“What about you?”
“The Great Sage wouldn’t be watching Yu Mo all day. For someone like him, genuine care for others is rare. I’ll strike when necessary.” The short man avoided mentioning fear, steering the conversation back.
“Stop playing games—if we want gains, we act together. Keep stalling and he’ll slip away.”
Ms. Luo withdrew her stare, speaking bluntly.
“Yu Mo’s power feels unnatural. I suspect he’s the true inheritor of the Great Sage’s teachings from the Divine Miracle Society.”
“We’ll each copy whatever we obtain. Agreed?”
With pretenses dropped, their true motives surfaced. The standoff stemmed from mutual distrust, not mercy. Each hoped others would strike first to seize advantage later. The reckless ones who’d acted earlier were weaker—everyone knew such fools stood no chance against Yu Mo.
“Then we move as one.”
The trio exited the surveillance room simultaneously, pursuing Yu Mo’s escape route.
Yu Mo failed to flee by car.
Reaching the parking lot, he found two more foes. Empowered by his sudden surge in strength, he crushed them effortlessly. But these saboteurs had wrecked every vehicle before his arrival.
Without wheels, escape grew harder—his sister Yu Jie, being ordinary, had limited stamina.
“Damn!”
Yu Mo kicked a mangled car, rage boiling. This defensive struggle grated him. Enemies struck from shadows, leaving him blind to their numbers.
“Brother—”
“Down!”
Before Yu Jie finished speaking, Yu Mo yanked her into a protective roll.
BOOM!
The blast’s shockwave slammed them. Yu Mo tasted blood from the energy wave’s impact. Yu Jie, though shielded, lay unconscious—her mortal body couldn’t withstand the shock.
“Impressive evasion. Not completely useless, I see.”
Ms. Luo emerged with her companions, having launched the ambush. Her opening strike had been lethal—only Yu Mo’s divine-level instincts saved him.
