Chapter 31: Mercenary Beauty
Chapter 31: Mercenary Beauty
After doing all this, Sun Fei focused his mind and opened his character stats panel:
Level: 7
Experience: 35100/40000
Might: 51
Agility: 20
Vitality: 34
Energy: 10
Attack: 3-43
Attack Accuracy: 114
Defense: 77
Stamina: 124
Life: 126
Mana: 19
Fire Resistance: 0
Cold Resistance: 0
Lightning Resistance: 15
Poison Resistance: 0
……
These numbers had grown so much compared to the beginning; it was like night and day.
But obviously, even with these stats, they were not strong enough to solve the troubles Sun Fei faced in the real world.
According to Sun Fei’s rough estimate, reaching level 5 in the World of Diablo was equal to the strength of a One-Star Warrior in the outside real world.
Between levels 5 and 10, he could instantly kill a One-Star Warrior and pose some threat to those who had just advanced to Two-Star Warrior level, like taking out Military Judge Conca. But when facing an experienced Two-Star Warrior head-on, it would be a bit more difficult, though winning the fight was not impossible. However, if he faced a Three-Star Warrior like Lampard or Lund, without launching a surprise attack, he stood no chance at all.
Once he crossed the level 10 threshold in the World of Diablo, Sun Fei believed that even facing a Three-Star Warrior like Lund again, without using special skills like Howl, he would have the strength to fight head-on.
So Sun Fei had to hurry and level up as quickly as possible.
As long as his Barbarian character passed level 10, Shampoo City would have one more layer of protection.
Sun Fei began to act swiftly according to the plan he made before entering the World of Diablo:
Buzz buzz buzz.
He opened his backpack and activated a Town Portal Scroll. A large blue oval Portal appeared beside him.
Sun Fei stepped through and the next second, he returned to the Rogue Encampment.
He immediately went to find Nun Auntie Acarra.
Following his earlier plan, Sun Fei bought one Town Portal Book and one Identify Book. Then he purchased 10 Town Portal Scrolls and 10 Scrolls of Identify, placing them into the two books and stuffing them into his backpack space.
Just like in the computer game from his previous life, the purpose of buying those two books was naturally to save backpack space.
Because the Town Portal Book and Identify Book could each hold 20 Town Portal Scrolls and Scrolls of Identify, but only took up two slots in the backpack. If placed loosely, 40 Town Portal Scrolls and Scrolls of Identify would occupy 40 backpack slots, leaving no room for other items.
Since Nun Auntie Acarra was an unscrupulous merchant with unfair prices, Sun Fei did not plan to sell his equipment here. Instead, he bid farewell and left, passing several tents before finding a relatively hidden spot. There, he began using Scrolls of Identify to appraise his equipment.
Sun Fei first appraised the three glowing items. The first was the small round shield covered in spikes.
Using one Scroll of Identify, all the attributes of the small round shield appeared before Sun Fei’s eyes:
Soul Emblem Small Round Shield.
Defense: +20
Block Chance: +25%
Durability: 10/10
Required Might: 35
Required Level: 7
Special Effects: +17% Faster Hit Recovery, +7 Mana, +9 Cold Resistance, Ethereal (Cannot Be Repaired).
The attributes of this round shield made Sun Fei overjoyed; it seemed tailor-made for a level 7 Barbarian. With this shield, the defensive capability of his current Barbarian character could instantly reach a new level.
The only flaw was that the shield had only 10 uses of durability, and being an ethereal item, it was a one-time consumable. Once broken, it could not be repaired by a blacksmith.
However, the flaws could not obscure the virtues; this shield was exactly what Sun Fei needed right now.
He equipped the round shield onto his character without hesitation.
Then he continued appraising.
Using another Scroll of Identify, all the attributes of the golden short sword were revealed:
Storm Piercer Short Sword.
One-Hand Damage: 3-7
Durability: 24/24
Sword Class: Fast Attack Speed
Special Effects: +1 to Minimum Damage, +16 to Attack Accuracy, +51% Damage to Undead, +69 to Attack Rating against Undead, +1-2 Fire Damage, +6 Poison Damage Over 2 Seconds.
Looking at the short sword’s attributes, Sun Fei was so happy he could hardly contain himself.
He thought for a moment and gleefully equipped the Storm Piercer Short Sword on himself as well. In the World of Diablo, besides armor, amulets, rings, and other equipment which were unique, each game character could equip two sets of weapons, allowing free switching between them as needed.
Sun Fei combined the Soul Emblem Small Round Shield and the Storm Piercer Short Sword into one set, using the sword in his right hand and the shield in his left, creating an optional secondary weapon set. The original highly damaging Two-Handed Greataxe was kept as the primary main-hand attack weapon.
Next, he appraised the last yellow item: the bronze-colored gloves.
Using one Scroll of Identify, all the attributes of the gloves appeared before him:
Bronze Self-Repairing Gauntlets.
Defense: +6
Durability: 14/14
Special Effects: +15 to Attack Accuracy, +10% Fire Resistance, +15% Cold Resistance, Repairs 1 Durability every 33 Seconds.
Yet another top-tier yellow equipment.
Sun Fei felt a bit dizzy. He wondered if he had done some good deeds recently, causing his luck to skyrocket. Not only were the attributes of the three yellow items exceptional, but they could all be used by his current level 7 Barbarian character, as if custom-made for him.
Snapping out of it, Sun Fei promptly replaced the previously worn leather gloves with the Bronze Self-Repairing Gauntlets. For a moment, the three yellow items shone brightly on him, giving him an urge to immediately run into the wilderness and battle monsters for three hundred rounds, feeling as if he had upgraded from a makeshift weapon to a cannon.
After appraising all the equipment and organizing it, Sun Fei went to find the female blacksmith Charsi.
He sold all the other blue equipment in his backpack that he couldn’t use for the time being, earning a total of 18,666 Gold Coins. Looking at the accumulated total of 21,000 Gold Coins in his backpack and the suddenly surging number, Sun Fei felt a sense of achievement, as if he had transformed from a pauper into a minor rich person.
Time was tight. After doing all this, Sun Fei didn’t dare to linger for even a moment.
While at Charsi’s place, he repaired all his equipment. Then, spending a small amount of Gold Coins, he bought a metal helmet and a pair of heavy leather boots to wear. Then he immediately turned and left the blacksmith shop, finding the Rogue Encampment’s armed leader Kashya to turn in the task “Kill the Traitor Blood Raven” and receive the reward.
“Oh, bless the heavens, young adventurer, you actually killed that despicable traitor… Congratulations, you have earned my trust and friendship. In return, you will receive a powerful female Rogue as your personal Mercenary.”
Kashya was pleasantly surprised that Sun Fei had successfully completed the task.
As she spoke, a young and beautiful female Rogue archer emerged from the tent behind Kashya and came before Sun Fei.
“This is the powerful Magic Archer Ileena from the Rogue Encampment. Young adventurer, Ileena will follow you from now on and fight for you.”
Kashya introduced the female Rogue warrior to Sun Fei.
Sun Fei looked closely.
This young Sorceress Archer named Ileena was about twenty-one years old, slightly shorter than Sun Fei. She had beautiful fiery red hair tied tightly at the back of her head with coarse cloth. Her figure was slender and full, wearing only rough leather armor that protected key areas. She wore a pair of long leather boots, her smooth, fair thighs exposed. The leather battle skirt only covered the upper part of her thighs. Her slim waist and ample chest created a stunning visual contrast—an absolute devilish figure with an angelic face. Notably, this female Sorceress Archer had a heroic spirit rarely seen in ordinary women, appearing valiant and spirited.
“Hello, as entrusted by Leader Kashya, I will fight for you, young warrior.”
Ileena wasn’t very talkative. After calmly saying this to Sun Fei, she stood behind him like a guard and didn’t speak further. Her expression was very serene, like an orchid in a secluded valley, giving off a tranquil, independent feeling, yet not coming across as cold.
Sun Fei recalled the techniques for leading Mercenaries from his previous life.
If he remembered correctly, having a Mercenary would allow him to level up much faster than going solo. So he did not refuse. He thanked Kashya and then, with his beautiful bodyguard in tow, headed to Nun Auntie Acarra based on his memories from the previous life’s game to receive the Rogue Encampment’s third beginner task: the search and rescue mission for the sleazy old man Kane.
The requirements for this task were a bit complicated:
Sun Fei had to traverse the monster-infested Underground Passage, reach the Dark Forest to find the Tree of Inifuss, and obtain a mysterious scroll. Then, after returning to the Rogue Encampment, Nun Auntie Acarra would help translate the scroll—essentially giving you a sequence of numbers. Using these numbers, you could go and touch the five stone pillars in the Stony Field. These five rather flamboyant stone pillars, when touched, would shoot out beams of light as if climaxing, forming a Portal that teleported you to a mysterious realm. In that mysterious realm, the sleazy old man Kane was trapped in a cage hanging from a tree, being teased by a group of demons as if he were a monkey. Your final task was to kill those demons, rescue the sleazy old man, and then return to the Rogue Encampment to claim the reward.
