Chapter 180: The Little Alligator That Kept Losing But Still Fought Back
The next day, Liu Yi also arrived there, carrying two bags of Chili Pepper and Sichuan Pepper. However, when he saw Sasha also living there, he felt a bit confused. He really couldn’t figure out how this man and woman with their complicated past had ended up together.
“Liu Yi, thank you. Without your help, my parents’ visa wouldn’t have been processed so smoothly,” Liu Heming said gratefully after reintroducing his daughter to Liu Yi.
“I happened to have some things to take care of back home, so I helped with the paperwork while I was there. When do you plan for them to come?” Liu Yi asked with a smile.
“Probably after New Year’s Day. They need to settle things at home and will return after the Spring Festival. How about you? Will you celebrate the Spring Festival here or go back home?” Liu Heming pulled Liu Yi to sit on the nearby sofa.
“The United States doesn’t really have long holidays for the Spring Festival. If nothing unexpected happens, I’ll probably spend it here again. It’s been years since I’ve properly celebrated the Spring Festival,” Liu Yi said with a bitter smile.
“Alright then, this year’s Spring Festival, come over to my place. We can celebrate together and make it more lively,” Liu Heming waved his hand and immediately extended the invitation.
“OK, as long as I can arrange the time, it’s no problem,” Liu Yi replied with a smile.
“But I really didn’t expect such big changes here in such a short time. If I didn’t know you, I might not even believe it.”
“Last time I saw you and Alex in the video, I rewatched it many times, afraid I had mistaken something. You even made Jianbing Guozi in such creative ways—that’s amazing. By the way, today I definitely want to have a proper meal of Boiled Fish in Chili Oil, extra spicy and numbing.”
“Hahaha, don’t worry. We might lack many things here, but we definitely don’t lack Boiled Fish in Chili Oil. There are plenty of fish in that lake. Some Tourists will also come today. Since you’re here, you can help George double-check the procedures to make sure we didn’t miss anything,” Liu Heming said, patting his shoulder.
“Let me make this clear first: I don’t have money to pay you, but I’ve got plenty of fish and meat. I even saved a set of Fruit Sweet Potato especially for you. If you eat one a day, it’ll last you a whole year.”
“That’s too valuable, I hardly dare accept it,” Liu Yi quickly responded.
Before coming, he had gathered some information to see how Liu Heming was doing now. Once he looked into it carefully, he was shocked—the incredibly expensive Sweet Potato that had been all over the news a while ago actually came from here. A set of Sweet Potato costing four thousand US Dollar made him think twice, considering his current income.
Lawyers in the United States are considered high earners, but it depends on your performance. For him, not being a partner, his annual earnings are quite limited.
“Alex, call all the Bear Kids over. Let them meet Uncle Liu Yi too,” Liu Heming waved at her and then called out to Alex.
The little one cheerfully agreed and scampered outside.
“Is that a Baby Alligator Alex is leading? Is that safe?” Liu Yi asked with concern, watching the Baby Alligator being dragged along, still tumbling as it moved.
“It’s fine. Just like a little kid, it needs to learn the hard way. We can’t leave it untethered—it’s too mischievous. It either provokes Square Kitten or tries to catch chickens on its own. It gets bullied by them often,” Liu Heming said with a wry smile.
The Baby Alligator could be called the “most pitiful” little animal on the Ranch, but it had brought it upon itself. At first, Liu Heming thought it was unfair to keep it tied up, so he set it free. But this Baby Alligator’s personality was completely different from other alligators.
Other alligators are usually lazy, but this one is active and loves to stir up trouble.
It first challenged Square Kitten and got slapped so hard it rolled on the ground. Then it tried to challenge the Bear Kids, only to be treated like a toy by them. After two days of being tossed around, it finally wisened up a bit and set its sights on Selin instead. But that didn’t go well either—Selin grabbed it and flew it around in the sky twice, and it never dared get too close to Selin again.
Liu Heming thought it would finally calm down after that, but then it switched its target to the chickens, ducks, and geese. Probably thinking they weren’t too big and not as agile as Square Kitten, it figured they’d be easier to pick on.
But were their hard beaks just for show? They ended up chasing it all over the yard. The ducks and geese pecking at it wasn’t too bad, but after the chickens got a few pecks in, its skin was even injured. But this Baby Alligator was the type that kept fighting even after repeated losses. Now, aside from Selin whom it dared not provoke, it would still act up whenever it got the chance.
Even though Alex still dragged it around everywhere, its life was much better than before—it only occasionally got swatted by Square Kitten and the others.
When Alex ran out, she didn’t just bring back Xiong Da and Xiong Er; Mother Bear and Selin came too. It had been many days, and Mother Bear still wasn’t entirely at ease about them. Selin, on the other hand, was dragged along by the little girl—otherwise, he would have preferred to wander off into the Forest.
Even though he had seen many videos of Little Bears interacting with humans, and the Bear Cubs today were very enthusiastic and even hugged him, he still felt that the Big Bear watching from the side was eyeing him very warily.
“Don’t worry, the Big Bear is their Mom. She looks fierce, but she’s actually very gentle. Besides, with plenty of food now, even if little chicks or ducklings wander near her, she won’t even think about bothering them,” Liu Heming explained with a smile.
“Jack, have some Sweet Potato and Peach,” Nina said, bringing over a plate of washed Sweet Potato and Peach. After placing them on the coffee table, she naturally sat down beside Liu Heming and just as naturally linked her arm with his.
Liu Yi glanced at the Sweet Potato, then at Liu Heming and Nina, and then at Sasha, who had been quietly reading nearby, before shaking his head. The relationships were too complicated. Even though he was a Lawyer, it seemed hard to unravel.
“Liu Yi, just ignore her. She might be older, but her intelligence is about the same as Alex’s,” Liu Heming said, glaring at Nina with some helplessness.
He had tried all sorts of ways to deal with Nina, but she, like the Baby Alligator, seemed to have no shame. Sasha too—she usually just watched the commotion from the sidelines without ever voicing an opinion, letting her friend mess around as she pleased.
While they were chatting, Rock and Lewis arrived with a group of people—all newcomers for the day. However, Liu Heming also recognized some familiar faces from yesterday and could only sigh at how they really weren’t short on money—fifty US Dollar per meal for Boiled Fish in Chili Oil, and with Asia fish species at that, yet they still hadn’t had enough.
