Chapter 66: Troubles

The stage where one could truly rapidly enhance their ‘comprehension’ of magic was still something that happened after reaching the tier. After all, that so-called comprehension was like exam questions. Without having practiced that type of question, only having heard of it, one could never compare to someone who practiced such questions daily.

“Huh? Do you like this?” Zheng Yichen asked curiously, looking at the Ghostly Little Maid who had come before him holding an MP5 submachine gun. He had also created magically modified versions of automatic rifles, but due to production limitations, he had temporarily abandoned making that type of firearm.

Firearms were easy to make, but bullets were a hassle. Without equipment, was he supposed to make each bullet one by one with his hands? Even if a magazine held thirty rounds, and he made one bullet per minute, that meant spending half an hour just to make bullets that would be spent in seconds…

With that effort, he might as well do something else!

He could produce firearms, but as for machine tools and such, Zheng Yichen considered himself just an ordinary person. Even with all the knowledge from his past life, he couldn’t create those.

The Ghostly Little Maid gave a gentle nod.

“Take it to play with. The bullets inside are limited, so don’t fire them all at once.” Zheng Yichen waved his hand dismissively. The bullets were just ordinary bullets. There were no people in the Forest of Illusions, and besides, this gun’s power wasn’t that high. He could stand there and let her empty a few magazines without issue.

This Ghostly Little Maid was the one who played with the RPG last time. Since that incident, she had developed a notable hobby: an extra fondness for firearms. Every time Zheng Yichen made a new gun, she would be the first to come and observe.

While observing, she would also look at him with admiring eyes. Was this probably his first fan? Shaking his head, Zheng Yichen pulled out a pile of parts from a large bag hanging on his body. This bag was left by Loris; it was a space-expansion item.

“Huh? This?” Seeing a reacting emblem placed to the side, Zheng Yichen raised an eyebrow slightly. He put down what he was working on and returned to the tavern in Sta City. Belin, who had been waiting, guided him to a seat. Knowing what Zheng Yichen needed, she didn’t beat around the bush and got straight to the point.

“The person you’re looking for has been hidden by people from the Sanctuary Church. Even we can’t find out much in a short time. However, one thing is certain: she is safe for now. The Sanctuary Church people want to find something from her…” At this point, Belin looked at Zheng Yichen, watching him for a full half minute. Seeing that Zheng Yichen didn’t offer any response, she continued, “There’s another thing you should be aware of. The Sanctuary Church’s knight order has been gathering recently, with the Forest of Illusions as their target. Do you need our help?”

“No… we can handle this matter ourselves.”

Back in the castle, Zheng Yichen swung his dragon head and thumped it on the ground. Loris had been gone for less than a month, and so much trouble had already arisen! The Sanctuary Church’s knight order was targeting the Forest of Illusions. At this, Zheng Yichen immediately thought it might be because Petty had sold him out…

But that possibility seemed too small. After all, she was bound by a Contract and couldn’t reveal anything about him. Could it be that they weren’t searching for him, but another target? Yet that also seemed unlikely! Petty was taken away by the Sanctuary Church people.

“Don’t think about using your old methods to get anything from her.” Dan Marina looked at the two Sanctuary Church knights before her. Their armor was shiny, but it bore some dark engravings. They were not ordinary knights of the Sanctuary Church. “Using your old ways will only get you a dead body; you won’t obtain any information.”

Seeing one of them about to speak, Dan Marina cut him off directly. “Don’t talk about extracting information from the Soul. Any information involving your target, if she reveals even a trace, will trigger the Contract’s punishment. Do you think you can snatch her Soul from a Contract set by a Witch?”

“Thank you, Sister Dan Marina.” Only after Dan Marina chased away the two Church knights did Petty, who had been unable to speak under the pressure, regain her voice. When they came for her, she had a strong premonition: if she were taken away, her fate would be terrible!

“Don’t mind it. They’re just a bunch of muscle heads accustomed to using brute force.” Dan Marina turned back and looked at Petty with a gentle smile. “You’re quite lucky. What was meant to restrain you has now become your protective talisman.”
