Chapter 6: Mission Accomplished

Poof~

Another Black Armored Beetle exploded into a mess of minced flesh in mid-air.

Xu Feng moved like a whirlwind, his Bone-Cleaver turning into dazzling flashes of lightning. With each strike, he killed one Black Armored Beetle. Soon, a large pool of pale green liquid and the split bodies of Black Armored Beetles lay at his feet.

These Black Armored Beetles were too weak and had no materials that Xu Feng needed. He gave them a quick glance and continued walking toward the three corpses not far away.

Seeing Xu Feng kill all their companions in such a short time, the remaining Black Armored Beetles, which had been feeding on flesh, stopped eating at the same time. They raised their heads together, their crimson eyes fixed on Xu Feng.

Buzz~

A large black cloud rose into the air again. Almost all the Black Armored Beetles that had been pouncing on the corpses were angered and charged at Xu Feng. Meanwhile, three other Black Armored Beetles crawled into the torn wounds of the three corpses. Soon, the three corpses began to twitch slightly, and shiny black shells started to appear on their surfaces.

“Ha! Bugs, bugs, bugs! Of all the invaders, I hate you disgusting bugs the most!” Xu Feng swung his blade horizontally, cutting through several Black Armored Beetles in one go. Without waiting for his move to slow, the blade light suddenly curved, forming an arc that turned several more Black Armored Beetles into mush.

A few Black Armored Beetles took advantage of the opening and lunged onto Xu Feng’s body. Their sharp mouthparts tore through his clothes and stabbed fiercely at his exposed skin. However, Xu Feng’s skin had become extremely tough. Where they pierced, only a small dent appeared, and they could not penetrate further. These Black Armored Beetles, which could easily tear through ordinary human flesh, could not even break Xu Feng’s skin.

Xu Feng shook his body slightly, causing the Black Armored Beetles climbing on him to lose their balance and fall to the ground. He stomped on them one by one, crushing them all to death.

“You guys aren’t even One Star, a whole realm below me. How could you possibly hurt me? Hahaha!” A flash of white light cut the last two Black Armored Beetles in half at the same time. Xu Feng panted lightly and laughed heartily.

“This feels great, really great! It’s been a long time since I’ve fought so freely, hahaha!” Xu Feng tore off his tattered clothes, revealing his well-built upper body.

Looking at the pile of Black Armored Beetle corpses, Xu Feng could not help but sigh. In his previous life, the mission to kill one hundred Black Armored Beetles had taken him five whole days to complete. Back then, he avoided large groups of Black Armored Beetles, sneakily going around them to escape. He could only pick off lone Black Armored Beetles. He glanced at the mission issued by Earth’s Will. He had already killed seventy-one Black Armored Beetles. It had been less than half an hour since the mission was issued, and Xu Feng had already completed two-thirds of it.

Stepping on the Black Armored Beetle corpses, Xu Feng continued walking out of the hotel. Just then, the three hotel hostess corpses, which had been torn to shreds, staggered to their feet. Now, fist-sized patches of black shells covered their bodies. The muscles on their arms had mostly fallen off, revealing the bones underneath. From the wrists down, their hands had turned into two dark, shiny Bone Blades.

“Chii, chii, eat, eat, eat…”

The three corpses wobbled as they lunged at Xu Feng. At first, they moved slowly, swaying unsteadily. But after a few steps, they seemed to have adapted to the human bodies. Their speed increased, and they raised their arms high, aiming their Bone Blades at Xu Feng’s head.

“Hmph, only the weakest Black Armored Beetles parasitize corpses. Now, you’re even worse than the un-parasitized Black Armored Beetles!” Xu Feng dashed forward, his Bone-Cleaver slicing through the first Insect Human’s neck.

Thud-thud-thud~

The severed head of the Insect Human fell to the ground and rolled away like a ball.

The remaining two Insect Humans roared, swinging their Bone Blades at Xu Feng. But with a casual swing of his blade, Xu Feng cut off all four of their bony arms.

Clang-clang-clang~

The Bone Blades fell to the ground, making metallic clinking sounds.

“Compared to parasitizing living creatures, parasitizing corpses reduces your strength by half and makes improvement ten times harder. Only the stupidest bugs give up their future to parasitize corpses. You three must be the dumbest ones in the Insect Race, hahaha~” Xu Feng kicked one Insect Human away and laughed heartily.

Spinning around, he swung his Bone-Cleaver at the back of another Insect Human’s head, slicing off half of it.

After killing another Insect Human, Xu Feng casually threw his Bone-Cleaver at the third one charging at him.

Crack~

The third Insect Human’s head was split in half like a watermelon, its slightly darkened brains scattering all over the ground.

“You have killed three Insect Humans. Each Insect Human counts as ten Black Armored Beetles. You have completed Mission One and gained 300 Fate Points. You can purchase items you need at the Fate Store.” The mechanical voice sounded again the moment Xu Feng killed the last Insect Human.

“Show me the nearest Fate Store!” Xu Feng thought to himself.

Buzz~

A soft sound rang, and a semi-transparent map of Linhai City appeared before Xu Feng’s eyes. A green dot flashed on the map, representing Xu Feng’s current location. Not far from him, there was a place marked with a coin symbol, and a cursor pointed vertically toward it.

The Fate Store was set up by Earth’s Will to make it easy for Earth’s Chosen to buy items. In the early stages of the invasion, these Fate Stores were hidden in safe corners all over Earth to prevent them from being discovered and destroyed by the invaders. Later, when humans became stronger, Earth’s Will would issue missions to build settlements and then place the Fate Stores in human gathering places.

“I have… three hundred and seven Fate Points now. That’s probably only enough to buy the cheapest Black Iron Grade weapon. Damn it!” Xu Feng checked his Fate Points and said with some frustration.

“Earth’s Will will issue the second mission in seven days. These newly parasitized Insect Humans have no materials worth collecting. How can I get more Fate Points now…” Xu Feng scratched his head and scanned the semi-transparent map before him, hoping that this familiar thing might trigger some memory to solve his current lack of Fate Points.
