Chapter 87: Nina’s Identity
Chapter 87: Nina’s Identity
Overall, Liu Heming’s life now was quite full and happy.
After getting up in the morning and seeing that his daughter was still sleeping soundly, he quietly got out of bed and started his daily cleaning routine. Then, he went to the Vegetable Garden to pick some vegetables.
Many vegetables in the Vegetable Garden had already ripened. Whether it was Cucumbers or Green Beans, many matured every day. If he didn’t pick them in time, they would become tough and taste worse.
This was a problem he needed to solve next. He had planted a lot of Green Beans and Cucumbers originally, and it was hard for him alone to use them all. Whether more or less, he had to find a way to sell these vegetables, or they would all go to waste.
When he returned to the house, he saw Sasha, as usual, preparing breakfast in the Kitchen. This made his heart feel a little excited. It meant Sasha had forgiven him for that rude stare, which was a good sign.
During breakfast, Liu Heming ate very quickly and didn’t even notice that his daughter seemed somewhat absent-minded while eating today. His mind was occupied with how to make Jar-Braised Pork and Cabbage Rolls.
It wasn’t something you could just throw together casually. If done that way, it wouldn’t have the right taste at all.
“I’m going to treat everyone to two even better dishes for lunch today. I guarantee you’ve never had them before,” Liu Heming said after thinking it over a few times in his head.
“Dad, can I help today too?” Alex asked sweetly, her attention clearly not on breakfast at all.
“Of course you can help. From now on, whenever Dad makes delicious food, you’ll be my little helper,” Liu Heming replied with a smile and a nod.
Hearing Liu Heming’s words, the little one beamed with happiness.
On the other side, Sasha frowned slightly because she noticed something: recently, her figure seemed to have gained a little weight. Although she hadn’t weighed herself, she estimated she had put on over a pound. It seemed that if she wanted to make it through this month, she would have to do some proper exercise.
If she hadn’t tasted so many new and interesting foods before, she might not have had this concern. But now it was different. She knew these dishes tasted amazing, and how could she resist eating them? She couldn’t just let them enjoy delicious food at the table while she only ate vegetable salad.
After breakfast, while Liu Heming was searching all over the Kitchen for jars, he heard the sound of an engine outside. Looking out the window, he felt a headache coming on. The visitor was none other than Sasha’s best friend, Nina.
If she were a normal best friend and a beautiful woman, Liu Heming would have welcomed her with open arms. But this Nina was a bit crazy, and his own “temper” had been a little high lately. Who knew what kind of things this girl would do to torment him?
If he discussed it with Sasha, they would probably reach the same conclusion: wanting to eat but not being able to is the loneliest feeling.
Liu Heming didn’t dare go out to greet Nina. Their first meeting had already scared him. To complete his tasks smoothly and avoid distractions, he thought it was better to lay low.
However, things didn’t go as planned. While he was avoiding Nina, she sought him out herself. First, she hugged and kissed Alex repeatedly, then she walked straight over to him and gave him a sweet, tight hug.
It had to be said, Nina’s figure was really impressive and very alluring. With summer clothes being lighter, Liu Heming definitely felt it. The only side effect was that Liu Heming couldn’t stand up straight.
“Dexter, aren’t you happy to have me as a guest?” Nina asked teasingly, looking at Liu Heming’s awkward posture.
“Welcome, very welcome. Why don’t you chat with Sasha? I’ll prepare lunch for you,” Liu Heming said, very embarrassed.
He was genuinely a bit afraid of Nina. This girl was too enthusiastic, too outgoing, and wore too little clothing. He really didn’t know if he could control himself if Nina stayed with them for a few days.
Nina smiled triumphantly, winked at him, licked her lips before turning away, and then went arm in arm with Sasha to the Living Room to chat.
“Dexter, just hang in there. Actually, Nina isn’t usually like this,” Robin said, coming over to Liu Heming and offering a rare word of comfort.
Liu Heming nodded with a bitter smile. He figured it was probably because of his identity that he attracted Nina’s teasing. After all, he had blocked Sasha’s path to marriage, and he guessed her fiancé must have been some kind of privileged second-generation or talented individual. It wasn’t their fault; he was the troublesome third party here.
“Robin, I keep forgetting to ask, what exactly does Nina do for work? She’s not a law enforcement officer, is she?” Liu Heming asked curiously.
Robin looked at him and nodded very seriously. “She is indeed in law enforcement, and not just local police. She’s an FBI agent.”
Liu Heming was so surprised he clicked his tongue. He really couldn’t tell that Nina was that capable. He wondered if she had used connections to get her position.
As if reading Liu Heming’s thoughts, Robin continued, “She graduated second in her class of trainees back then, and now she already leads her own team.”
“Robin, you’re not kidding me, are you? She can lead her own team?” Liu Heming was truly astonished this time.
Americans were just like people from China; when they had free time, they often got together to chat and joke around. Liu Heming wasn’t very familiar with many aspects of life in the United States, so when he chatted with everyone, he asked all sorts of questions. After all, most of his understanding of the U.S. came from movies and TV shows.
He had learned that in law enforcement teams, someone who could lead a team absolutely had special talents and contributions. It wasn’t that there were no cases of people getting positions through connections, but relatively speaking, it wasn’t very common. Even if you were placed there for experience, you still needed some real ability.
Otherwise, if things went wrong here, your reputation would be ruined, and you’d pretty much have no place in the entire industry. Those who helped arrange it would also be implicated.
If Nina truly led her own team, then this girl was really not simple. She definitely wasn’t like how she acted when she was around him. He needed to be more wary of her.
What if this girl decided to take righteous action to help her best friend Sasha and eliminate him? If that happened, he probably wouldn’t even have a place to cry.
Here, he was in an unfamiliar place with no connections. If he went missing, at most George and the others might wonder about him. He really needed to be more alert and not fall victim to Nina’s underhanded schemes.
