Chapter 140: Skeletal Warhorse
Chapter 140: Skeletal Warhorse
This was a special plaque carved from dark wood. It looked ancient, with a skeletal horse carved on the front and two lines of Spirit Tribe script covering the entire back like decorative patterns.
“Item Name: Horse Talisman. Attribute: Upon use, summons the Skeletal Warhorse of a Skeletal Knight. Cooldown time: 30 seconds.
Skeletal Knight’s Skeletal Warhorse: Single-person mount, Gold Quality, Speed 280; Special Skill 1: War Stomp. After activation, deals 280-350 trample damage to all enemies within three meters and stuns them for 2 seconds. Special Skill 2: Sprint. After activation, increases movement speed by 70% for 15 seconds. Cooldown: 3 minutes.”
It was a very good mount. Ordinary mounts had no special skills, but this Gold Quality Skeletal Warhorse had two. Clearly, it was a rare treasure.
Xu Feng had originally wanted to hunt a Skeletal Mammoth to get a mammoth mount drop, but this one now was clearly much better.
A mammoth type mount was suitable for charging wildly on the battlefield, but the Skeletal Warhorse could be used both in battle and for traveling.
“This mount is for you,” Xu Feng said, handing the Horse Talisman to Ding Xiang.
“A Gold Quality mount?” Ding Xiang widened her eyes and shook her head. “It’s too precious. I can’t accept it.”
A Gold Quality mount with two special skills—if such an item appeared at the Auction House, everyone would go crazy over it. Anyone powerful would want one.
“Take it. You’re an undead summoner. Riding a skeletal horse suits your style!” Xu Feng chuckled. “Plus, there are so many Skeletal Knights here. We can just get another Horse Talisman.”
Ding Xiang hesitated for a moment but finally accepted it.
“Thank you, Big Bro!”
Xu Feng smiled faintly and continued looking through the Fate Treasure Chest. It didn’t just contain the Horse Talisman.
Besides the Gold Quality Horse Talisman, there was an Attack Haste Scroll that could increase attack speed by 30% for all teammates within ten meters—a nice find. Also in the chest were three Attribute Gems.
Xu Feng noticed that whether fighting monsters or opening chests in Death Fortress, Attribute Gems dropped very frequently. But elsewhere, the chances were much lower.
After defeating one Skeletal Knight, handling the rest became easy. After killing three more, the Skeletal Hound’s Health Points hit zero, turning into a pile of dry bones.
It wasn’t that the Skeletal Hound triggered the Skeletal Knights’ special skill; it started with only a third of its health. Continuously serving as the shield and killing four Skeletal Knights took its toll without recovery. It became expendable and fell quickly.
“Ding Xiang, your pet slot is free! Try taming this Skeletal Knight!” Xu Feng called out.
Ding Xiang nodded and began casting a forced contract on the Skeletal Knight they were fighting.
A summoner’s pets were all bound by contracts, one by one. These pets had only one life; once their Health Points were gone, they couldn’t be revived.
However, there was a special type called a soul-bound beast. A summoner could form such a bond only once in their lifetime. If a soul-bound beast died, it could be revived, but it would permanently reduce the summoner’s own attributes as a cost.
Ding Xiang didn’t have one yet. Her two Three-Star Elite pets were just ordinary ones. Once gone, they couldn’t come back. Now, her freed summoning slot allowed her to capture other Undead Creatures.
A stream of chants spilled from Ding Xiang’s lips. Gray undead energy formed glowing characters floating in the air. More and more characters gathered, weaving into a rope-like construct that flew toward the half-health Skeletal Knight.
The harnessed Skeletal Knight’s gaze turned vacant, its movements stiff. Xu Feng slowed his attacks. If Ding Xiang succeeded, this knight would become an ally. Having it too low on health would be bad for later fights.
Sadly, after just three seconds, the Skeletal Knight snapped out of it. Throwing its head back, it roared. The Skeletal Warhorse beneath it reared. As the knight swung its blade, snapping the energy ropes, it became enraged, charging straight at Ding Xiang, only to be blocked instantly by the Undead Giant and Xu Feng. They clashed again.
The broken ropes dissolved into clusters of complex Magic Runes before fading into nothingness.
A flicker of disappointment crossed Ding Xiang’s eyes, but there were plenty of knights. She wouldn’t fixate on just one.
After the taming failed, Xu Feng increased his attacks. Though they missed the Skeletal Hound, the knight soon crumbled into bones.
“Huh? Another Fate Treasure Chest.” Xu Feng’s eyes lit up.
Fate Treasure Chests had a low drop rate. Sometimes, killing dozens of monsters wouldn’t drop one. But higher-level, tougher monsters had better odds. Skeletal Knights were Three-Star Elite Monsters; ordinary people couldn’t hunt them. Only skilled teams dared tackle these beings.
Opening the Fate Treasure Chest, another identical Horse Talisman appeared in Xu Feng’s hand.
“Heh, great luck. Got another Horse Talisman,” Xu Feng grinned, excitement gleaming. He truly desired a mount.
But Ding Xiang had helped him immensely—saved his life even, back at Baron Sara’s. Without her, he would have been in serious danger.
So, to repay her, he had given the first Horse Talisman to Ding Xiang. This one would go into his bag.
“Oh, good! Now we both have mounts!” Ding Xiang seemed even happier than him, clapping and laughing.
Xu Feng nodded, binding the Horse Talisman before placing it in his backpack.
The two farmed more knights, luring and surrounding them. Soon, Ding Xiang managed to form a contract with one. The battered Skeletal Knight rode its mount slowly behind her.
“So handsome!” Ding Xiang gazed up at the knight seated high on its Skeletal Warhorse, eyes gleaming. The sorrow over the Skeletal Hound vanished right then.
Xu Feng smiled. Ding Xiang was still a young girl. Exciting new toys easily made her forget the old ones.
With a Skeletal Knight joining their side, Xu Feng dispatched foes even faster. Soon, the Silver Treasure Chest was cleared of surrounding knights.
As he stood before the chest, Xu Feng’s pulse quickened. Wild Treasure Chests always held something good. Considering this sat amid a field crawling with Three-Star Elite Monsters, its grade had to be high. He was filled with anticipation.
