Chapter 489: The Evil Spirits Acting Everywhere
Chapter 489: The Evil Spirits Acting Everywhere
Fang Cheng asked in confusion, “How did I betray your trust?”
Victor’s flat tone finally carried a hint of irritation: “What did you send me yesterday? Your prized collection was a kids’ animation?”
He’d truly wanted to help Fang Cheng settle his affairs, only to be tricked.
Had modern manners been eaten by dogs?
Fang Cheng grinned. “Who said collections can’t be kids’ animations? Those are my childhood memories. Every time I watch them, I relive my carefree youth—pure nostalgia.”
Victor ignored the nonsense. “You’d better draft your will early.”
“I’ll share my last words after I’m dead.”
Fang Cheng chuckled. “I know what you’re after. Don’t worry—I’ll send it soon.”
Victor snorted. “Think I’ll fall for this twice?”
He hung up, rudely.
Fang Cheng shrugged and sent a new cloud link via the social media app.
Department of Homeland Security.
Victor opened the link to find a folder labeled “Study Documents.”
Still skeptical, he downloaded it anyway.
The file was a video.
This time, Victor didn’t bother closing his office door or muting the speakers—certain Fang Cheng had sent another joke.
The video showed a buzzcut young man in an interview:
“24, a student. 170 cm tall, 74 kg. Not into sports, but I work out. Solid build…”
“Well… my place has a rooftop… wanna sunbathe?”
“Is red tea okay?”
Victor rubbed his chin, oddly engrossed.
That day, DHS staff heard foul shouts erupting from Investigator Victor’s office.
…
Day three since opening the invitation letter.
The Grim Reaper’s attacks would intensify.
Staying home risked destroying the apartment—yesterday’s assault proved that.
Fang Cheng refused to house-hunt again.
So he and Ye Yuqing decided: a picnic.
Remote wilderness. Let the Reaper try its tricks there.
The female ghost Ye Yuqing had tamed stayed behind. With the doll, she wouldn’t vanish—perfect guard.
Waving goodbye to the specter at the second-floor window, they left with their items.
Nearby was a park. The two walked there directly and stopped at a scenic spot.
A lake bordered the area, surrounded by undulating green grass with only a short tree nearby.
They picnicked beneath that small tree.
Fang Cheng refused to believe they’d meet another out-of-control bus or car bomb here.
Even if this tree fell, it couldn’t crush anyone to death.
Unless the Grim Reaper crashed a runaway plane into them.
Since they planned to stay all day, they’d packed many items. Thankfully Fang Cheng’s shadow space remained spacious enough to store everything.
Ye Yuqing lay on the grass playing her usual game while Fang Cheng practiced his Blood Source ability.
Though classified as level 1, Blood Source’s power already surpassed many level 4 abilities.
All blood abilities had merged into this source, keeping their original power while making them easier to use.
Its potential seemed limitless – Fang Cheng suspected this single ability might elevate him to disaster-level monster status.
He imagined aircraft and tanks blotting out the sky, an unstoppable steel tide sweeping across the land.
No human military, but an army born from Blood Source.
Isis had likely abandoned developing this ability after embracing Idealism.
As Fang Cheng trained and Ye Yuqing gamed, half the day slipped by peacefully.
Neither Grim Reaper nor evil spirits appeared, as if they’d vanished completely.
Unnoticed by both, a doll materialized in the tree’s canopy, hidden among dense leaves – perhaps too wary to approach closer.
The nearby lake’s surface suddenly bubbled like boiling water. Black mud rose in foamy bursts from below.
A pitch-black hand emerged from the depths, clawing at the grassy bank.
A dripping-wet figure hauled itself ashore – over two meters tall, wearing a hockey mask and clutching a rusted machete.
The masked giant fixed its stare on the picnickers beneath the tree and began trudging toward them.
Ye Yuqing lay facing the sky while Fang Cheng’s back faced the lake. Neither noticed the silent approach of the waterlogged figure.
Seaweed clung to its soggy form as it moved soundlessly across the grass despite its bulk.
In moments, it stood behind Fang Cheng. The rusted blade rose high, aimed at his neck –
Golden chains materialized mid-swing, binding the attacker’s limbs and body in an unbreakable grip.
Fang Cheng turned leisurely, then exclaimed: “Holy crap! Jason?!”
Ye Yuqing dropped her phone, shocked not by the intruder but the gleaming restraints: “No way! The Chains of Heaven?!”
She gaped at Fang Cheng. “When did you learn this?!”
Those legendary chains could suppress even divine enemies.
Ye Yuqing was a Proxy Goddess, also possessing divinity. If Fang Cheng used this thing to tie her up, it would be too dangerous.
Fang Cheng shook his head. “Just a cheap imitation.”
This was simply a new application of his Blood Source ability.
The Blood Source could alter blood into any color. By scattering dust-sized blood particles into the air and making them transparent, they became indistinguishable from actual dust.
When needed, he could gather and multiply these blood particles without requiring blood to flow from his body directly, making it stealthier and more efficient.
Currently, Fang Cheng could only disperse blood within a twenty-meter diameter around himself.
Within this range, all enemies would be surrounded by blood particles. Even their breaths would draw blood into their bodies, creating lethal threats.
The blood also served as an alarm system, detecting anyone entering the area.
This was Fang Cheng’s countermeasure against the Grim Reaper, now accidentally used on Jason.
Though Jason moved silently, the moment he crawled out of the water, he’d been wrapped in airborne blood particles.
Using chains to bind him was just Fang Cheng’s twisted humor.
“Don’t like gold? There are other colors.”
The chains restraining water ghost Jason immediately shifted through blue, red, purple, and black in rapid succession.
Watching the golden chains cycle colors like cheap party lights, Ye Yuqing felt their mystique evaporate.
Since they weren’t the real Chains of Heaven, she lost interest. “Why’s Jason here?”
“Normal for him,” Fang Cheng explained. “He guest stars in ghost shows across North America – more famous than Sadako here.”
“That’s not what I meant!” Ye Yuqing retorted. “Why’s he in the wilderness? Shouldn’t he haunt houses?”
Fang Cheng instinctively expanded his blood particles to their 20-meter limit, immediately spotting a doll-shaped object in the treetops.
The Evil Spirit Doll tumbled down uncontrollably as Fang Cheng activated his new ‘Interference with Reality’ ability.
Its mocking smile now looked strained as it landed in his grasp.
Jason was clearly the doll’s summoned evil spirit, yet Sato Mai’s documents stated it should only summon spirits to homes.
“Why summon Jason outdoors?” Fang Cheng wondered aloud. A realization struck. “Has the Grim Reaper teamed up with this doll?”
The combined forces of Grim Reaper attacks and doll-summoned spirits might explain Jason’s wilderness appearance.
Fang Cheng eyed the water ghost. Despite being unkillable, Jason’s mediocre fighting power contradicted the Grim Reaper’s escalating threat pattern.
While Fang Cheng pondered, Jason stared blankly: (。_。)
His body suddenly bulged from two meters to three, snapping the chains. His machete grew into a massive blade.
Before Jason could swing his weapon, Ye Yuqing’s kick sent him flying. She’d already put down her phone and donned armor.
“My turn.” She marched forward eagerly.
Fang Cheng gripped the doll, confirming his theory. The Grim Reaper had indeed collaborated with it – otherwise why would Jason transform like some magical girl?
Even transformed, Jason’s Hazard Level A strength posed no challenge to Ye Yuqing.
Fang Cheng’s real concern lay elsewhere. The girls at home kept growing stronger, and stronger girls meant bigger troubles. With Iyaya the chaos-lover egging them on…
He sighed. Domestic peace was becoming impossible.
