…
On the rooftop terrace, inside an orange-yellow protective shield, more than ten men and women in various outfits were either sitting or lying down.
As the orange-yellow shield dissipated, these men and women slowly opened their eyes, as if waking from a deep sleep.
“Huh? Where is this? Wasn’t I studying in the Nanda University library?” A young man dressed in casual clothes, who looked like a student, shook his head and muttered to himself, “Did I fall asleep again?”
“Ah!” A scream from the crowd drew everyone’s attention. A girl dressed gaudily was kicking her legs and backing away repeatedly, her face full of disgust.
“S-sorry, miss!” In front of the girl, a middle-aged man in sanitation worker clothes scratched his head awkwardly. When he first woke up, his head had been resting on the girl’s thigh, which was covered in black pantyhose.
“Does anyone know where this is?” A middle-aged, bespectacled fat man looked seriously at the group. His simple question carried a tone of command. This fat man likely held a relatively high position normally, possessing the authoritative demeanor cultivated from long being in charge.
“Damn it, why am I here?” In one corner of the crowd, a young man with a fierce expression looked around. “Where’s Dongzi? We were playing cards together, how come he’s disappeared?”
“SHIT, how is there no signal? This isn’t even the suburbs!” A well-dressed blond young man frowned and cursed under his breath. “How am I supposed to explain this to the board? Is this some commercial spy’s prank?”
“Alright, rookies, quit your complaining!” A tall, sturdy black man pushed through the crowd and stood facing everyone. Another man and woman followed behind him. “Let me introduce myself first. I’m Matthew. The two beside me are Jote and Yoshida Junko. As for your questions, calm down and think about it, and you’ll understand on your own!”
“Since the mission has already started, our time is very tight. Anyone who keeps making noise, I’ll make sure they can’t open their mouth ever again!” The brutish-looking Jote grinned fiercely, pulling a Desert Eagle from his waist and aiming it at the crowd, making a shooting gesture.
The atmosphere on the rooftop terrace froze instantly. Everyone finally realized this wasn’t a game.
The young man who looked like a university student turned pale. His upper body instinctively leaned back as if dodging the gun barrel. However, realizing his own cowardice, he quickly glanced guiltily at the others. Seeing that no one was paying him any attention, he relaxed slightly and secretly clenched his fist.
The girl who had been screaming earlier shrank her neck nervously and hid behind the sanitation worker she disliked. The middle-aged fat man adjusted his glasses and took two steps back, positioning himself within the protection of the crowd.
The young man with the fierce expression fell silent, crossed his arms, and looked coldly at Matthew and the other two.
The well-dressed blond young man, however, remained quite calm. Faced with the threat of the gun, he instead stepped forward, shielding a young woman holding a baby girl behind him, and watched Jote with full alertness.
“Hostage situation? Terrorist attack?”
“Calm down and think and we’ll understand? What does that mean?”
The commotion among the crowd gradually settled. Although these people still didn’t fully understand the situation, their attention became highly focused, and they began trying hard to recall the circumstances before they appeared on the rooftop platform.
“Superstring Space… I know, I know! We must have been transported to the Main God’s space!” The university student-like young man suddenly exclaimed excitedly.
“Phantom Demon World…” The middle-aged fat man shuddered all over. “Th-this… how is that possible!”
“Completing the main Plot Mission earns Credit Points… which can be used to exchange for equipment and skills?” A complex expression appeared on the girl’s face, a mix of bewilderment and pleasant surprise.
“I can become a Superpowered Being too…” A look of confusion flashed in the fierce young man’s eyes, then it solidified into determination, revealing a trace of resolve.
“Looks like these newcomers are adapting quickly!” The black man Matthew exchanged a glance with his two companions, each revealing a meaningful smile. “I just wonder how many of them will survive…”
…
Probationary Apostles? No, it doesn’t seem like it. Judging by their expressions, they never entered Shattered Starry Sky at all; they were directly transported into this Other World!
Superstring Space or Main God’s Space… is it some kind of Other World similar to Shattered Starry Sky?
Is the Main God that so-called DF-numbered Space-Time Manager?
Qin Lun wore a harmless smile on his face. His slightly narrowed eyes swept over the crowd, observing their expressions with extreme care.
His Apostle Soul Mark provided very little explanation for this Otherworld journey. Some hint content was even sealed. Not even the Otherworld Mission content or execution time were displayed.
Clearly, he was an anomaly among this group! No wonder Shattered Starry Sky classified this mission as top secret and sternly warned him not to communicate with any being not of Apostle status.
It seems this so-called non-Apostle status not only refers to the native humans of this Other World but also includes these space-time travelers before him!
How interesting! Qin Lun’s eyes slowly brightened, his heart filled with lively curiosity and interest. However, he soon keenly sensed a watching gaze behind him. He couldn’t help but frown and look back.
Not far behind him, a middle-aged priest with neatly combed-back hair and a kindly expression winked at him.
Damn it, why is he here too! He must have been blocked from view earlier by that young woman holding the baby girl, which is why I didn’t see him at first!
Qin Lun curled his lip, turned his head back expressionlessly, and completely ignored the priest’s “greeting.”
Although Qin Lun’s displeasure wasn’t shown on his face, Hill could see it at a glance. He couldn’t help but smile faintly and also pretended not to know him, turning his back.
The Shepherd and the Dissector hadn’t had much contact. They entered Shattered Starry Sky at the same time, and the time they spent passing their first Otherworld Mission was also similar. It wasn’t strange for their Otherworld Missions to clash this time. After all, Shattered Starry Sky had thrown all the Apostles from a certain region of the Boundary Dimension into this abnormal world teleportation port.
…
“You three are senior Reincarnators, right?” The university student-like young man happily walked towards Matthew and the other two. “I’m glad to be your partner…”
“Stop, don’t come any closer to us!” Jote’s face darkened as he waved the pistol. “You’re not qualified to be our companion yet.”
“Tch, acting all high and mighty! If it weren’t for that gun in your hand…” The young man’s smile stiffened on his face. He flushed red with embarrassment and muttered something, trying to save face.
“Alright, it seems you all have a general understanding of your situation. As Reincarnators of the same faction, our obligation ends here. We wish you all a pleasant mission!” Matthew grinned, leading Jote and the Japanese woman named Yoshida Junko towards the rooftop’s staircase iron door.
“You… aren’t you going to take everyone along to do the mission?” The crowd was slightly stunned, not quite understanding. The gaudily dressed girl was the first to speak up, unable to hold back.
“Why should we take you along to do the mission?” Yoshida Junko, who had been silent until now, suddenly let out a cold laugh and spoke mockingly.
“Since we’re all in the same faction, shouldn’t we unite?” The middle-aged fat man pushed up his glasses and said impassively, “There’s strength in numbers!”
“Strength in numbers? With you people?” Jote scoffed, shook his head, and showed a look of disdain.
Anger flashed across the middle-aged fat man’s face. It had been a long time since anyone had mocked him to his face. Usually, in his own domain, everyone treated him with the utmost respect; he had never received this kind of treatment before.
However, the fat man, accustomed to being in a high position, was used to reading people’s expressions. He knew now wasn’t the time to throw his weight around. He said nothing more and instead plastered a seemingly tolerant smile on his face.
“What do you want?” The middle-aged man in the sanitation worker uniform from the crowd suddenly spoke up. “Do you want something from us in exchange for your help?”
“Finally, someone who gets it…” Matthew and the other two stopped walking and turned back with mocking expressions. “This is your first lesson as Reincarnators: effort equals reward. There’s no such thing as a free lunch!”
