Chapter 109: Miracle

Charming Girl was still struggling on the sling, and the struggling was getting worse.

“Jenny, what if we remove the plaster cast from its leg? Do you think it would make it feel better?” Liu Heming asked Jenny.

“Maybe it would help. The cast has been on for quite a while,” Jenny thought for a moment and nodded.

This was the only option they had now. Liu Heming held Charming Girl’s head while Jenny worked on removing the plaster cast from its leg.

It was a delicate task. If she moved too roughly, she could easily hit Charming Girl’s wound. The injury had been very serious.

Charming Girl was very well-behaved. It did not move at all during the entire process of removing the cast. It just buried its head in Liu Heming’s chest, which was completely different from its earlier restless behavior.

“You are such a good girl. We are taking off the cast now so your wound can get some air. That should make you feel better,” Liu Heming whispered into Charming Girl’s ear.

“Jenny, are you done?” Liu Heming asked when he did not hear any movement behind him after a while.

“Um… Dexter, hold on a bit longer. I need to check its wound. It will be quick,” Jenny said, then ran to her car to get the small X-ray machine.

“That’s good. At least we can see how well it has healed. Maybe we can show the X-ray to it later—perhaps that will calm it down,” Liu Heming joked.

Jenny did not have time to respond. After taking the X-ray, she went back to her car to develop it.

“Dad, is Charming Girl in a lot of pain?” Alex crouched nearby, gently stroking the scar on Charming Girl’s leg with her small hand.

“It probably doesn’t hurt much now. Once it’s fully healed, it will be able to play with you,” Liu Heming said with a smile.

He was a little puzzled. Earlier, he had glanced at Charming Girl’s wound, and it seemed to be healing very well. He didn’t know how fast animals heal, but he knew that for humans, healing this quickly would be very difficult.

“Dexter, Dexter! We must have witnessed a miracle!” While the two were talking, Jenny rushed in, her face full of excitement.

“Dexter, look! The fracture in Charming Girl’s leg bone has healed,” Jenny said, holding up the newly developed X-ray.

Liu Heming looked at the X-ray. It showed Charming Girl’s leg bone, and the part that had been cracked was now joined together, though there was a slanted line where the break had been. He couldn’t understand it and didn’t know if this meant it was fully healed. But if it was healed, wasn’t it too fast? What about the saying that it takes a hundred days to heal a broken bone?

“Jenny, does this mean we can try letting Charming Girl walk on its own?” Liu Heming asked.

Jenny nodded. “It needs proper recovery. Otherwise, even if it heals completely, it might not be able to run freely.”

“In all my years, this is the first time I’ve seen a wound heal so quickly. If I hadn’t put the cast on it myself and removed it myself, I would think you used some kind of magic.”

“Alright, you can lower its leg now and let it try to put weight on it. Animals are smart, so don’t worry about Charming Girl. I think it was so restless today because it felt its leg was ready to move.”

Liu Heming wanted to untie the sling from Charming Girl, but he was still a bit worried. Then Charming Girl rubbed its head against his chest again.

He slowly untied the ropes holding Charming Girl. Charming Girl was indeed clever—it didn’t put the injured leg directly on the ground but lifted it slightly.

“Go, Charming Girl!” Alex waved her little fist, cheering for it.

Charming Girl gently placed its raised leg on the ground. As soon as it touched the ground, it quickly lifted it again. It repeated this a few times.

The Bear Kids found this amusing and started tapping their paws on the ground, imitating Charming Girl.

“See? Charming Girl is such a smart girl,” Jenny said with a smile.

“Alright, Charming Girl, try to take a few steps,” Liu Heming also encouraged it.

But as soon as he said it, he laughed at himself. It sounded like he was trying to trick someone, just like that Uncle Zhao in the comedy skit.

Charming Girl placed its injured leg on the ground and took a step forward. Although it was still limping, it was a successful step. It shook its head, snorted, and then turned to rub against Liu Heming again.

“Haha, go outside and enjoy the sunshine,” Liu Heming said happily, patting Charming Girl.

His heart was filled with joy over Charming Girl’s recovery. He had completely forgotten about the troubles in Xiangshui Town.

When he first brought Charming Girl back, it had been in such a pitiful state. He never expected it to recover so quickly. Just as Jenny said, it truly was a miracle.

“Oh my, has Charming Girl recovered?” Sasha, who had just arrived at the warehouse, asked in surprise.

“Yes, it has improved a lot. Here’s the X-ray of its leg wound. Take a look,” Liu Heming said cheerfully, walking over to Sasha and handing her the X-ray.

Sasha held the X-ray up to the light and studied it for a while. “I never thought Charming Girl’s body would heal so well. The bone has mended beautifully. Once it gets through the recovery period, it will be able to run again.”

“But we need to be extra careful during this recovery phase. Try not to let it get startled. If it exerts too much force, the newly healed bone could crack again.”

“Are you a doctor?” Jenny asked curiously, impressed by Sasha’s detailed explanation.

“I suppose you could say I’m a doctor, but I mostly do research, not clinical medicine,” Sasha replied after a moment’s thought.

Liu Heming didn’t pay attention to their conversation. Sasha’s words confirmed that Charming Girl was recovering well. He followed Charming Girl as it walked out of the warehouse.

The distance wasn’t long, but Charming Girl found it difficult to walk. Still, it managed to make it outside on its own.

Bathed in the long-missed sunlight, Charming Girl felt an urge to run. Luckily, Liu Heming noticed in time and ran over to wrap his arms around its neck.

“Enjoy the sunshine for now. There will be plenty of time for you to run freely later,” Liu Heming said, scratching Charming Girl’s face.
