Yang Qi saw the tears on the little ones’ faces. He saw Granny Bai’s worry. He saw Auntie Chen’s anger. He saw the helplessness and fear on Uncle Chen’s face. He saw Manzi’s stubbornness. He saw the smug look on Chen Dali’s face. He saw the ferociousness in the eyes of the thugs!

In an instant, Yang Qi’s face turned as cold as unmelting ice, and his heart held a rage like a volcano about to erupt.

His speed involuntarily became extremely fast. Like a ghost, he appeared in front of the thug who was about to kick Manzi. He reached out with his hand, grabbed the thug’s neck, and lifted him straight up from the ground, raising him high in the air!

His eyes looked like they wanted to devour someone! His state seemed as if he had fallen into a demonic rage!

Everyone was shocked by Yang Qi’s sudden appearance and this action he took. Only Manzi loosened his bite, looked up at Yang Qi, revealed a silly grin, and called out: “Brother Yang Qi.”

This call sent a jolt through Yang Qi’s heart.

The thugs nearby also snapped out of it and shouted, “Who the hell are you? Let go now!” Saying this, they charged towards Yang Qi.

Yang Qi scooped Manzi up from the ground with one arm. With his other hand, he directly flung the thug he was holding high into the air towards the charging men. Several people collided and fell in a heap on the ground.

“Brother Yang Qi!”

“Ah Yang!”

“Yang Qi!”

The little ones and the adults all gasped in surprise. By then, Yang Qi had already carried Manzi and retreated a good distance away.

“Fool Yang, you’re pretty strong!”

Chen Dali knew Yang Qi. Although he was startled by Yang Qi’s move, he still yelled, “This is our family’s business. Stay out of it.”

The thugs also got to their feet and made as if to rush and attack Yang Qi.

Yang Qi paid them no mind. He carried Manzi over to Granny Bai and Auntie Chen and said, “Auntie Chen, please take all the little ones inside. Grandma, you go in too. I’ll handle things here. Don’t worry.”

Granny Bai frowned slightly, seemed thoughtful for a moment, then nodded and said, “Be careful yourself. I’ll go in and call the police.”

With that, she and Auntie Chen took the children into the house.

Only then did Yang Qi turn to face Chen Dali and the others. His eyes were still cold, but he no longer had that seemingly insane, “demonic” air.

That shout from Huang Man had already driven away the “demonic” rage from the depths of Yang Qi’s heart. If not for that, the thug whose neck he had grabbed and lifted would have had his neck snapped by Yang Qi already. Startled back to his senses, Yang Qi remembered the little ones and his grandmother were still around. Deep down, he did not want to show his violent side in front of them.

Chen Dali stood in the middle of the thugs and shouted angrily at Yang Qi.

The thugs cursed and laughed.

“Dali, enough!”

Du Ren gave the order. Then he walked to the very back of the big Courtyard and called out, “Granny Bai, Du Ren is here. Please come out safely!”

The door opened, and Granny Bai came out. Seeing Du Ren, she smiled and said, “Chief Du is here. Sorry to trouble you.”

Du Ren’s attitude towards Granny Bai was very respectful. He dared not treat Granny Bai as an ordinary old lady. This was the granny even the Deputy Mayor would serve tea to and respectfully call Auntie Bai! If not for that, this Chief of the brigade wouldn’t have personally taken charge over a few thugs causing trouble, nor would the police response have been so fast.

The conversation between the two made everyone in the Courtyard freeze. Yang Qi was alright; he had heard Shen Zhengfeng mention that Granny Bai had connections with the Deputy Mayor. He just didn’t expect the police to arrive so quickly; it seemed he’d have to have Shen Zhengfeng wait at the entrance for a while. The thugs, however, broke out in a cold sweat. They had dealt with the police before, but when had they ever seen police, especially criminal police, speak so respectfully to ordinary citizens, let alone the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Brigade?

“But, Granny Bai, what about these people?” Du Ren pointed at the thugs piled together, somewhat puzzled.

Granny Bai had been watching the situation in the Courtyard through the doors and windows out of worry earlier, so of course she knew what had happened. She called out “Yang Qi” to have him come over and said to Du Ren, “I thought there might be a bigger problem, but it turns out this young man here is quite strong and subdued those thugs. I’m afraid we’ve made Chief Du come all the way for nothing.”

“No trouble at all. The important thing is that you’re safe.” Du Ren smiled and looked at Yang Qi. “I didn’t expect you to be so skilled, young man, subduing these thugs all by yourself.” As he spoke, he suddenly remembered something and asked, “What’s your name?”

“Yang Qi.”

“From Ruiyun High School?”
