Chapter 169: Zhong Yunxiu

The next morning, Gao Jing drove to Shanghai.

He took the same Yunhu Highway again, taking over two hours to reach the edge of Magic City.

But for the city part from the edge to the Jin Mao Grand Hyatt Hotel.

He actually spent a full four hours on it!

Coinciding with the small New Year holiday, Magic City’s main streets were packed with countless cars.

Gao Jing’s BMW had an out-of-town license plate, so he couldn’t take the inner ring elevated roads, making the result as bad as you’d expect.

Gao Jing was stuck in the traffic jam for a long time.

He really wished he could wake the Titan Totem at once and change into a tiny Giant, so he could flip away all the cars blocking him.

Damn!

But something even more annoying came right after.

Finally, when the traffic eased up, he reached the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

Then Ji Yu called and said she couldn’t come tonight.

Because Ji Yu’s classmates found out she was in Shanghai and quickly planned a reunion.

They insisted she had to come.

Ji Yu had gone to college in Magic City back then.

After graduation, many classmates stayed in Shanghai for their jobs, including her close friends from the same dorm.

With everyone being so warm and eager, Ji Yu couldn’t refuse.

So she had to disappoint Gao Jing.

“After the reunion tonight, I have to have a pajama talk with my old roommates,” Senior Schoolmate said softly. “Tomorrow night I’ll spend New Year’s Eve with you, and I’ll make it up to you well.”

Well, what could Gao Jing say?

He could only look forward to that make-up time tomorrow night.

Though Ji Yu and he were way close, their bond wasn’t like that of real sweethearts.

Ji Yu was a very independent person.

She wasn’t the type to cling to a tree trunk like a vine, needing someone else to live.

She had her own life and friends, and she never thought of being Gao Jing’s caged songbird.

True, Gao Jing loved every bit of joy with Ji Yu.

But he also valued her wishes and choices.

After finishing the hotel check-in, Gao Jing checked the time.

It was nearly food o’clock.

The Grand Hyatt had its own places to eat, in fact many.

But Gao Jing felt like eating something else and planned to fill up first, then take a walk and look around.

So he decided to go out for food.

Still scared off from the previous jam, Gao Jing guessed traffic in Magic City would be even worse at night.

He just left the BMW M760Li in the hotel parking lot and walked to the subway station.

He looked up a food guide on his phone: a few special spots near People’s Square got good notes.

So he hopped on the subway and went there.

At People’s Square, Gao Jing squeezed through the crowded crowd out of the station.

Standing roadside, he turned on the map app.

He’d just typed in the place he picked when a bright red sports car pulled up right in front of him.

“Hey, handsome!” The car window slid down, and inside, a girl driver grinned as she asked, “Where to? Need a lift?”

Her voice was super chirpy, soft and nice like a bird’s song.

Huh? Gao Jing gaped a bit: Handsome? Meaning me?

“Yep, you got it!” Folks nearby stopped and stared, everyone’s eyes turning green with envy. Wow, a hot girl in a fancy car just handed herself to him? Was being that good-looking such a big deal?

Gao Jing had the answer but was still puzzled.

Sure, his face and aura were way better than before, but not this crazy!

Had he bumped into some scary girl mischief-maker?

The driver urged, “Gao Jing, quick, jump in; can’t stop here long.”

What? Gao Jing grew more shocked—she knew his name too?

He thought it over, then pulled open the door and slid inside.

Even if she really was a bad girl, Gao Jing the Giant-saint had ways to fight off spirits!

Like that magic staff from the legend, weighing thirteen thousand five hundred jin—yeah, he was ready.

Soon after Gao Jing sat down, the driver stepped on the pedal.

That red Ferrari zoomed out, roaring to join the cars ahead. Driving skills? Top-notch! But no old driver she—barely eighteen or nineteen, with a pretty face totally rocking her youth!

Just now, Gao Jing made her out.

This girl who’d dragged him into her Ferrari on the open road was exactly the looker who’d sat with Miss Su back at Qi Bao Zhai last time! Her tall, awesome shape back then had stuck in his mind sharp. Yet he hadn’t remembered her face too well, so hadn’t placed her at first.

“Oh, it’s you,” he said.

“I’m Zhong Yunxiu,” the Ferrari beauty smiled sweetly. “I know you’re Gao Jing; you fooled my cousin’s sister out of 38 million!”

“Fooled? That deal worked out for both sides!” Gao Jing’s face flared hot red with veins bulging his forehead. “How can you blame a man without cause…”

Zhong Yunxiu laughed lightly, “You think I’ve never read ‘Kong Yiji’?”

She shot Gao Jing a sideways glance; her charm could not have been more enchanting.

Gao Jing couldn’t help but cough and asked, “Where are you taking me?”

Feeling bored, he was just teasing the girl.

“My friends are hosting a party tonight for a birthday,” Zhong Yunxiu explained cheerfully. “They said everyone must bring a guy partner. I don’t have a boyfriend, and since I ran into you… you get the idea.”

“I don’t get it.”

Gao Jing half-smiled, half-winced. “I don’t even know you.”

“Don’t you know me now?”

Zhong Yunxiu looked indignant. “Want my spot? The line could wrap from Downtown to the Outskirts! Consider yourself lucky, okay?”

“Just drop me off ahead.”

Gao Jing lost interest. “Find someone else ‘lucky’.”

Every second of his time counted for thousands! Who had time to play house with some kid?

Zhong Yunxiu pouted.

Honestly, she rarely met men who could resist her charms.

Well, unless they were into guys.

“Fine, I owe you.”

Seeing Gao Jing really meant to leave, she offered brightly, “Are you in the jade business? I know customers — lots like my cousin! Total pushovers!”

Talking smack about your CEO cousin? Wonder if her factory-owner brother heard that.

Gao Jing sighed. “Miss Su is no pushover. She actually got great value.”

Zhong Yunxiu smiled knowingly.

Her look screamed, Keep bragging and I’ll pretend I don’t know better.

“Alright.”

Gao Jing shifted for comfort and buckled his seatbelt.

“Free tonight anyway. Might as well tag along.”

“Just remember: temporary partner, not boyfriend. Don’t get any ideas, okay?”

“The nerve!”

Zhong Yunxiu’s eyes flew wide — wider than sauce dishes!

“You! You—! I! I—!”

She sputtered, too shocked to speak.

She’d met conceited guys. Just never one quite like Gao Jing!

The urge to shove him out of the car returned. Wasted offer indeed!

“Quit that stuttering.”

Gao Jing smiled coolly. “Focus on the road.”

Zhong Yunxiu’s teeth nearly shattered with how hard she clenched them.

Even so, she didn’t dare teach him a lesson. Not while driving her Ferrari, at least.

Something shifted then.

The beauty stopped fuming. Instead, a sly curl crept onto her lips.

Just you wait!

Her glare practically shouted the words.

Too bad Gao Jing missed it.

He’d pulled out his phone and was already scrolling Kuaivin.
