Chapter 139: Crazy for Money?

Janet still thought Liu Heming was a bit crazy, or maybe just crazy for money. However, these sweet potatoes belonged to Liu Heming himself, and they were the only ones available so far. There was really no way to interfere with how much he wanted to sell them for.

Then she watched as Liu Heming took out these sweet potatoes and started taking pictures of them. Full-body shots, cut-open shots, multiple angles and perspectives, and even how they looked after being juiced.

After finishing this, Liu Heming listed his newly renamed Fruit Sweet Potato online, attaching the inspection documents from the Department of Agriculture. Not only did he set a high price of four thousand dollars per set, with a quantity of 30 sets, but he also didn’t offer free shipping.

Once all of that was done, it was already noon. Liu Heming hummed a little tune and started preparing today’s lunch.

Lately, they had been eating too much rich and heavy food, so it was time to cleanse their systems. The main dish was Dough Drop Soup, accompanied by Vegetable Salad.

Janet was quite unconvinced about Liu Heming pricing the sweet potatoes so high. But when she saw his skill in making Dough Drop Soup, she had to give him a thumbs-up.

With such a large basin of flour, Liu Heming added water while stirring, and soon uniform little dough drops formed. He poured them into the pot with a clatter, gave it a stir, and then added the second and third batches.

He turned up the heat a bit, and his spoon kept stirring in the large pot. Then he ladled it into a nearby basin, and it was done.

They didn’t even go inside to eat. Right under the simple shed Liu Heming had set up by the stove, they drank the Dough Drop Soup and enjoyed the gentle breeze. It was very comfortable.

“Sasha, I’m really envious of you,” Janet said to Sasha after finishing two bowls in a row.

This made Sasha feel quite awkward. It wasn’t something she could explain, even though Janet was a very good friend of hers.

“Actually, it’s not a big deal. I just really enjoy delicious food, so I usually spend more time studying it. Unlike you all, who have your own careers and don’t have much free time to think about these things,” Liu Heming said with a smile.

“Yeah, Dad’s cooking is Alex’s favorite. The Little Bears like it too, the Little Kittens like it, and Selin likes it too,” Alex chimed in, rooting for Liu Heming.

“Ding dong.”

A short notification sound came from the computer Liu Heming had placed nearby, startling everyone. Liu Heming eagerly opened the computer.

After reading the message on the screen, Liu Heming helplessly rubbed his nose.

He had thought someone had actually bought his Fruit Sweet Potatoes, but it was just a comment. The guy was probably shocked by the price and left an unfriendly comment, calling him crazy.

“Hmph, I’ll only sell them for three days. If they don’t sell, I’ll raise the price,” Liu Heming said angrily before closing the laptop.

“Dexter, I really think you should consider the market price a bit,” Janet said hesitantly.

“It’s fine. There will always be people who recognize their value. I’m serious—I’ll only sell a few for the next couple of years. Once I have enough funds, I won’t sell them at any price,” Liu Heming said with a smile.

“In the future, my ranch will definitely produce more high-quality products, covering a wide range of agricultural and livestock items. I’ll always stick to the principle of selling high-quality goods at high prices. This is just a small experiment for now.”

Janet thought for a moment and then nodded.

On this matter, she really couldn’t say anything more. There was no need for her to worry too much about it—it wasn’t her business anyway.

Compared to the sweet potatoes, what she cared about most was the Small Lake. She instinctively felt that the high beneficial components in these sweet potatoes might be related to the local groundwater system. The water in this Small Lake was even better than the best bottled water sold on the market.

During the meal, a few more comments came in, but they all said pretty much the same thing. Some thought Liu Heming should go to the Hospital for treatment, while others were just watching. No one actually bought any.

Later, Liu Heming stopped paying attention and simply shut down the computer.

He felt a bit regretful, thinking he should have set the price a thousand dollars lower. He had been too impulsive earlier. But since Sasha and Janet were both there, he felt too embarrassed to change the price now.

“Why are you looking at me like that?” Liu Heming asked Sasha somewhat gloomily after seeing Janet off.

“I’m curious. You clearly need money, but instead of asking me for help, you set such a high price for those sweet potatoes,” Sasha said, looking at him.

“Those sweet potatoes are really great. Maybe they’re not worth four thousand dollars, but they could definitely fetch a few hundred. Yet you didn’t hesitate to give a set to Janet.”

“I always feel like you’re very contradictory. It seems like you care about money, but then again, it seems like you don’t. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have given that Medicinal Liquid to Alfred.”

Liu Heming scratched his head awkwardly. “Actually, I do like money, but some situations require specific analysis.”

“Alfred and Janet are both my friends, so I’m willing to be generous. Just like with George and the others, I can supply water from my ranch to them for free.”

“By the way, later, take two sets of sweet potatoes and give them to your parents. Robin, you too, take two sets for your parents. These sweet potatoes of mine are really good for your health.”

He didn’t want to discuss this topic too much with Sasha. It wasn’t that he was particularly generous—it was just that it involved the System.

With the System around, his ranch would surely have many good things in the future. For him now, making money wasn’t really a big problem; all he needed was time.

Since he would be able to earn money sooner or later, he intended to take care of the people he knew well. It wasn’t easy for him to make it here on his own. As the saying goes, at home, you rely on your parents; away from home, you rely on friends. He had no resources or connections here, so he had to build them up slowly.

The reason he only listed 30 sets was because, aside from keeping some for the family to eat, he also planned to give some to George and the others. He wouldn’t give away full sets—he couldn’t afford that—but letting everyone have a taste was doable.

So Sasha might think he was contradictory, but it was really a matter of how close their relationships were. If it were outsiders, he would firmly stick to four thousand dollars per set. So what if they didn’t sell? He could just eat them for fun.

Once the ranch’s planting efforts were fully underway next year, the money would come rolling in like Panda. Even now, with the additional income from the Restaurant, after deducting Amelia’s salary and Lewis’s commission, he could still earn several thousand dollars each month.

When it came to small amounts of money, he really didn’t need to worry now. As for large sums, worrying wouldn’t help anyway—the gap was just too big.
