Chapter 28: Asking for Insults
Chapter 28: Asking for Insults
Qin Li narrowed his eyes, his gaze flickering. He was not very familiar with most of the Qin Family members, but this voice was very familiar to him. It was Qin Yonggang, one of the core figures of the Qin Family, the head steward, and Qin Li’s fourth uncle!
Qin Li could never forget that when he first arrived in this world, his mother Qin Hanyue had been humiliated by this fourth uncle’s concubine and had wept silently by his bedside.
His mother did not want to speak ill of her own brother and told Qin Li that Fourth Brother was not around. But Qin Li knew very well—what did “not around” mean? It clearly meant he did not want to get involved!
Admittedly, they still cared somewhat about his mother, but as for him, this nephew… they just couldn’t stand the sight of him! If not for him, Qin Hanyue would probably have been chosen to enter the Imperial Palace as a consort long ago, and the entire Qin Family would have prospered because of it.
The door of the small tavern creaked open, and sunlight immediately streamed in. A tall figure blocked the entrance, scanning everyone inside, his gaze stopping on Qin Li.
“I wondered who it was, so it’s you, you little beast!”
Qin Yonggang cast a cold glance at Qin Li, then said with a haughty expression to Ahu and the others, “Did you think that by siding with him, you could recklessly offend the Qin Family? Well, you are very wrong. This little beast can’t even protect himself now, and he has no relation whatsoever with the Qin Family. But you dared to beat up people from my Qin Family—I’ll have to settle this debt with you properly!”
“Heh, I never thought the famous Fourth Master Qin of Huangsha City would stand up for a few scumbags and trash from the family. How rare!” You show no kindness, so don’t blame me for being unrighteous. Qin Yonggang’s repeated use of “little beast” had thoroughly enraged Qin Li. Qin Li stood up, looked disdainfully at his fourth uncle, and sneered, “Qin Yonggang, if you have the guts, kill me. Step over my corpse to touch my brothers. If you don’t have the guts, then get the hell out of here!”
“What! You little beast, you’re asking for death!” Fourth Master Qin had been a person of status and position in Huangsha City for many years and had never been insulted like this before. He flew into a rage and cursed furiously, “Do you think I really don’t dare to kill you, you little beast?”
To tell the truth, Qin Yonggang had come precisely because Qin Li was here. Otherwise, for a few Qin Family branch members, even if he intervened, he wouldn’t have needed to show up himself. He happened to be passing by, and when he heard Qin Li was present, his anger immediately flared up. If not for this little beast, he would have long since become the emperor’s uncle!
“Yes, of course you don’t dare!” Qin Li smiled as he looked at Qin Yonggang, who stood at the door without entering, and mocked, “With your measly courage, do you dare offend the Shangguan Family? You don’t dare! If Qin Hongyuan found out, he would definitely break your dog legs!”
“You…” Qin Yonggang’s face turned bright red with anger. At this moment, he truly understood why his two nephews Qin Feng and Qin Hu wanted to kill Qin Li. This little beast’s words could infuriate someone to death!
“Me what? I said, if you don’t dare to kill me, then get out! Don’t embarrass yourself here!” Qin Li’s eyes suddenly shot out two cold, sharp glints. The followers behind Qin Yonggang all clenched their fists, glaring furiously at Qin Li. If their master gave the order, they would charge in and tear Qin Li to pieces.
Unfortunately, Qin Yonggang indeed did not dare to kill Qin Li—he didn’t even dare to harm him!
Because just this morning, the Shangguan Family and the Qin Family had simultaneously announced the engagement of their younger members. At the same time, the Qin Family formally declared its entry into the transport and tavern industries, having “bought” several businesses from the Shangguan Family.
Anyone with eyes could see there was something fishy about this, but so what? When the two powers of Huangsha City conversed, even the Fang Family collectively kept silent—who else had room to interrupt?
During this particularly sensitive period, how could Qin Yonggang dare to provoke Qin Li? Originally, he had come to curse this little beast and flaunt the authority of Fourth Master Qin, but instead of shaming others, he ended up shamed himself. The embarrassment was truly taken to the extreme.
Meanwhile, Ahu and the others behind Qin Li showed grateful expressions. In the Jianghu, loyalty was the most valued principle. Though Qin Li was young, his sense of responsibility made people regard him highly!
“Fine, fine! You little beast, I’ll remember today’s offense. You just wait—sooner or later, I’ll make you regret it!” Qin Yonggang gnashed his teeth as he spoke, then led his furious followers away in disgrace.
Qin Li shook his head nonchalantly, turned around, and said apologetically to Ahu, “Brother Hu, I’m really sorry for getting you involved. Qin Yonggang is narrow-minded and vengeful. I’m afraid in the future…”
“Brother Qin, don’t say that. What does ‘getting involved’ matter? If I were afraid, I wouldn’t have taught those shameless beasts a lesson today! At most, I just won’t mix in Huangsha City anymore!” Ahu laughed heartily, appearing not to mind at all.
Qin Li said calmly, “That won’t happen. Don’t worry, that day will never come! Huangsha City isn’t dominated solely by the Qin Family!”
Bu Yunyan watched Qin Li with great interest, finding the little guy more and more adorable. At thirteen or fourteen, if he were an ordinary child, even if mature, he couldn’t possibly be like a little monster! This guy clearly knew that Fourth Master Qin couldn’t do anything to him, which was why he dared to talk big, nearly making the other spit blood in anger. If one didn’t look at his face, they might even think he was a cunning old fox—never imagining he was just a child.
Over drinks, everyone had their own thoughts. They agreed to meet at the Hunter’s Guild in three days. Qin Li went out alone and headed toward the North District.
The evening wind blew, tousling Qin Li’s hair and stirring unrest in his heart. This world was so different from the one he came from before!
In his previous country, it was an era of martial arts decline, with well-established laws. In the face of a powerful state apparatus, no matter how high one’s martial arts were, they wouldn’t dare act recklessly!
But here in the Azure Dragon Kingdom, just taking Huangsha City as an example, everyone knew of the Three Great Families, yet many had no idea who the City Lord was!
Everything he had experienced since his rebirth indicated one thing: this was a world where true strength was revered!
A strange smile suddenly curled on Qin Li’s lips. Under the glow of the setting sun, his young, handsome face showed a touch of wicked charm. Patting the God-Level Combat Skill inside his chest, Qin Li did not turn his head as he sneered, “You two have been following me for so long—aren’t you tired?”
As soon as Qin Li finished speaking, two young men appeared behind him, one on the left and one on the right. The one on the left was about thirty years old, with a thin build and an icy expression. The one on the right was only about twenty-one or twenty-two; on a face that should have been handsome, there was a scar that ran diagonally across it, from the outer corner of his eyebrow to the corner of his mouth, giving a ferocious impression.
“Hehe, interesting. Earlier, Qin Hu said you were a waste, even had some nickname like Foundation Master. Now it seems he misjudged you. Tell us, how did you discover us?” The young man in his twenties grinned, the scar moving with his expression like a big centipede crawling on his face, making him look even more frightening.
Qin Li sneered inwardly. Did they really think his unblocked Ren and Du Meridians were just for show? Without a Combat Technique, did that mean he couldn’t beat two trash who hadn’t even reached the Mysterious Rank?
Without answering the young man’s question, Qin Li said calmly, “Speak—what is your purpose in following me?”
