Chapter 29: Opening the Chest
Chapter 29: Opening the Chest
“Cleave!” Xu Feng roared, his long sword suddenly slashing forward and splitting a Fish Monster in half from head to toe.
“Kill, kill, kill!”
He simulated Cleave again and again. Though each slash was able to kill a Fish Monster, it was impossible for him to reproduce that terrifying sword light from before.
Xu Feng’s might had already shattered the Fish Monsters’ courage. The remaining Fish Monsters screamed in terror, turned around, and fled towards the Resort Lake.
“Wang Ying, don’t let them escape.” Xu Feng shouted, chasing after them and hacking. Wang Ying, who had been standing far away, now also gave chase, throwing balls of green light at the fleeing Fish Monsters.
Soon, this group of Fish Monsters was completely wiped out by the two of them, still over a hundred meters away from the Resort Lake.
Xu Feng plopped down on the ground, panting heavily and laughing heartily.
Wang Ying frowned behind him, looking at the ground covered with Fish Monster corpses and blood. She cast a healing spell on Xu Feng twice.
The two of them collected all the Insect Crystals and looked towards the Resort.
“There’s probably no one there now, right?” Wang Ying sighed.
“Yeah, with such a large group of Fish Monsters passing through, everyone must have been killed. The Fish Monsters’ Perception isn’t low; even if someone tried to hide, they wouldn’t have managed it.” Xu Feng shook his head.
If the people in the Resort had used a Sniper Rifle to support him earlier, maybe they could have wiped out this group of Fish Monsters. But unfortunately, for some reason, the people inside ended up attacking him instead.
“Should we go check it out? Will it delay your business?” Wang Ying asked, remembering that Xu Feng had come here specifically to do something.
“It doesn’t matter much right now. Let’s go take a look and tidy up a bit. We might have to stay here tonight.” Xu Feng sighed, and the two of them walked towards the Resort together.
This Resort was not very large, only a few hundred square meters, simply enclosed by a fence. Inside, there were several single-story houses and a three-story building.
The single-story houses seemed to be storage rooms, filled with things like inflatable boats and fishing gear. The two of them glanced inside briefly before heading towards the three-story building.
As soon as they entered the building, they smelled a strong odor of blood. The corridors, passageways, and even the stairs were splattered with blood. There were even human body parts and Fish Monster corpses scattered about.
The two of them followed the stairs to the third floor. A large private room had its door wide open. A Fish Monster corpse, with half its body shattered, lay at the doorway.
They entered the private room. Opposite them was a floor-to-ceiling window that faced the Resort Lake, offering a panoramic view of the entire lake. Next to the window lay a black case containing a disassembled Sniper Rifle.
Beside the gun case, bullets were scattered messily on the floor.
Xu Feng didn’t even glance at the Sniper Rifle gleaming with an oily sheen. Such a weapon, though powerful, was merely of ordinary quality, far less effective than the long sword he currently wielded.
Moreover, the gun case was quite bulky and inconvenient to carry around. Without any portable storage method, Xu Feng wouldn’t choose to lug a gun case around on adventures.
After looking at the supplies piled up in the private room, Xu Feng said, “Let’s use this place as our temporary home. There’s no shortage of food and clean water. As long as we aren’t surrounded by a huge number of Fish Monsters, we can escape easily.”
“Okay. I’ll tidy up a bit.” Wang Ying frowned at the garbage and liquor bottles littering the floor and said, “This place reeks of alcohol. If we don’t clean up, it’ll be unlivable. By the way, you still haven’t told me what we came here to do.”
“Heh, of course, it’s to kill Fish Monsters, collect Insect Crystals, and improve our strength.” Xu Feng smiled slightly and said, “And also to sneak around and find some Treasure Chests, testing our luck to see if we can get anything good. Hehe.”
In his previous life, Xu Feng had liked coming here to hunt Fish Monsters and try his luck. Most of the chests contained junk items, but occasionally, something decent really could be found. Once, Xu Feng had even found a cake that could increase Attribute Points in a chest. The delicious cake had left a lasting impression on him.
Soon, the two of them tidied up the large private room simply and began to sneak quietly towards the Resort Lake outside.
“Most of those chests are buried in the mud, though occasionally some are placed directly on the ground. You need to look carefully when searching. Just like in games, those chests emit a faint glow, making them easy to spot.” Xu Feng said softly.
They were now very close to the wooden buildings by the lake. However, most of the Fish Monsters in the wooden buildings had already been killed. As long as they didn’t enter the lake, they wouldn’t encounter any danger for now.
“Oh, okay. Hey, Xu Feng, look over there. Is that a chest?” Wang Ying suddenly pointed at a mound of dirt not far away and whispered.
Xu Feng turned to look. Indeed, next to the mound of dirt, there was a wooden chest half-buried by the soil, only a corner exposed. It would be hard to spot unless you looked carefully.
Looking at the faint white glow emanating from it, Xu Feng shook his head. Wang Ying’s luck was truly formidable, no wonder she had made such a big name for herself among hundreds of millions of people.
“Yes, that’s the chest I mentioned. Let’s go check it out.” Xu Feng nodded.
The two approached. Xu Feng pulled the chest out. It was only about a foot long, not very large, seemingly cobbled together from a few planks. Strangely, however, it was as if there was a light source inside the wooden chest, emitting a faint milky white halo.
“Don’t judge this chest by its small size; the space inside isn’t small. It can hold a lot of things, even a full set of knight armor. However, once you take the items out of this chest, it will disappear. Otherwise, just this chest alone would be worth a lot of money.” Xu Feng said softly.
“Then where do these chests come from?” Wang Ying asked quietly.
“I don’t know.” Xu Feng shook his head. “Some say it’s the work of Earth’s Will, specifically meant to enhance the strength of Earth’s Chosen. I don’t know if that’s true or not.”
“Should we open it and see?” Wang Ying asked, her face full of anticipation.
“Okay, let’s see. I hope we get something good.” Xu Feng was about to open the chest but hesitated. He said to Wang Ying, “You open it.”
“Me?” Wang Ying’s eyebrows shot up, seemingly very surprised.
“I’ve noticed you have good luck. If you open it, you’ll probably get some unexpectedly good items.” Xu Feng said.
“Alright.” Wang Ying took a deep breath, placed her hands solemnly on the top edge of the chest, and gently opened it.
A vibrant green luster bloomed from within the chest.
