Chapter 88: Battle Profession
Chapter 88: Battle Profession
The Giant Lizard Beast opened its eyes wide and watched as Xu Feng walked toward it with a fierce killing intent. It struggled to stand up and continue fighting, but its limbs felt weak and powerless, unable to support its huge body. It had barely risen a little when it collapsed with a loud crash.
A look of despair flashed in the Giant Lizard Beast’s eyes. It let out a weak roar at Xu Feng, then closed its eyes, as if resigning itself to its fate.
Seeing the Giant Lizard Beast’s condition, Xu Feng felt a sudden impulse.
He walked up to the Giant Lizard Beast, raised his longsword, and placed it on the beast’s forehead.
“Submit to me, become my battle partner, and I will spare your life!” Xu Feng said.
In the post-apocalyptic world, it was possible to tame monsters into battle partners. However, most people tamed monster cubs or unhatched eggs using special methods to turn them into their battle partners. Adult monsters were very difficult to tame. On one hand, grown monsters possessed intelligence comparable to humans and understood that humans only wanted to use them for their own purposes. On the other hand, adult monsters had limited potential and were not as powerful as those raised from a young age. Therefore, few people attempted to tame adult monsters.
The chance of successfully taming an adult monster was extremely low, but in his previous life, there were always people who tried to subdue monsters after beating them to a Near-Death State. Xu Feng also adopted a mindset of accepting whatever outcome, simply giving it a try. If it didn’t work, he would just kill it and collect the rewards.
The Giant Lizard Beast remained silent, lying on the ground and breathing weakly, as if it hadn’t heard Xu Feng’s words.
Just as Xu Feng thought it had refused and raised his sword to strike, a weak voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
“I am willing!”
As the Swamp Giant Lizard Beast said “I am willing,” a special Magic Rune appeared mid-air out of nowhere, shimmering with a silvery-white light, and imprinted itself on the Giant Lizard Beast’s forehead.
This didn’t mean the Giant Lizard Beast could speak the Huaxia language of Earth; it was a mental communication through spirit with Xu Feng.
Sizzle~
A wisp of smoke rose, and the mark of the rune appeared on the Giant Lizard Beast’s forehead.
This was a reward from Earth’s Will for capturing an extraterrestrial creature as a human battle partner. Only the first capture had such a miraculous effect. For further captures, one would need to purchase a battle partner contract from the Fate Store. Each contract cost ten thousand Fate Points.
In that moment, Xu Feng felt a certain connection form between himself and the Giant Lizard Beast. The life and death of the Giant Lizard Beast were now in his hands.
He took out two Healing Potions, sprinkling one on the Giant Lizard Beast’s body surface and pouring the other into its mouth.
Soon, the Giant Lizard Beast’s Health Points began to slowly recover, but they only restored to one-third before stopping.
The Healing Potions Xu Feng currently had were the lowest grade, inferior ones. To fully restore the Giant Lizard Beast’s Health Points, he would need dozens of bottles.
However, Xu Feng’s Storage Ring contained plenty of food that could restore Health Points. He took it out and tossed it all in front of the Giant Lizard Beast.
One piece, two pieces, three pieces…
After finishing the large pile of food, the Giant Lizard Beast’s Health Points were fully restored, and all its injuries had healed.
It stood up, glanced at Xu Feng with a complicated expression, then slowly approached him and lowered its head.
Originally, it had been hunting Xu Feng, but by a twist of fate, it had ended up becoming his battle partner. The Giant Lizard Beast felt like vomiting blood internally. But what could it do?
“Let’s go. Maybe this is an opportunity for you. In the future, you might even break through to a higher realm,” Xu Feng said softly, patting the Giant Lizard Beast’s head.
The Giant Lizard Beast was currently at the Three-Star Elite level. Advancing to Four Stars, or even to the higher Lord Rank, would be extremely difficult on its own. Perhaps it would never have the chance in its lifetime.
But by following Xu Feng, the chances were much greater. However, it came at the cost of its freedom. Whether it was a gain or a loss remained uncertain.
“Even as a battle partner, the Giant Lizard Beast only has one life. It can’t be resurrected like in games after dying,” Xu Feng thought to himself.
The Giant Lizard Beast’s feelings were very mixed. It let out a low growl and nudged Xu Feng’s palm with its head.
“Alright, let me check if there are any rewards first, then we’ll continue forward.”
The purpose of coming to Blackwater Swamp was twofold: to gather resources—the amount of wood was almost sufficient, but there was still a big shortage of ore. Xu Feng needed to find the Mine Cave in Blackwater Swamp to collect enough ore. The other objective was to investigate the location of the Village of Sacrifice and prevent the Doomsday Ark Alliance from obtaining it.
Xu Feng first walked over to the remains of the Skeleton Mages and used Gathering Art.
He collected several pieces of bone infused with magic and a Skill Card for Corrosion Art.
These magic-infused bones were materials that could be used to craft staffs or for Forging. The Corrosion Art Skill Card, however, was restricted to Necromancers.
Even though he couldn’t use them himself, these items were still valuable. Xu Feng stored them in his Storage Ring.
Next, Xu Feng walked over to the corpse of the Skeleton War General, which was at the Three-Star level.
He raised his right hand, and a ball of white light enveloped the area. Soon, a card materialized above the Skeleton War General’s remains.
“Swordsman Profession Employment Card.”
Xu Feng couldn’t help but show a delighted expression. After reaching Three-Star, he had been wanting to obtain an employment card to gain a battle profession.
His innate talent also dictated that his profession must involve sword-type weapons to maximize its effects.
In Blackwater Swamp, Xu Feng had obtained several profession employment cards, but none had been suitable. Now, he finally had one.
Clutching the Swordsman employment card, Xu Feng silently recited in his mind:
“Use.”
The employment card turned into a streak of white light and shot into Xu Feng’s forehead.
“Acquired battle profession: Swordsman!”
“Automatically acquired skill: Basic Swordplay…”
“It has been detected that you already possess the skill Basic Swordplay (Intermediate). Skill automatically upgraded by one level. Your Basic Swordplay has reached Advanced…”
“Automatically received Attribute Points bonuses: Strength increased by 15 points, Agility increased by 10 points, Spirit increased by 5 points…”
Swinging the longsword in his hand, a sense of familiarity surged within him. After becoming a Swordsman, Xu Feng’s strength had increased by at least one-third.
In his previous life, Xu Feng’s Three-Star battle profession was Warrior. While he could use swords, blades, and similar weapons, he needed to learn the corresponding skills for them.
But now, as a Swordsman, Xu Feng came with the Basic Swordplay skill and gained an additional thirty Attribute Points.
“At Six-Star Strength, I can undergo another profession change. By then, my strength will improve even more.”
Xu Feng clenched his fist, feeling a powerful force surge within his body.
“Let’s go, keep moving forward.”
After adjusting to the sudden increase in strength, Xu Feng mounted the Giant Lizard Beast and directed it to run deeper into the swamp.
