Chapter 118: Accepting the Interview
Chapter 118: Accepting the Interview
The small protest was still going on, though everyone knew the effect it could achieve was almost zero.
To everyone’s slight relief, as they were about to wrap up in the evening, a news van actually arrived. Seeing this vehicle, George became as excited as if he had taken a stimulant, instantly looking twenty or thirty years younger.
Mainly, it was because of the large “ABC” logo printed on the news van, which showed that it belonged to ABC Television, a very big TV station.
Being able to attract the attention of such a major TV station surprised Liu Heming a bit, but he was also happy for George. George’s efforts had finally paid off somewhat. Perhaps through ABC’s report, it could draw the attention of caring people in society, and then have some influence on the Montana government’s decisions.
The beginning of the whole event was quite normal. George, full of righteous indignation, accepted the interview from the reporter, while Liu Heming sat in the back with his daughter and the Bear Kids, acting as spectators.
However, the development of the situation still took everyone by surprise, leaving Liu Heming speechless with a bitter smile.
He noticed that while listening to George’s speech, the reporter kept glancing in his direction. At first, he thought she was just curious about the Bear Cubs, but when he saw her finish interviewing George and stride straight toward him, he realized it was probably these two Bear Cubs that had attracted the news van.
“Hello, sir. I am Judy, a reporter from ABC Television. May I interview these two very special protesters?” Judy came up to Liu Heming and asked with a smile.
Just as Liu Heming had guessed, the reason Judy came here to interview was indeed because she was attracted by these two little bears. She had been conducting interviews somewhere else, and during a break, she saw children at a nearby table watching a video of Liu Heming eating with the Bear Kids.
As a professional journalist, she immediately recognized the news value in this. She then tracked down the general location and drove over with her camera crew in the news van.
It was only after arriving that she learned about the protest activity. However, that wasn’t very important to her. Even if she reported on it, not many people would be interested. How could it compare to reporting on these two adorable little bears to attract viewers’ attention?
“Judy, hello. My name is Dexter. Although I know your main target is them, I also hope that when you report, you can mention our protest activity, because we are protecting our homeland.” Liu Heming nodded and said.
George, who was listening nearby, gave him a thumbs-up. He wasn’t foolish; he knew very well that Judy’s main target was the bears, not him. But even if you knew, what could you do? After the interview, there was no guarantee it would be aired. Now that Liu Heming had said this, Judy would at least mention it when producing the report.
“Mr. Dexter, I’m really curious, why are these two Bear Cubs so well-behaved? And I also noticed that it seems many people know them.” After saying this, Judy placed the microphone on the table and sat down directly.
Her posture made it clear that she intended to conduct a thorough interview today. If the interview went well, Liu Heming’s small request could also be considered.
“They have been living with me since they were very young. When I found them, I didn’t know how long it had been since they had eaten. Don’t be fooled by their chubby, ball-like appearance now; back then, they were pitifully thin.” Liu Heming said with a smile.
“After I brought them back, it was George, the Town Mayor you just interviewed, who helped me figure things out. He contacted Jenny and Bill from the Wildlife Management Bureau, and with their help, we managed to save them.”
“Many outsiders or younger people might not know, but Xiangshui Town used to be called Bear Town. It was because many bears lived in the forests here and coexisted harmoniously with the residents of Xiangshui Town. Older folks around here have all experienced those wonderful times.”
“However, in recent years, the weather conditions have become increasingly harsh, causing the number of wild animals here to decrease significantly. These two Bear Cubs are also the only ones found in recent years.”
“Their current good behavior might be due to some genetic factors, or perhaps in their perception, even though we humans look different, they see themselves as part of the human family.”
After saying this, Liu Heming didn’t plan to say more. It was his first time being interviewed in his life, and he felt a little nervous. But George, seeing him stop again, kept winking at him urgently.
“Although the natural conditions in Xiangshui Town are not very good now, this year’s rainfall has been somewhat adequate. We are not meteorologists and don’t know if this is a sign that the weather here is returning to normal, but we hope the State Government will value the opinions of us residents of Xiangshui Town.” Liu Heming said, forcing himself to continue.
“Why? Is there some other reason? If the Land here is sold as a package, wouldn’t it be better for your future lives?” Judy asked curiously.
“Actually, for the regular residents of Xiangshui Town, this might be a good thing. But what about the invisible residents like the Bear Cubs? If this area is invested in and developed, even if the climate and environment here recover, would these wild animals still choose to come back and live here?” Liu Heming thought for a moment and said.
His brain was working at high speed, afraid that anything he said might provoke the people in charge of the Montana State Government.
While he was thinking about what to say, the Bear Kids beside him became fascinated by the microphone on the table. Xiong Da’s little bear eyes glanced around, thinking no one was paying attention to him, then leaned forward, stretching out his bear paw, wanting to grab the microphone and examine it.
“You need to be good. Dad is busy; you can’t cause trouble.” Alex lightly patted Xiong Da’s outstretched paw, her little face very serious.
Being scolded by the little boss, Xiong Da immediately corrected his mistake, sitting back properly and even placing his two bear paws behind his back.
Alex took out a Tomato from the side and asked Liu Heming to break it. After receiving the broken Tomato, she looked at it; one piece was slightly bigger, so the little one took a bite from it.
Judy was curious, not knowing what the little girl was going to do.
Then she saw the little girl distribute the broken Tomato, which she had “fairly” adjusted, to the Bear Kids. Watching the Bear Kids eat so heartily, the little girl also smacked her lips, looking tempted.
At that moment, Judy understood what was going on. She was completely charmed by Alex’s adorable little action.
