Chapter 108: Truly a Black Name
Chapter 108: Truly a Black Name
“Bro, tell me, why did we come all the way here if not to explore and fight bosses?”
Clearly, not everyone in the Blood War Guild knew the purpose of this trip. Seeing that Blood War Seven Days and Bloodbattle Thousand Miles showed no reaction when passing an Area Elite, many members understood this expedition likely had another goal.
“I’m not too sure, but I heard Bloodbattle Eight Desolations brought back news that there’s a strange boss here. Killing it drops a special quest item,” the questioned player whispered back privately.
“A special quest item?” the questioning player was shocked.
Although he didn’t know exactly what quest item it was, for the Blood War Guild to mobilize half its members, the value of that quest item absolutely couldn’t be low!
“That’s just what I heard, I don’t know if it’s true,” another player quickly replied.
Meanwhile, at the front of the group, Bloodbattle Thousand Miles and Blood War Seven Days were also discussing the same matter.
Bloodbattle Thousand Miles had received confirmed information, but after reaching the second level of the mining area and experiencing the environment firsthand, he seriously doubted whether their target existed.
“Bloodbattle Eight Desolations brought the news; it can’t be wrong. According to him, this Water Elemental Boss isn’t made of pure water elements; its exact composition is unclear. But it’s certain it was once a very powerful boss. A long time ago, in a great war against humans, it was beaten half to death, sustaining massive injuries, and only then did it transform into its current form,” Blood War Seven Days had great confidence in Bloodbattle Eight Desolations’s information.
“This Water Elemental Boss is an ancient, powerful boss?” Bloodbattle Thousand Miles was startled.
“Yes, it once possessed great intelligence and power. But after suffering tremendous damage, it’s now only a bit stronger than a regular boss. Once we figure it out and exert our full strength to kill it, it will drop a quest item closely related to the Game World’s background,” Blood War Seven Days nodded, a sharp gleam in his eyes.
Currently, official information about the Genesis Game world’s background was scarce. Players could only make rough guesses based on the Three Major Cities and the existence of various races. The true Game World background remained very vague.
If they could receive a major quest related to the Game World’s background, the rewards would be extremely rich, and the Blood War Guild would gain untold benefits.
“Interesting!” Bloodbattle Thousand Miles also grew excited.
Boom! Boom!
But right then, the two Blood War Guild members walking at the very front suddenly turned into beams of white light and died amidst the sounds of trap explosions!
“It’s that Hunter!”
Blood War Seven Days’s face changed. His worst fear had come true.
“How dare he!” Bloodbattle Thousand Miles’s expression darkened.
This Hunter simply didn’t take them seriously. In his Black Name Status, instead of thinking about escape, he actually dared to come after them and kill Blood War Guild members!
But looking at the white fog around them, Bloodbattle Thousand Miles immediately felt furious again. With this fog, even though the Blood War Guild had many members, they couldn’t give chase. Now they had lost two members without even seeing their opponent.
Blood War Seven Days also sensed trouble. Earlier, recognizing Chen Mo as the one who ruined their plans, he hadn’t thought much and just wanted revenge first. But now it seemed that move was reckless. In this Undeveloped Area, surrounded by white fog, the situation was very unfavorable for them.
Especially since Blood War Seven Days also discovered that this Hunter had actually learned Area Attack Traps. He hadn’t heard of any Trap Hunter mastering area traps yet.
Of course, what terrified Blood War Seven Days was the damage from the Hunter’s two traps activating simultaneously, instantly killing two of their members.
Just how terrifying was this attack power?
“Summoners, send out your Pets to scout! The rest of the members, gather close! Don’t give the enemy any opening!” However, since they had already made a move, and the word ‘regret’ wasn’t in his dictionary, Blood War Seven Days immediately shouted.
The Blood War Guild members quickly tightened their formation. Two Summoners stepped forward, raised their Staves, and summoned a Goblin and a Fire Wolf.
The two summoned beasts moved forward, one in front of the other. Not far ahead, they indeed triggered three or four traps in succession nearby.
Blood War Seven Days’s face darkened slightly. He could tell this Hunter had at least four different Trap Skills.
He didn’t know, however, that Chen Mo, hiding in the shadows, was also grinding his teeth in frustration upon seeing the Summoners appear.
In a way, Summoners were the natural counters to Trap Hunters. The traps a Trap Hunter painstakingly laid could all be triggered one by one just by a Summoner’s Pet walking over. Unlike Pet-Specialized Hunters, Summoners could summon again immediately as long as their skill Cooldown Time was over; they didn’t feel the slightest bit of heartache if their Pets died.
Chen Mo was quite familiar with the Mining Area Second Floor. While the Blood War Guild was killing monsters and traveling, he had circled ahead and set traps, hoping to kill several of them at once. But those two Summoners in the Blood War Guild rendered his carefully laid traps useless.
“If traps can’t get you, I’ll kill you all one by one with my Hand Crossbow!” Chen Mo snorted coldly.
If they were outside, it would be unrealistic for Chen Mo to try to kill so many Blood War Guild members individually. But in this Undeveloped Area, he had a visual range advantage, just like at night.
The advantage wasn’t huge, but it was enough for Chen Mo to see the Blood War Guild members while they fell just short of seeing him.
Circling back to the rear of the Blood War Guild group, Chen Mo quietly advanced through the white fog, took aim at a lightly armored Archer, and fired a bolt.
A damage number of over 400 Health Points floated above the Archer’s head.
“He attacked! But I can’t see him!” a player next to the Archer shouted, his face changing dramatically.
Everyone who heard him also had their expressions shift.
They were all experienced experts. In thick white fog, a difference in vision range was an extremely fatal factor. If your vision was worse than the enemy’s, you were a target in their eyes, while the enemy remained hidden, making it impossible for you to counterattack.
That’s why all the major Guilds were trying to find equipment or items that increased visual range. Unfortunately, such items were far too rare.
“Charge over there!” Blood War Seven Days ordered.
This was the best response: get close to the enemy so they can’t attack freely. Once you closed the distance, the enemy’s vision advantage would lose its effectiveness.
But with Chen Mo’s speed, how could the Blood War Guild members possibly get close to him?
Chen Mo retreated while firing two more bolts in quick succession. The Archer player tried desperately to dodge but was directly killed by Chen Mo’s two shots.
“Those with low Health Points, fall back to the inner circle and hide! Those with high Defense, step forward and block the attacks!” Blood War Seven Days hurriedly issued another command.
This method wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t very effective against Chen Mo’s frightening attack power.
There were only four Knights with the strongest Defense. They couldn’t hide all the Blood War members behind them. Chen Mo deliberately avoided attacking them, specifically targeting members outside these four.
As long as it wasn’t a Shield Knight, each of Chen Mo’s bolts could deal damage that made the Blood War members’ faces change dramatically.
“Entered the Frenzy state!”
As he fought, Chen Mo suddenly felt his body lighten. This was the Frenzy state from his Frenzied Hand Crossbow.
Chen Mo immediately used the Frenzied Strike skill!
A Crossbow Bolt flew out heavily, striking a Shield Warrior.
The Shield Warrior’s Defense wasn’t weak, and he had high Health Points, but after taking a few hits from Chen Mo, his Health Points were already in a somewhat dangerous state.
Still feeling he could withstand two or three more attacks, the Shield Warrior didn’t retreat.
But then, a heavy Crossbow Bolt flew towards him. With that one bolt, a purple critical hit damage number floated above the Shield Warrior’s head, and then his Health Points instantly depleted!
“All ranged players, attack that guy’s position!”
In the blink of an eye, several people had already died. Blood War Seven Days shouted with a dark expression.
This quest was important. He never imagined they would suffer heavy casualties because of one player before even reaching the quest location.
Over ten attacks landed, but Chen Mo had long since left that position. The Blood War members’ attacks were a complete waste of time.
Relying solely on his vision advantage, Chen Mo would attack once from a position in the white fog, then immediately change location. The Blood War Guild Players fell one after another.
Although there were four Priest members in the group, Healing Skills had Cooldown Time limitations. For each attack Chen Mo made, two Priests needed to use their skills just to heal the target. If Chen Mo scored a critical hit, then all four had to heal together.
The result was four people healing one target, yet still unable to save the target’s life. Especially after one of the Priests was killed by Chen Mo, the Blood War Guild’s situation became even more precarious.
“Damn this white fog!” Bloodbattle Thousand Miles cursed in frustration.
If not for this fog, how could they only take hits, almost unable to fight back!
With ranged attacks posing no threat to Chen Mo, Blood War Seven Days finally couldn’t hold back and ordered all melee fighters to go catch Chen Mo.
Chen Mo certainly wouldn’t stay put. He still had his Camouflage Skill. Each time he used Camouflage, he could move to another side and quickly kill another Blood War Guild member.
In less than half an hour of this back-and-forth, the Blood War Guild’s twenty-plus members were reduced to fewer than half.
“Scatter and retreat!” Blood War Seven Days knew the situation was hopeless. In this white fog, the Blood War members were outmatched in every aspect by that Hunter. Staying together would only make them his targets.
By scattering and retreating, that Hunter could at most kill one or two of them. The rest would disappear into the fog; no matter how skilled the Hunter was, he wouldn’t be able to find them.
Since he was already enemies with the Blood War Guild, Chen Mo wanted to kill all of them. However, Blood War Seven Days’s tactic of scattering to retreat was indeed effective. Chen Mo only caught up with two minor characters and killed them, while Blood War Seven Days, Bloodbattle Thousand Miles, and the others vanished without a trace.
In the thick white fog, finding two people was impractical; his vision range wasn’t that large.
He still had some time left, so Chen Mo decided to go back and continue fighting the Area Elite. The Ore Giant Chieftain hadn’t disappeared yet.
As he walked, Chen Mo glanced at his Crime Value and couldn’t help but sigh.
This time, he was truly a Black Name.
He had killed nineteen people. Before killing five people, each kill added 1 point of Crime Value. At 5 Crime Value, you became a Red Name. After becoming a Red Name, each kill added 2 points of Crime Value. When Crime Value reached 50 points, the Player became a Black Name. In the Black Name Status, each kill added 3 points of Crime Value.
Chen Mo was killing people while in the Black Name Status, so each kill added 3 points of Crime Value. His Crime Value instantly reached 57 points. A true Black Name!
