Chapter 25: Heading to the Outskirts

Xu Feng now had a dedicated healer with him. As long as he wasn’t surrounded by a large number of Two Stars monsters, he faced virtually no danger.

However, wandering around the city didn’t yield many encounters with powerful monsters. They had been fighting all morning and had only managed to complete Wang Ying’s first task. They hadn’t come across a single One-Star Monster yet.

Right now, everyone else was afraid of running into One-Star Monsters. Even if they encountered an ordinary monster, they would carefully go around it. No one would have thought that there was actually someone hoping to meet a One-Star Monster.

“Alright, my first task is done, and I got three hundred Fate Points as a reward,” Wang Ying said happily. “The next task is set for seven days from now. Hmm, that leaves six days. What should we do next? Keep killing bugs?”

“There are too many bugs in the city; I’m sick of killing them. Let’s go out of the city and look around,” Xu Feng said.

At the moment, he didn’t have any AOE skills and could only kill them one by one with his sword, which was too slow. It was better to leave the city, find some stronger monsters, and see if the thing he wanted had appeared yet.

Although Wang Ying had a powerful talent, she was still just an ordinary girl at heart. Just yesterday, she had been so scared of the bugs that she ran around in panic. But after only one day, she was already brave enough to move freely in this city full of killing and monsters.

All of this was thanks to the man in front of her.

“Wherever you say, we’ll go. But the outskirts are too far; it would be great if we had a car,” Wang Ying said softly, glancing at the street.

The city roads were jammed with cars, many of which were too damaged to drive. Even if a car could be driven, the roads were so piled up with vehicles that it was impossible to get out.

“Let’s just start walking. Even if we find a working car here, we can’t drive it out. When we reach a place with fewer cars, we’ll find one that works and leave this place,” Xu Feng said helplessly.

The two of them headed towards the city outskirts. Along the way, they met many people. Some were forming teams, using various weapons to kill bugs. Others were searching for supplies and carrying them back home. Throughout the city, explosions, desperate screams, and the shrill cries of bugs could be heard from time to time.

Seeing Xu Feng and Wang Ying strolling along as if they were on a leisurely trip, the people nearby looked at them with a hint of surprise but carefully kept their distance.

“Hey, boss, look at those two,” said a young punk with dyed yellow hair, pointing at Xu Feng.

“What about them? They look pretty ordinary,” said the one called boss. He was a fat guy whose flesh jiggled with the slightest movement, looking like he weighed at least two hundred pounds. He wore a thick gold chain around his neck, was shirtless, and had a tattoo of a fierce-looking Soaring Sky Tiger on his back.

“No, look at that girl. She’s really hot,” the yellow-haired punk said with a lewd grin.

“Damn it, Yellow Hair! What’s wrong with you, still thinking about women at a time like this? Hurry up and move all the food and water here back to the base,” another punk in a leather jacket, who seemed annoyed by Yellow Hair’s attitude, yelled loudly.

“Hey, I’m just thinking about the boss. It’s the apocalypse now, and the boss is still single…” Yellow Hair muttered under his breath.

The guy called boss rubbed his chin, seeming somewhat tempted. But when his gaze fell on Xu Feng, he couldn’t help but shiver. Taking a closer look at the black-glowing long sword on Xu Feng’s back, he immediately turned back and slapped Yellow Hair across the face.

“Are you blind? If you dare give me stupid suggestions like that again, I’ll crush you!” the boss growled in a low voice. “Remember these two. If you see them again, stay far away.”

Xu Feng glanced back at the group moving goods from the store, a faint, enigmatic smile playing on his lips.

“What are you looking at?” Wang Ying also turned to look. She saw a bunch of punks clearing out supplies from a store and frowned. “What, you want to stop them from stealing?”

“In this world, if we bothered with things like that, we’d probably be worked to death,” Xu Feng said with a bitter smile, shaking his head. “But if someone has designs on the two of us, well, that’s something we should deal with.”

After saying that, Xu Feng bent down, picked up a rock, and threw it towards the group of punks.

With a sharp whizzing sound, the rock flew and smashed squarely into Yellow Hair’s mouth. The impact sent him flying backward.

“Hey, Yellow Hair!”

The group rushed over in shock and helped Yellow Hair up. His lips were swollen like two sausages, almost all of his teeth were gone, and his face was covered in tears and snot.

“Hey, Yellow Hair, I told you those two aren’t people to mess with. Be more careful with your words next time,” the boss said quietly.

“Really? They could hear us from that far away?” someone said in disbelief.

“Hmph, just look at who they are. We’re lucky they’re easygoing, otherwise our whole group would probably be done for.”

Yellow Hair was trembling all over, unable to speak. His eyes were filled with terror, and he didn’t even dare glance at the backs of the two figures again.

Wang Ying was puzzled and asked, “What happened?” Aside from her physique and spirit, all her other attributes were at G-level, the same as an ordinary person. Naturally, she hadn’t heard what Yellow Hair said. If she had, the matter wouldn’t have been settled with just a rock.

“Haha, nothing. Let’s go,” Xu Feng said casually.

As they made their way towards the outskirts, Xu Feng actually encountered several One-Star Monsters. They were all animals possessed by the Insect Race. One of them could even spit Fireballs from its mouth, clearly having its own skill.

However, in front of Xu Feng and Wang Ying, these monsters were no different from ordinary Black Armored Beetles. With Wang Ying’s healing, Xu Feng fought more aggressively, trading injuries for faster kills. Their efficiency improved greatly, and without much effort, they took down all the monsters that charged at them.

Soon, Wang Ying’s Virtual Backpack stored over a dozen One Star Insect Crystals.

After walking for two or three hours, the number of cars on the road finally decreased enough to allow passage. The two casually found a car with the keys still in it and drove towards the large lake in the outskirts.

That large lake was originally an inland lake left over from land reclamation projects. It was initially intended for developing fisheries and raising sea fish, but it was later developed into a Resort, with a few fishing boats added for tourists. Because of this, many people liked to call that lake the Resort Lake.

Of course, the lake had plenty of fish, as well as crabs, turtles, and other aquatic creatures, numbering in the thousands. After being infested by the Insect Race, they all turned into monsters with fish heads and armored bodies, and they even gained a certain level of intelligence.
