Chapter 25: Subduing
Chapter 25: Subduing
With confusion, Zheng Yichen followed this Ghost Maid as they hurried towards the target point. Walking in front of him, the Ghost Maid suddenly stopped, looked back at Zheng Yichen, and reached out to grab a small tree nearby.
The tree actually began to twist and turned into a gray Wraith. This Wraith had a twisted face, greatly different from the calm appearance of the Ghost Maid. Comparing them, the latter should have been very strong in combat, but this gray, obviously Evil Spirit-like Wraith was the one getting beaten up!
“You mean… they are all pitiful.” After a round of beating, the Ghost Maid chased away this Wraith, noticed Zheng Yichen’s strange look, and started gesturing while walking.
Seeing that Zheng Yichen understood her meaning, the Ghost Maid quickly nodded. She pointed to a skeleton under a tree, then pointed in the direction where the Wraith was hammered away. Having understood her words many times, Zheng Yichen had also picked up some experience.
“Hmm… there are many Wraiths in this forest, and they are all people who died here?”
“…” The Ghost Maid nodded again, indicating that Zheng Yichen’s understanding was not off. Then, she thought of something and quickly made new gestures. This time it was much more complex, and Zheng Yichen had to confirm several times to understand.
The Wraiths wandering in the Forest of Illusions all had strong aggression. Gray ones could be spared; they weren’t bad people before death. The aggression was only because they were influenced by hallucinations when they died, as those hallucinations weren’t good.
With such a death, even good people would become twisted after becoming Wraiths in the Forest of Illusions. As for black ones, there’s no need to be polite; just kill them directly!
This little episode didn’t waste much time. As they approached the scene of the incident, Zheng Yichen faintly heard a series of sharp screams.
Now, without the Ghost Maid leading the way, Zheng Yichen rushed over first. There, several young men and women were putting on a display of dramatic facial expressions, barely holding back some impulses, and two of them seemed unable to hold on anymore.
One had scratched her face full of bloodstains, and the sharp screams came from her mouth. The reason she didn’t harm others was because there was a middle-aged man in the group taking care of things.
Looking at their clothes, they were of the same style, somewhat similar to school uniforms… right?
Zheng Yichen couldn’t be sure, as in this world, his knowledge was limited, and he hadn’t learned about many things.
The Ghost Maid had brought him here, undoubtedly to have him help. Through her explanation, it seemed he was the one who caused this; if he hadn’t been mischievous and burned that tree, they probably wouldn’t be in trouble.
After looking at his claws, Zheng Yichen hesitated slightly but still stepped forward. As a result, the several young people who could still hold on saw Zheng Yichen’s dragon head popping out and instantly freaked out!
He didn’t know what their hallucinations were. One by one, as if they saw unspeakable horrors, they frantically pulled their hair, scratched their faces, bit at their classmates nearby, and even one finger went straight for the eye. The middle-aged man who could still stay clear was also affected by the atmosphere and couldn’t hold on anymore.
He actually reached out to grab the neck of the young person he had been stabilizing earlier.
The sudden change made Zheng Yichen’s mouth twitch. A faint spiritual light appeared from the tip of his nails, and a conical ice fog burst out from his fingertips, enveloping those who had completely fallen into madness.
The several young people didn’t have strong resistance to the ice fog. Caught in madness, they had no intention to resist actively. Frost quickly formed on their bodies, and their movements became extremely slow.
Zheng Yichen didn’t expect this move to make them regain consciousness. The purpose was to slow them down so he could get close and knock them out one by one before they truly harmed themselves!
The middle-aged man was a bit troublesome. He ignored the soft control of the ice fog and even burst out with additional strong attack power… but it was of no use.
He was directly pressed to the ground by Zheng Yichen with a claw.
“Hey, I’m pretty good!” After tapping the back of the middle-aged man’s head, he fainted as he was still struggling. Zheng Yichen had long practiced being adept at controlling his strength.
After all, since starting Gravity Enhancement training, Loris had required him to hunt only live prey. This made Zheng Yichen, who always planned to brute force things, have to consider adapting to his rapidly increasing strength.
He wasn’t trying to engrave many magics into his consciousness now. Mainly, when reading the Enlightenment Book, he had noticed that each person’s Mental Consciousness has a limited capacity for engraving Rune Patterns. The more engraved, the higher the requirements for Spiritual Power. Although… Zheng Yichen had engraved quite a few, he still hadn’t felt the so-called pressure.
But having mastered many magics, it was a bit overwhelming to choose. Moreover, these magics were basic, and the number he had now didn’t make much difference. Although Loris only said it once, Zheng Yichen remembered it.
For all Professionals, it truly begins after Reaching the Tier. Although in the eyes of ordinary people, those who have mastered sufficient power before Reaching the Tier can also be considered strong.
There were just too many magics in this world… Even extremely powerful beings would purposefully choose the magics they mastered, as the more powerful the Magic Rune Array engraved in consciousness, the more ‘memory’ it occupies.
After subduing these people, Zheng Yichen was a bit worried. How should he handle them?
Leave them be? What if they go mad again after waking up?
“Sending them outside the forest should be fine, right?” Zheng Yichen looked at the Ghost Maid standing quietly beside him.
The latter gently nodded, then immediately shook her head, made a motion of lighting and taking a puff near a tree, which made Zheng Yichen extremely conflicted. Why had he been so mischievous back then? He could have tried during the day…
What the Ghost Maid meant was that it was fine to throw them out before, but now they seemed to have inhaled the gas from burning trees in the Forest of Illusions, so they were more severely affected and needed some time to recover.
“Hmm… in that case, you go back first. I’ll watch these people and send them out after they recover.” After thinking, Zheng Yichen said to the Ghost Maid.
The Ghost Maid shook her head and gestured for a while.
“You mean without you, I can’t go back?”
The Ghost Maid nodded and pointed behind Zheng Yichen. He hesitated for a moment, then exerted force with his feet and directly jumped up. Only after leaving the ground for a distance did he start flapping his wings.
