Chapter 18: Lu Liangjie Transfers Schools
Chapter 18: Lu Liangjie Transfers Schools
Yang Qi knew very well what kind of associations his deliberate verbal guidance would trigger in Shen Zhengfeng’s mind. This was precisely what he wanted. The moment he revealed the Phantom Chariot, he had thought of this.
This way, without him having to say anything, this Shen Zhengfeng certainly wouldn’t dare mention his affairs to anyone. His mouth was effectively sealed shut.
The intake of a vast amount of knowledge, combined with Yang Qi’s currently very agile mind, was enough to make him a master-level psychological expert.
“Tomorrow, I will contact you.”
After saying this, Yang Qi got on the Phantom Chariot and left the beach.
How Shen Zhengfeng would get back next was none of Yang Qi’s concern.
The Phantom Chariot flew above the Courtyard, lowered, and Yang Qi jumped straight down. The chariot transformed into a bracelet and whooshed onto Yang Qi’s wrist automatically. Landing in the Courtyard, he glanced around. Seeing nothing amiss, he felt relieved. He huddled in the bookstore, not reading nor practicing the Meditation Technique. Instead, he carefully thought over the Superpower List, Hypnosis, the lottery, the Phantom Chariot, and all the events that had happened recently, connecting them all together.
There had been quite a lot happening these past few days. Even with Yang Qi’s sharp mind, he needed to stop and sort things out. Yang Qi wanted to proceed steadily and step by step, not allowing any mistakes.
After thinking for a long time, he finally hypnotized himself to enter deep sleep, seeking to recover his energy in the shortest time possible. Moreover, deep sleep had another benefit: developing the brain’s potential. Although the development from deep sleep entered through his current Hypnosis skills was extremely limited for Yang Qi, it was better than nothing.
Yang Qi guessed that on that planet SM69, Hypnosis must be very popular, and its residents’ brain potentials must be developed to an extremely vast extent, far surpassing Earthlings. Otherwise, they couldn’t have developed such high-tech things like the Phantom Chariot, and that was just patrol-level equipment. It was also possible that so many superpowers were related to brain potential development.
…
The rooster’s crow summoned the Golden Crow from the sea’s depths. Dawn arrived, the east turned pale, Wanwu awoke amidst rosy clouds.
Li Youde woke up on the floor, aching all over. He struggled to get up with difficulty, puzzled about why he had slept on the floor. Seeing his wife still sleeping, he cursed her as a lazy woman, woke her up, and sneezed several times in a row. Wanting to check the time, he found his phone missing. He searched everywhere but couldn’t find it; it had vanished into thin air.
Not long after, Mr. Wang arrived. He said Boss Shen had called, telling them not to interfere with the Courtyard matter any further. Not only did they not get paid, but they were also fiercely scolded and even threatened. They were told to watch their step, or else he’d get a few neighborhood thugs to beat them up every time they were seen.
The two were extremely frustrated but didn’t dare act out. They had some idea of who Boss Shen was; he wasn’t someone they could afford to offend. They just cursed their own bad luck. They also didn’t dare spread the word, as what they did wasn’t honorable and would lead to being cursed and scorned by everyone.
Bad people need bad people to deal with.
After seeing off Mr. Wang, Li Youde kept sneezing repeatedly, feeling weak. He just thought he had caught a cold from sleeping on the floor last night and didn’t pay it much mind. Not many days later, his condition worsened. Sent to the hospital, he stayed for a full three months and was left with a hidden ailment. During this time, when Mr. Wang visited him in the hospital, he got into a car accident. Although unharmed physically, he suffered financial loss. These weren’t caused by any tricks from Yang Qi, but were truly coincidental accidents. However, it still fit the old saying: good deeds bring good rewards, bad deeds bring bad retribution.
Of course, all this was later talk.
…
Auntie Chen was still in the hospital with Manzi, so certainly no one was making breakfast. Therefore, after getting up, Yang Qi went out to buy breakfast, woke the little ones, had them wash up, and eat. The two kids who cried yesterday were now back to normal. Yang Qi didn’t question them further about yesterday’s scary incident, even considering making them forget, as it wasn’t a particularly good memory.
“Granny Bai, I’ll take these guys to school, then go to school myself. You have breakfast first too.”
“Alright.”
Granny Bai was also up. Watching Yang Qi bustling about, her eyes were filled with both joy and emotion.
These little ones were in elementary school, at the nearby Chenguan Sixth Elementary. After dropping them off, Yang Qi originally intended to withdraw money to buy a phone to contact people at the Courtyard and Shen Zhengfeng. But it was still early morning; what phone store would be open? It seemed it would have to wait until after school in the evening.
During broad daylight, Yang Qi naturally couldn’t drive the Phantom Chariot to school. Seeing he still had plenty of time, he didn’t take the bus but chose to run instead.
“Nothing’s wrong, right?”
Yang Qi had suddenly asked for leave yesterday, and Lu Liangjie knew it was related to his family, so he asked with concern upon seeing Yang Qi.
“Nothing’s wrong.”
A whole morning passed. Yang Qi kept feeling Lu Liangjie was acting strange. Whether in class or in the afternoon, he seemed distracted and unsettled. He rarely paid attention in class, and as soon as class ended, he’d run out to chat randomly with various classmates he knew. After the last lesson, before Yang Qi could speak, Lu Liangjie said to him: “Yang Qi, I’m leaving.”
“Leaving?”
Hearing this, Yang Qi’s heart skipped a beat.
“I’m transferring schools, to Shanghai. My dad has already found a school for me. I leave today at noon, the flight’s at 12:30.” Lu Liangjie grinned, forcing a smile.
“Because of Qin Muchu?” Yang Qi asked.
Lu Liangjie shrugged. “My dad found out about my conflict with Qin Muchu at school. To avoid anything bigger happening, he’s making me transfer to Shanghai. To prevent my dad from possibly having to go apologize to the Qin family for me in the future, I chose to agree.”
He chuckled softly, not sure if to comfort Yang Qi or himself, and added, “Actually, it doesn’t make much difference to me. Where I study is studying anyway. I’m destined to buy my way into university in the end.”
Yang Qi stared into Lu Liangjie’s eyes and said seriously, “You’re just feeling very unwilling in your heart, right?”
“Yeah! Leaving because I’m scared and backing down feels worse, more unbearable, than being kicked out!” Lu Liangjie was still smiling, but there wasn’t a hint of happiness in his eyes. “But, so what! Everything I have now is my dad’s. I can’t take his things and clash with others without his permission! When the day comes that I have my own things, I’ll definitely have more backbone, more courage than now!”
Stopping his laugh, Lu Liangjie said again, “Yang Qi, you will absolutely be someone with a boundless future. If you can, just bear it for now. Pulling back a fist isn’t cowardice, it’s to strike out better next time. All the influence of Qin Muchu’s family is absolutely beyond what you can imagine or resist right now.”
Yang Qi’s expression was very serious. He felt Lu Liangjie seemed to have matured a lot overnight. He showed a bright smile and said, “Don’t worry. Although I really want to rush up and punch that guy right now, to let you leave with peace of mind, I’ll hold back. At least until you arrive in Shanghai.”
“Hahaha!” Lu Liangjie laughed loudly, punched Yang Qi’s arm, and said, “I knew you wouldn’t be so easy to persuade! That’s the you I know!”
Lu Liangjie took out his phone and handed it to Yang Qi. “Don’t have anything good to give you. Keep this as a memento. You absolutely cannot refuse. Your family can contact you more easily, right? And I’ll call you often from Shanghai. I’ve already taken out my SIM card. Once you get a number, call my old one.”
Lu Liangjie leaned close to Yang Qi and whispered with a sly grin, “It also has my three years’ worth of painstakingly saved classic movies. All uncensored, you know.”
Without waiting for Yang Qi to agree or not, he picked up his forever-bookless backpack, walked out while raising a hand high and waving, saying, “Nothing to miss really. Besides not having a chance to chase my Goddess anymore, the only regret is not getting to witness your awesome life further.”
“Our lives are just beginning, aren’t they?” Yang Qi said loudly.
Lu Liangjie’s body paused for a moment. Then he strode towards the door, his raised hand forming a fist with a thumbs-up.
There were still classmates in the classroom, all looking bewildered at Yang Qi and Lu Liangjie’s actions. Yang Qi ignored them, his face wearing a bright, brilliant smile. He just watched Lu Liangjie walk out of the classroom without seeing him off, holding his phone in hand.
Only after Lu Liangjie left the classroom and his footsteps faded did Yang Qi’s smile fade. The brilliance and brightness vanished, leaving only calmness and the turmoil beneath that calm.
He walked out of the classroom very calmly, went to eat very calmly, then spent a whole afternoon very calmly in the library until the afternoon was almost over.
He went to the Academic Affairs Director’s office. Yang Zirong happened to be in.
“I was just about to look for you, and here you are.”
Seeing Yang Qi, Yang Zirong showed a kindly smile and said, “Your long leave has been approved. I guaranteed the principal that your grades absolutely wouldn’t be affected by the long leave before he approved it.”
“Thank you, Director.”
Yang Qi took the leave slip, returned the bank card to Yang Zirong, exchanged a few words, and left the office. Just as he was about to walk outside the school, he was stopped by a boy in sportswear, at least 1.85 meters tall.
“You’re Yang Qi, right?” the boy asked with a healthy smile.
“Yeah.”
Yang Qi had an excellent memory, so he recognized this boy. He was a prominent figure at Ruiyun, the school basketball team captain, Li Mingwei. Yang Qi also recalled that this person was present that day when he was in a good mood and made two shots. His visit today likely had something to do with that incident. Yang Qi thought to himself; generally, not many people at school really remembered him. Could it be such a coincidence that someone who recognized him was there that day?
“Let me introduce myself. I’m Li Mingwei, from the school basketball team. I’m here because our coach sent me, and I personally also wanted to get to know you, the sharpshooter, sooner.” Li Mingwei’s smile was healthy and pleasant to see.
Yang Qi thought, just as expected, and asked with a smile, “May I ask what your coach wanted you to find me for?”
“The general situation is this: your two super-long three-pointers the other day really impressed us. Our coach is a middle-aged weird uncle who doesn’t want to let go of any good basketball prospects he sees, so he sent me to ask you to come talk.” Li Mingwei said.
