Chapter 160: Visiting After Hearing the Fame

“Three eggs, two portions of Soy-Braised Beef, extra scallions, and a bit more Cilantro. Could you also add a little more Chili Pepper?”

Hearing this seemingly professional order, Liu Heming looked up and smiled. It was the young man who had grinned foolishly at him this afternoon.

“You didn’t wait until now just to have a second serving, did you?” Liu Heming asked with a laugh.

“Yes, I still think the Soy-Braised Beef is really delicious. But I really can’t eat any more than this. The Chili Pepper is also very fragrant.” The young man nodded vigorously.

“Let me take off one egg. Too many eggs can overpower the beef’s aroma.” Liu Heming made a small adjustment for him and added a little more shredded Carrots while preparing the order.

The young man took a big bite of the Pancake as soon as he got it and gave Liu Heming a thumbs-up.

“It’s quite late. Do you live in a nearby town?” Liu Heming asked casually, seeing the young man standing nearby eating.

“No, no, I don’t live around here. Actually, today I will stay here. My home is in California.” The young man spoke between bites.

It seemed he really liked spicy food. He was clearly sweating from the spice but kept eating heartily.

Liu Heming was somewhat speechless. California wasn’t exactly close. This young man had actually stayed overnight just for a bite to eat, making Liu Heming feel even more that the gap between him and the younger generation was rather deep.

By evening, things finally eased up a bit. This wave of customers were mostly truck drivers. Although they were quite curious about the Pancake’s taste, they usually just bought one set to try first, then ordered two or three Rougamo as their main meal.

Liu Heming pounded his old lower back with his right hand. It was truly exhausting; standing all day was really tiring. He wondered if he could get a high stool to sit on while making Pancakes, to make things a little easier. Actually, it wasn’t just tiring; he was also a bit hungry. He hadn’t even eaten dinner. Customers kept coming, one wave after another.

Seeing that there were fewer customers now, Liu Heming paused temporarily. He needed to make some food for everyone too. They had been selling Pancakes and Rougamo all day; even the most delicious food could make you feel full just from the smell. So he took two steaks from the refrigerator and started chopping them nearby. He decided to make some Dumplings.

“Dexter, make a little more. We want some too. It’s been a long time since we’ve tasted the Dumplings you make,” Lewis said as he approached.

“Then bring another steak and peel the onions over there,” Liu Heming replied with a smile.

It wasn’t just him who was tired; everyone was exhausted. Lewis had even assigned a server to help sell Rougamo. Now even his wife, Daisy, had to help attend to customers.

Little Alex hadn’t taken a nap and had just dozed off for a while in the back rest area. Now she was full of energy again, leading the two Bear Cubs over to Liu Heming.

“You play with them nearby for a while, and then Dad will make Dumplings for you,” Liu Heming said to the little one.

“Yes, Bear Bear is hungry too. They’ve already eaten several Carrots,” the little girl said clearly, nodding.

“There’ll be some for them too. Oh, and call Mom. Tell them to eat at home first. We’ll be back later today,” Liu Heming added.

The little girl nodded happily. She loved it when Dad gave her tasks.

After preparing the meat filling, Liu Heming started kneading the dough. While he was working, he noticed the light dim slightly. He looked up and saw the same young man again, this time holding a Camera and filming him.

“Sir, could I try the food you’re making now? I can buy it,” the young man said with a smile.

“No need to buy. I’ll give you some later. You just ate such a big Pancake; I’m afraid you might upset your stomach,” Liu Heming said, shaking his head.

“OK, thank you. I’ve imagined what you might be like countless times in my mind, and you certainly didn’t disappoint,” the young man said excitedly, nodding.

“What do you mean? Do you know me?” Liu Heming asked curiously.

“I didn’t before, but I do now. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Rock, Rock Nelson. Do you know who I am now?” the young man asked with eager anticipation.

“Rock Nelson? Let me think… Oh, I remember. You’re the young man who bought my Sweet Potatoes,” Liu Heming repeated, then suddenly recalled.

“Yes, that’s me. I came here specially this time. I had a feeling that the Pancakes here must have some connection to the Sweet Potatoes, and I was right,” Rock said happily.

Liu Heming didn’t know what to say. He had no idea how the young man had figured out there was a link between the Sweet Potatoes and the Pancakes.

Chatting idly with the young man, Liu Heming didn’t stop working, quickly making one small Dumpling after another. Once all were made, he started boiling them in the pot. Then he relieved Amelia and the other two, letting them eat first.

“Wow, this tastes great too. Why isn’t it on the menu?” Rock asked curiously after eating one Dumpling.

“It used to be, but sales were average, so Dexter decided to start selling Pancakes instead,” Lewis said, eating a Dumpling from his big bowl.

“I see. But why do I feel like these Dumplings taste different from the ones I’ve had in Chinese Restaurants before?” the young man nodded, then asked curiously again.

“That’s because, to suit local tastes here, many dishes have changed a lot in ingredients and combinations. Even the sauce for my Pancakes has been adjusted. If you find the Dumplings a bit greasy, you can add some vinegar. But just a little, or I’m afraid you might not like it,” Liu Heming explained with a smile.

“Mr. Dexter, will you introduce any new foods tomorrow?” the young man asked, curious as ever.

“We’re already quite busy with what we have now. Where would we find time to make new things?” Liu Heming said with a wry smile.

“But since you were the first buyer of my Sweet Potatoes, I’ll invite you to my Ranch for lunch tomorrow. You can try some other dishes.”

Hearing this, the young man was overjoyed. He picked up his spoon and ate the Dumplings and soup even more happily.

Liu Heming felt a bit envious of his appetite. His second serving of Jianbing Guozi was quite large too. He really didn’t know how such a slim build could eat so much.

Then he felt a bit worried. It seemed he would have to persist here for a few more days. Otherwise, Amelia and the others might truly be overwhelmed.
