Chapter 186: The System Was Too Biased

Liu Heming’s head still felt a bit dizzy. He barely managed to stand up and walk over to his daughter, feeling as though her small body was swaying back and forth.

The peregrine falcon held in Alex’s arms did not go easy on him—it pecked at him. However, there was some error in the falcon’s intended target; it missed by quite a bit.

Just as Liu Heming was about to speak, he felt a forceful push on his back, and he stumbled forward completely.

This fall was quite heavy. He had thought that once his daughter held the falcon, the task would be completed. Who would have guessed the other falcon held such a strong grudge and came at him like that?

Only then did the System’s task completion prompt come through. He turned his head to look: one peregrine falcon was being held in his daughter’s arms, while the other was now crouched on the roof of the house, staring down fiercely at the tiny humans below.

“Dad, does it hurt?” the little one asked, holding the falcon as she squatted down beside Liu Heming.

“It hurt a little just now, but not anymore. You need to keep an eye on them, or they might hurt someone else,” Liu Heming said, shaking his head.

That fall had really shaken him up. He was already unsteady on his feet, and this incident left him utterly defeated.

Selin twisted his body as he walked over, glanced down, then twisted again and moved aside, deciding it was better to keep a safe distance from this little one.

Liu Heming struggled to take off his bulletproof vest. His right shoulder had already swollen from the fall, and it hurt a little. The wound on his arm wasn’t too serious, just a scrape that broke the skin.

Although both he and his daughter were outside, the people inside the house still didn’t dare to come out. Even from a distance, they could feel the fierce glare of the falcon in Alex’s arms.

“Everyone, come out. They’ve worn themselves out after all this commotion. As long as you keep some distance and don’t make any threatening moves, it should be fine,” Liu Heming said to the people inside the house.

Since the System had acknowledged the task, it meant the two peregrine falcons had temporarily subdued their aggressive nature and wouldn’t bite people randomly. But if you provoked them, that was another story.

He had also noticed a minor issue with his Animal Affinity. Perhaps his affinity wasn’t high enough yet—unlike his daughter, who could charm every animal. So, to the peregrine falcons, his affinity might as well not exist; they still saw him as an enemy.

People gradually emerged and gathered around to watch the novelty. Liu Heming, meanwhile, ran upstairs to fetch the medicinal liquid and also prepared some chicken strips soaked in Small Lake Water for the two falcons. Even Selin loved it, so he figured the falcons would like it too.

He applied the medicinal liquid to Selin’s wounds. After treating him all over, Selin trotted off to the side.

“Look at how scared you are, yet you still dared to challenge them earlier,” Liu Heming said, eyeing Selin with annoyance.

When he first met Selin, he had seemed such a mighty and robust figure. But over time, his true colors showed—he was a coward, and an impulsive one at that.

“You two come here as well. I’ll apply some medicine to this peregrine falcon too,” Liu Heming said, beckoning to Alex.

The little one struggled a bit as she carried the falcon over to Liu Heming. The falcon still watched him warily, while the one on the roof flapped its wings and landed beside Liu Heming, as if warning him not to try anything funny.

“Look at how petty you two are. We started off on the wrong foot, but now we know each other. I’ll treat your wounds and then give you something delicious to eat. From now on, you two belong to our family. Don’t go causing trouble for our chickens and ducks—if you want to cause trouble, go bother someone else’s,” Liu Heming said as he applied medicine to the falcon in Alex’s arms.

Selin’s beak and claws weren’t harmless either; both falcons had suffered some injuries, though not as severe as Selin’s.

After tasting the delicious chicken strips, the two falcons became much friendlier—at the very least, their gazes weren’t as fierce anymore. Liu Heming really wanted to pet them like his daughter did, but as soon as he raised his hand, they tilted their heads and stared at him.

“Ungrateful little things. You take the food when it’s offered, you stay still when I treat your wounds, but you won’t even let me touch you,” Liu Heming muttered in frustration.

Taking advantage of everyone’s attention being on the two falcons, Liu Heming slipped into the warehouse. He still hadn’t used his Lucky Grand Draw.

The wheel spun and finally landed on the plant option. Liu Heming clenched his fist slightly in excitement, peered around to make sure no one was watching, and then selected “Claim.”

“Reward Item: Potato. Quantity: 100 kilograms.”

After the System’s words disappeared, a pile of fist-sized potatoes materialized on the ground in front of him.

Liu Heming felt frustrated. Potatoes? How could it be potatoes? Even if they were System-given potatoes, how powerful could they possibly be?

He thought this because the potatoes looked too ordinary. The first time, the System gave him a tiny sweet potato, but these potatoes looked so normal that he didn’t have much confidence in them.

“System, come out. Let’s have a chat,” Liu Heming called out in his mind after storing the potatoes.

“What do you want?” the System Sprite asked, watching him cautiously.

“Nothing much. Why are you so jumpy?” Liu Heming waved his hand dismissively.

“Tell me, wasn’t today’s task a bit ridiculous? Why can’t you assign proper tasks? It was so dangerous! I almost didn’t complete it. It’s only because I’m strong now that I managed. Otherwise, who knows what would’ve happened?”

The System Sprite curled its lip. “This was for Alex.”

“I knew it was your doing. Since you were already interfering, why not make the process simpler?” Liu Heming asked, annoyed.

“If you want to gain something, you have to give something. Alex couldn’t give anything, so you had to. If you completed it too easily, how could I give you a reward?” the System Sprite said, hands on its hips.

“Look at you. The System has already leveled up, and you know all tasks are semi-heuristic. If you want to do more tasks, why don’t you think about it more? Don’t you know I’m busy every day?”

“Busy? You’re busy with nothing. How could I dare to think randomly? Who knows what kind of task you’d assign? I’d love for you to just help me buy Xiangshui Town outright, but is that realistic?” Liu Heming retorted, curling his lip. He knew the System was too biased toward his daughter, and he, as the father, had to suffer for it.

The System Sprite grinned oddly. “I like people with ambition like you.”

After saying that, the System Sprite waved and vanished. Liu Heming immediately felt that something bad was about to happen.
